So DC has announced their big upcoming followup to "52" with "Countdown" - another weekly series! My immediate reaction was "no. No more of this weekly nonsense.", but "52" has consistently been my first read of the week and the weekly format is like crack to this comics fan.

Newsarama has an interview about it here

It remains to be seen who's going to be spotlighted in the book, so I imagine my decision will be based chiefly on that. My biggest reason for buying "52" was the Question and since he's been gone, my enthusiasm for the book has waned.

Anyone else excited by DC's plans to continue with a weekly?

Not excited but I'll probably jump on. At least DC has proven they can keep up a weekly, consistently, and keep the story/art good. Unlike Marvel and its Civil Flaw.

I've noticed the talk of Marvel's weekly seems to have disappeared. I wonder if they'll still try one.

That image is also on LITG this week, and is the back cover of PREVIEWS for their MAR 2007 catalog. When you open the link to the cover , it is a closer image of the middle section (scroll down to the picture of Previews to open a the larger photo).

Karate Kid is visible, behind Big Barda and Catwoman, and underneath the flying Captain Marvel, and to the left of Zatanna.

Make you wonder if it is legit, or if they are pulling a fast one, like with KK's appearance on those early Justice League of America promo posters.

I'll definitely be picking this up (at least until all my credit cards are maxed out, damn it!)

Who is the blond Marvel? Did Billy get a dye job?

As far as I know, that is Billy now.

Remains to be seen how Freddy's going to be changed, though.

Freddy is now Captain Marvel, since Billy took up residence in the Rock of Eternity. I believe that is Freddy's new look...or will be by the end of the current "Trials of Shazam" book. I'm not following that series, so I'm just assuming. smile

I thought that was KK from the original release of the image. And the first thing I thought of was another bait and switch by DC. They keep teasing us with KK in the 21st Century. Or what appears to be the 21st Century. Either do it or stop using his image.

The Capt. Marvel figure shown in white with white hair is the new look that Billy sports since he now occupies the Wizard's seat in the Rock of Eternity.

Freddy appears to be getting a change to the red costume from the most recent issue of Trials.

Some thoughts on who will appear:

- Jimmy Olsen - so we know this already, and I feel like this could be the thing connecting the Legion to the 21st Century, and perhaps that explains KK. Plus he's so rich in his connection to the Fourth World.

Perhaps we'll see some time aspect to this series? Didio mentioned Kamanda in his interview, OMAC is a running theme, the Legion could be worked in and Booster and Rip are so centered in 52.

- Captain Atom/Monarch - and then there's this character. He's there on the cover, and Didio mentions the return of someone missing from the DCU for awhile (he just returned in Ion). Given how central he's been lately, I'm sure we'll see him here.

- Ray Palmer - and it certainly appears we'll see Ray too. We know Countdown connects in and out of current stories, so the 'Search for Ray Palmer' may end up finding Ray and then placing him firmly here, so the new Atom can remain the new Atom.

- Ion and Donna - that's pretty much a positive go.

- Mary Marvel - Ditto

- Trickster and Pied Piper - also confirmed, and will touch on themes from Identity Crisis, Villains Inc., etc.

I'm kinda looking forward to this. Should be interesting and I like all the writers they've announced. If Rucka, Johns, Waid and Morrison are on other DCU titles and these guys are heading Countdown, it should be a good year for DC.

Of course, I'm still pretty pissed about the Flash, but oh well, I know the editors of DC and Marvel hate me personally, so I guess I'm doing okay laugh

Well, I love Paul Dini and I love the weekly comic format, so I'll almost certainly be picking up most of this series.

However, I'm a little skeptical of this working as well as '52', based on what they've said about it thus far.

AArgh! I thought I was finally going to get away from the sucking sound that a weekly series causes in my wallet! I just don't know if I can keep doing it....With tax here in Tennessee, it ends up being fifteen bucks a month! That's about half of my comics budget...although I can't think of too many other titles I really need. And I really do love 52. Ah, crap.

Is that Triplicate Girl in front of Cyborg and above Black Adam?

Damnation! I am so hooked on Fourth World stuff that I'll probably get this - after saying no more weekly comics.

It's the image at the Newsarama link.

And yes, it looks like Triplicate Girl to me.

Well, I'm so hooked by the format of 52 that I'll definitely be on board for Countdown! Weekly comics are awesome (if a bit draining on the wallet).

Thanks for the extra info EDE and Tekwych. I guess it could be Lu but, to me, it looks more like Prince Valiant because of the hair. Hope they release a bigger image soon.

also they said that there will be another major death coming before the Countdown....Now I am wondering who will it be this time - I have a feeling that it will be Ray Palmer biting the dust.

I hope I am wrong.

Thanks for setting me straight on this Vee. Makes sense that Billy took on a more wizardlike appearance due to his new role. smile

Ive gotta wonder if they're doing the old switcheroo on the colour schemes if Mary will get the Blue/Red version? and its ever so nice to see my girl back in action again. Im asuming that is my girl and not a Lesbian Retcon.

Anyway, what Im wondering is countdown to WHAT?
unless they reverse the numbering making it an actual countdown(week one being issue 52, week two being issue 51 etc) then obviously theyre leading up to something even more expensive which Ill nonetheless buy.

Ah Well....tis good days to be a DC fan.

It is to the left of the part on the cover pages 74-75 contains pictures of Triplicate Girl and Karate Kid... I remember Karate Kid was on the cover of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 as well... any idea what this means?

don't think it's Triplicate Girl...I was thinking of Valda last seen in Shadowpact.
I thought that too at first but after pulling out the back issues for comparison I am pretty certain it isn't I love Orlando Furioso and would really like to see more of Valda, but the blue sleaves and yellow collar with 3 dots really makes me think it is Triplicate Girl.
