OK Pov, spill the beans - did you watch too many soaps and just imagine the "Franklin knocked up his own mom" scenario?

The Watcher tells the FF that Franklin’s powers are gone forever but that there is one final gift. At the story’s conclusion, a very pregnant Sue emerges from the Baxter Building.
Basically, that's it. Franklin burned out his cosmic powers working with Valeria to restore Galactus and then the multiverse... then he used the last of it so Valeria could be born in this reality.

All kidding aside, I thought it was very cool. smile

Oh man, who ever works for Marvel must have been using drugs...that is the wildest explanation of "reincarnation" i have ever heard.

So Valeria's "stillborn" self was teleported to another dimension until such time she was ready and willing to implant herself within Sue's womb - is that basically the gist of the conception, apart from Franklin's role in the drama?

To quote Phyllis Stephens from "Bewitched": "Frank, i think i am getting a sick headache"

Sorta. After Franklin rescued her, Valeria grew up in Roma's dimension and came back to the FF's reality during Claremont's run; This was all a retcon, I think; I'm not sure what Claremont's original intentions were for the character.

Valeria faded away while she and Franklin were restoring Galactus, and Franklin restored Sue's pregnancy to a point before she lost the baby. I presume he also fixed the abnormalities that caused Sue to lose the baby originally.

Ooog, my head hurts. lol

Not how "Franklin knocked up his own mom" to quote Pov. Explain the plot of FF 49 (v3) to those who havent been reading for a while ..."I'm having one of my sick headaches, Frank"[/b]
No-one can. It's infamous as one of the least coherent issues in Marvel history (and in a publishing history that includes Starblast, that's saying something).

It was bad to start with, then Loeb butchered it further at the scripting stage, changing several aspects Because He Could. Pacheco & Marin actually ended up posted their original plot at ffplaza.com as a sort of "cliff notes"

My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm not so sure about BW, other than he's the kid genius Calvin thinks -he- is. It really doesn't have the dynamics of C&H. But SoaG is most certainly a tip-of-the-hat to Calvin, right down to H.E.R.B.I.E.-as-Hobbes. The final story was definitely an homage to the C&H "Duplicator" strips collected in Scientific Progress Goes "Boink".

I hope these Franklin strips continue somehow, and reach for a little more than just paying tribute to the source. It could be fabulous in its own right. smile

I'd love to see them continue too, as a back-up in some book. I don't think it would stand as a monthly but a couple of pages in a Marvel Age book would be great.

We gave Caroline's dentist's wife (also his receptionist) my store bought copy along with the digest TPB of the Power Pack mini to her yesterday for their six year old who is totally into comics. She's never had experience with a kid loving comics (comes from an all girl family and their three other children are girls) and was glad when I told her it was normal for a kid her son's age to love comics. I guess he goes around telling people about the latest Batman or Superman adventure he's read.

At least there is one more for the next generation.

As long as they continue to collect the strips in one-shots like this. But yes, anything they have to do to keep this going, I'm all for it. nod

Collections would be cool. And I don't see why they can't just give it a couple of pages in all the Marvel Age (or whatever the young reader books are called this month) books. It can be the same strip, easy enough to do. That way no matter what book you get, you'll be able to read the further adventures of Cal...Franklin and H.E.R.B.I.E.

I took one look at the cover, Scott.

I have determined that the art looks way too cartoony to be anything but brain-fodder for the little tykes who may want to grow up deciding whether a little brother or sister will take their place in the family unit - so they can be sent back in time to a point where they weren't even born yet.

There going for it! The back-ups at least. According to Comics Continuum .

MORE FRANKLIN RICHARDS

Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada said last weekend at Wizard World Boston that there would be more Franklin Richards: Son of a Genius stories, and on Friday Marvel announced its plans.

Following a sellout of Fantastic Four Presents Franklin Richards: Son of a Genius at Diamond, Marvel announced future back-up stories by Mark Sumerak and Chris Eliopoulos.

Look for more Franklin in the Spider-Man Halloween Ashcan, available through Diamond Comics. Then in December, X-Men #180 and Fantastic Four Special 2005 will feature all-new Franklin stories, finding the son of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman getting himself into even more trouble alongside his robotic sidekick/nanny H.E.R.B.I.E.

David Gabriel, Marvel's director of sales, noted "that these Franklin backup stories, similar to the back up tales in Amazing Fantasy and the upcoming Ultimate Vision story in the Ultimate books, are extra content added to these titles. We are not cutting the regular story pages, and in most cases tossing out ad space. So fans get extra story at no extra cost, and at no shortening of the main title's story."

"Wow! Talk about the little comic that could!" Sumerak said. "Who'd have thought that we'd go from back-up strips in Power Pack to a sell-out one-shot? Congrats to the tiniest member of the FF family for finally getting some time to shine! I'm truly honored by all the support that both Marvel and the fans have given this title. It's exciting to see that readers of all ages have been discovering this fun little strip."

"I'm proud to be part of the creative team that is expanding the comic market and developing the next generation of comic fans," said Eliopoulos, the co-plotter, artist, and letterer. "As a father of twin boys, I know how hard it is to find age-appropriate comics for kids that adults can enjoy as well, and we worked really hard to give everyone something fun to read."

Really liked the Power Pack mini, but couldn't quite get into the Franklin Richards stories -- not sure why. Maybe 'cos I was perpetually worried that poor lil' Franklin's neck wouldn't be able to support the weight of his enormous head... eek

And there's this one comic strip (I forget the name at the moment -- it takes place in an elementary school) whose art is really reminiscent of C&H...

PS238 ? By Aaron Williams, the same guy who does Nodwick? Love it, and Nodwick.

Nodwick is hilarious! And I just got the "collected" Full Frontal Nerdity a while back, which was amusing.

The strip I was thinking of is Frazz, by Jef Mallett . That guy looks like a grown-up Calvin!

Hadn't read Frazz before. I'll have to peruse their archives. As for FFN, that and Nodwick are my online Thursday fix. I'm afraid I identify with the FFN gang way too much. The same with Dork Tower.
