Welcome to what will be a semi-regular series: THE AMBUSH BUG REVIEWTonight's book: ACTION COMICS # 560 (special thanks to the lovely & talented Fat Cramer!) Chock-full of nucking futs dialogue ("My first client! Thanks, Rao!"), it is here that we get some backstory on the Bug. He was indeed a resident of Arkham Asylum and was raised by his Television. Wackiness factor: 6/10 (the story is pretty coherent) Retconned out: The Bug learns Superman's secret identity. The Bug's major heroic feat this issue: He arrests a Buick parked by an expired meter. Special kudos: Keith Giffen, for his sexy fuzzy-chested Superman in bed panels! YUM! My verdict: A MUST-have!

And I got two more Son of Ambush Bug issues (#3 & #6) at the CBS on Saturday - for free!
Would it be better to have an Ambush Bug series, with DC heroes guest-starring - or have the Bug appear in books of other characters?

As do I! I think it'd be a great series myself, and I'm all for heavy appearances by Superman, who I think plays well off Ambush Bug. Also, I'd love to see Ambush Bug/Batman, Ambush Bug/Hawkman and then for the total opposite reason, Ambush Bug/Heckler.
Keep the Ambush Bug reviews coming Lash, I need to see which Ambush Bug stories I'm missing from my collection!

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE AMBUSH BUG?Find out in this recent article. I'm surprised that some thought Julie Schwartz was an UNwilling butt to Buggy's jokes. I always thought it seemed like Julie had a GREAT sense of humour. I'm glad I was right... Ambush Bug

That was a cool article, and it had this cool link in it: Ambush Bug archives which I recommend! I really wish we'd get to see more Ambush Bug, especially when he's played off against Superman (or other DC icons). I think it might be time to go back and re-read all the Ambush Bug issues I own (I think it's all but the Son of Ambush Bug mini, but I'll have to check...)

Coming soon: SUPERGIRL 16 review
Coming NOW: LOBO UNBOUND # 6
Got it today; Buggy's role is small but funny.
Some snippets:
Buggy's in a full-body cast, being fed through a pipe, so his reply to Lobo is muffled: "MLF... GMLFL...". Fortunately, the editor translates it for us: MLF... GMLFL... Thanks goodness for translations!
Best Line of Issue: "You couldn't find your ass with an extra pair of hands and an ass atlas!"
Here's hoping an AMBUSH BUG mini comes soon!

Agreed! That would be great if Giffen could do Ambush Bug!
I haven't read #6 of Lobo yet, but I should by the end of the week.
Here's an idea for a great Giffen mini-series: give him a character like Superman, Flash, the Atom, or whoever, and have him team up with various Giffen characters during the course of it. This would include heavy Ambush Bug, Lobo, the Heckler, Vext and maybe the Subs if he could figure out how to sneak them in!

Now the only Buggy appearance that I must have is ACTION 563!

Lash, hope you saw my review of Ambush Bug vs. the Subs and Supes in DC Comics Presents in the All-Keith Giffen thread!
I just bought it on Friday and read it for the first time! Possibly my fave Ambush Bug appearance so far!

Cobie, Wonderland Comics has most of those early Bug appearances. We'll have to make a comic run next weekend! And Lashie, I can't remember if they had Action 563, but I will check for you next visit. 'Kay? BUGGARIFIC!

I just bought it on Friday and read it for the first time! Possibly my fave Ambush Bug appearance so far! hey cobalt i still have that comic from when i originally brought it off the comic rack at a 7-11 back around 82 or 83 the cover is dog-eared and wrinkled and the pages are yellow. but that is still and always will be my favorite issue of that comic . Ambush bug set aloose wrecking havok on the 30th century is a classic example of how witty Geffen could be. the last group of panels on the last page with stoneboy stuck in the ground. (after taking a header trying to catch the bug) and fire lad and chlorophyl kid standing over stoney trying to figure out how to free him is priceless. even now some 20 years later it still has me LMAO.

Lashie-- No Action 563, sorry! They had 560 and 565, though, but no 563... darnit. Cobester! They DO have Supergirl 16, next time you make your way up to these parts!

1. Laughing too much to read more than a few pages at a time.
2. Better than chocolate.
3. More to follow.
Oh, yes - 4. I want an Ambush Bug Action Figure.

Giffen is one of the few writers ever that actually makes me laugh out loud while reading a book. Ambush bug almost always made me laugh so hard I cried. ...even mentioning that Stone Boy panel made me start chuckling. Funny stuff.

Jean Loring was framed. I want Ambush Bug to conduct an investigation into that fiasco.

I love the origin of the nine-panel grid! That should be in the Comics Hall of Fame.

THIS is the IDENTITY CRISIS, right? or is Ambush Bug the body Batman carries in DC Countdown? or is AMbush Bug responsible for swiping Rann?
