YES! I can't wait for more J.L.I. (my favorite JL) (since a couple more people besides me seemed interested in this over in the Brightest Day thread. i thought it wanted it's own thread) From what i've read online so far.Seems like Max Lord (or max and others) are gunning for the old members of the JLI. (not sure why anyone would want to though...HAHA) http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/comics/?cm=14706 (actually lots of the monthly preview cover pages are up over at DC) so the premise is, the JLI reforms to take down Max Lord. so far I've only seen: ICE, FIRE, CAPTION ATOM, AND BOOSTER GOLD. and BLUE BEETLE (JAIME) is on the fence, possibly being manipulated by Max. it's written by Giffen so it might stil be funny. Or at least not monstrously different than the spirit of the original. I'm just worried with the whole "gunning for the JLI" premise it's gonna be Blue Beetle stuffing fire, ice, booster, and cap atom into a mini fridge. ROCKET RED is supposed to make an appearance, not sure if it's Dimitri (back from the dead) or another RED. I'm hoping that Guy, Kara, J'onn, Wally and the others that are not dead (and the dead ones too!) make an appearance. Too bad straight man Hawkman was retconned out of existence. Maybe a member of the marvel family appearing?? In the previous "i can't believe it's not the JL" I was suprised how powerful this team really was/is. (a green lantern, power girl, fire, atom, marvel, fate, etc.) Anyone else excited? afraid?

From the dccomics description:
"...Now, surviving members Booster Gold, Captain Atom, Fire and Ice have to figure out what unseen mastermind is threatening to destroy the entire Super Hero community! There are no gray areas here – it's black and white and red with blood all over for this lost generation of Super Heroes ... "
SURVIVING!!! Black and white and red with blood???? it dosn't look good for our heroes. these are bad words. bad!!
might as well watch SAW.
also, it looks like the Rocket Reds get a redesign (or am i late to the boat on this one)

I'm definitely giving the first few issues a chance. I'm a little afraid because of the biweekly frequency and Judd Winick's involvement, but I CAN'T just ignore it! I'd say the first four issues are a definite buy. Whether I do from there or not will depend on what those issues do for me.
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

I really want to like this given Giffen's involvement but Winnick is making me really worried. Can't remember the last time I read an ongoing with Fire, Ice or Captain Atom--looking forward to it!

a news article with giffen and winnick. http://www.newsarama.com/comics/justice-league-international-returns-011012.html not sure, i never read winnick before but this article is pretty UNfunny. looks like the pencillers are a rotating three so far: aaron lopresti, joe bennet and fernando dagnino. Never heard of any of them. the covers are not bad and by tony harris. however that's a pet peeve when the art on the cover dosn't represent the quality inside. Probably i'll only like the art of every third one !! would be nice to see mcguire again, (of course) or hughes, or sprouse, immonen, or alphona or acuna .... Someone who can do facial expressions and action.

I'm interested in what happens in this book but of course the Winnick involvement means I won't every pay cover price for it. I'll wait til it's in a $1 bin in about a year if I decide I actually want to own it. I'd love it if is was Dmitri coming back as Rocket Red but I think from the solicits it's unfortunately clear that it's one of his replacements. That was such a useless death he had in The OMAC Project.

Disaster Boy, you don't have to worry about Lopresti and Bennet, both are excellent artists. I'm unfamiliar with Dagnino.
I'm hoping the unfunny solicits are red herrings. I'm not saying I want slapstick but...
And despite the Winnick-bashing (some of which IS deserved), the guy DOES have a sense of humour.
We'll see. I'm onboard for the duration unless it is UTTER crap. Or, y'know, $4 every issue.

keeping the JLI hype up! i bought Authority the Lost year number 8: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=4948&disp=table if that one dosn't work: http://www.comixology.com/previews/FEB100228/The-Authority-The-Lost-Year-8 i don't think this title is usually funny even though it's written by giffen. this was just a one off parallel world issue. complete with apollo and midnighter acting very much (almost identically) to booster and beetle. And dialogue was very much for the JLI fan ... " it was bad enoough when you set up that absurd resort on the living island in the pacific but this .... ? ! " just picked it up cause the cover was too much like mcguire's JL covers! it was fun. and kinda sweet to see the Authority compared to the JLI instead of the Big 7 (6) idea. and apparently there is a PART TWO titled: BWAH-HA-HOLOCAUST!"

hmmmph.
not so much with the funny.
Click Here For A Spoilerand all that blood really gross'd me out. especially cause i was trying to eat a sandwich. and what's with the uber corny quote at the end.
not what i was expecting.
i will get the next one but, no promisses on number three.
it has about the lasting value to me of a newspaper.

I wouldn't know anything about this book except what I glanced at. I dropped all books with Justice League in the title.

Well, I picked up JLI #1 and was very cautious in my approach. Some reviews I read had me thinking it might be a clunker. But actually, it wasn't bad at all, and had some cool moments to it.
Being funny would be too obvious IMO and a classic case of trying too hard to recapture the magic. So I'm glad its more serious. I liked the usage of all four of the main JLIers thus far, and I expect to see more of them.
I'm curious after #1 as to what is going to happen to Max. I think I'll give this series two more issues to see if it can hook me. So far, its interesting but there isn't exactly a huge hook to rope me in. We'll see.

I thought # 1 was really good!
I think our heroes have been placed in a very interesting and unique adverse situation and look forward to seeing how they handle it.

I liked it as well.
I really get tired of the Booster Gold self-pity show that he puts on every time I seem to read him. Hopefully we will see a more confident Booster and he will stay that way.
Max made a grave mistake by letting the world think Ted Kord killed himself. There was no way Booster would stand for that.
As far as the others go, I used to like Ice a lot back in the day, but here she seems off. Not sure why. Maybe I am just getting reacquainted with the character.
Captain Atom is a character that I despise and nothing in the first two issus has done anything to change that. Fire also seems to be written well. I am looking forward to Blue Beetle showing up.
And then there is Max. He has a pretty damn good scene with Booster. Death has apparently given him a new motivation and I am looking forward to watching the story progress.
Quick comment: I know Max had to amp up his power, but the method shown was a little over the top even for me.
Touch the magic...

# 2, read it and enjoyed it. I am really enjoying the adverse situation Max has put our heroes in, and look forward to them ultimately prevailing (I hope!!) and seeing how they manage to do so.

#2 was a continuation of #1 with both some better and worse things.
On the negative side, I have to admit about half-way through wondering if I really cared all that much about Max Lord and the story. I'm not sure what's changed that much since #1 but I think Max has just become a character I hate more than most others--like Jason Todd even. I'm really hoping he's more off-screen than on and we get some nice sequences with Fire & Ice and Captain Atom. If this was a monthly comic, I wouldn't probably be thinking about this but realizing I'll have to commit to this comic twice a month has made me rethink it.
On the plus side, Joe Bennett is on the artwork and I absolutely fell in love with his work on 52 and know he works really well with Giffen. I think has a very dramatic sense of style and is able to draw some great looking, strong characters. His artwork will go a long way for me. One complaint, however, is the coloring made it look much too dark in places. What's up with that? Something else else felt off and I'm sure that was it. On 52, the coloring was much brighter and more effective and it made his art 'pop' more. I'd like to see that.
I'm still on board but not committed to the whole thing quite yet.

Just grabbed issue #1 of this. Not bad. The whole JLI was a joke thing needs to end soon though. Batman, J'onn, amongst others were also on that team. Ted proved his worth and Bats knows what Booster is up too. I'd like to see Bruce get on everyone's case when he finally returns...but I doubt that will happen. Ah well.
Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

I liked the Booster Gold issue they did to tie in with this. Seeing Booster chewing out Cyborg felt SO good.

I think that was the final thing that pushed me to give this a try. I want to see Booster get some respect...eventually.

I think the Booster doesn't get the respect & credit he deserves adds a new layer of heroism to Booster but I totally get what you're saying. I'd at least like Batman to give *someone* a lecture about Booster, like Hal or Ollie. Maybe not everyone knows but one more person (with the great Bats scene you describe) would be great to see.

Captain Atom is the big draw for me, as is the Fire & Ice dynamic. (Tho' that hasn't had a lot of screen time ye.) 13 issues- I will likely stick around for the whole story.
Just spouting off.

Haven't read the first issue, yet, Ceej! I'm currently nearly 2 months behind, but I should get to number one within a week. For reference I just read BD 1 and War of the Supermen 1.

#4 now read and I'm still on the fence on the comic. On the one hand, I love the characters and am enjoying them enough to stick around for a bit. On the other, I'm realizing I just don't give a crap about Max Lord and the overall storyline for this comic. I'm hoping the latter can change while the former keeps me buying.
Adding Jamie to the title was a good thing. He's no Ted Kord but I've grown to like Jamie after buying his title when it was coming out. This series needs a little youthful exuberance.
