I buck the trend (shocking!), but for some reason I've rarely enjoyed vampire stories mashed up with super heroes. I think a lot of the other mystical, sorcery stuff can work fine (it's an alternative kind of science), but vampires seem to much their own, serious thing to work well with other genres. Although some of the more updated versions might work.
Except for the odd change in Andrew's last name (what was wrong with Bennet anyway?) and the uneeded Anne Rice termanology for his former lover Mary (she was the leader of a group of vampire terrorists, not the 'Mother' of them all), it would indeed seem to indicate a return-to/rehash-of his original storyline from House of Mystery. If so, you will be glad to hear that there should be very little if any mixing with 'Super-heroes'. Pre-Crisis, Andrew Bennet only encountered one in his entire existence and that was a single teaming with Batman in The Brave and the Bold (and what DC character didn't team with Batman at some point in that era?). I hope they change his name back to Bennet before it goes to print, drop the silly 'Queen of the Damned' title from Mary and re-introduce Mishkin and Deborah Dancer to the book. Do that, and I just might buy it.
P.S. I HATED what they did with Andrew in Dr. Fate and Team 13 and was absolutely apalled by his appearance in the Halloween special when they brought him back only to kill his former girlfriend Deborah Dancer. Not to mention that they depicted her with the wrong hair color, long hair when it should have been short and completely ignored the fact that she was an uber-vampire that could walk in the sun thanks to a formula created by Soviet Vampires out to conquer the world.

Re: the new Superman and Superirl outfits:
Those seams in their costumes/armor make them look like big articulated action figures.

And Lee's redesign of Superman with the armor and the scalloped legs etc. remind me of that Superman toy from way back that was a spaceship with arms. (anyone remember that?)

Drake--I completely agree with the Supermobile. A lot of it is the metallic shade of blue they seem to be using.

I'm horrified by that Perez rendering of Supes. It looks like someone PRETENDING to be Superman, rather than the actual Superman. I find it hard to imagine a logical, in-story reason for SUPERMAN of ALL DC heroes to need a graceless, bulky, armor-like super suit. They better get their stuff together before September.

From a live broadcast of the WGBS Evening News - April 23, 1978.

LANA LANG: Steve, the Supermobile is the most astounding vehicle on Earth...

STEVE LOMBARD: ...Or above it, Lana! Constructed from Supermanium, the hardest metal in our known universe, it is practically as indestructible as the Man of Steel himself!

We've seen how the SMB has been fitted with special equipment which enables it to simulate every one of Superman's powers...

But the super-question is why?

Why has the Metropolis Marvel imposed this bizarre quarantine on himself, not daring to emerge from his mobile cocoon?

For the amazing answer, we turn to Oscar Asherman -- the WGBS science editor!

OSCAR ASHERMAN: Thank you, Steve. To find the key to Superman's strange behavior, we must look starward -- to a far distant galaxy...

...where billions of years ago, an unstable red sun flared up...

...spewing it's radiation throughout space! After fanning out across billions of light years, the red rays reached our solar system several days ago and began sweeping across the Earth!

The presence of the strange radiation has proven to be absolutely harmless to you and me...

...but to a Kryptonian, the rays from the red sun mean a total loss of super powers!

We believe Superman knew the radiation was on the way... ...so he constructed a vehicular shell to shield him from the power sapping rays...

...a shell that still allows him to maintain his patrol of Metropolis and use all his super powers!

Back to you, Lana!

LANA LANG: A very informative report, Oscar...

...and concise as usual!

That wraps up the 6 O'Clock Evening News! Later this week, Clark Kent will be back with me at this desk...

...to tell us all about his remote -- and I do mean remote -- assignment in the bleak desert of Death Valley!

Just got around to checking out the cover and reading the FULL solicitation for "I, Vampire".
For hundreds of years, vampire Andrew Stanton kept mankind safe from the horrors of the supernatural world, thanks to a truce he made with his ex-lover Mary, the Queen of the Damned. But now that truce has reached a bloody end and Andrew must do everything in his power to stop Mary and her dark forces from going on a killing spree – and she plans to start with the heroes of the DCU!
I stand corrected. They are not rehashing the original storyline from 'House of Mystery' and...
This is not just merely Crap, it is truly quite sincerely Crap.

DCBS *is* giving 50% off the DCnU #1 issues... IF you buy all 52. Individually they're only an extra 2% added to the standard 40% discount they offer for major publishers. I'm still going to be trying new stuff out, but it's not worth the extra 10% off when I KNOW there's stuff in those 52 titles-- the war stuff, Captain Atom, I,Vampire, WildStorm books, the Supertitles, the regular Batbooks-- I'm not interested in. tongue

They just announced a Shade 12-issue mini by Robinson with a number of high-caliber artists, starting with Cully Hamner in October... drool I'm *SO* there. JR's other DC stuff has been shite in my--and alot others'-- opinion, but his STARMAN stuff is untouchable. Blackest Night Starman #81 showed he's still got what's been lacking in his JLA and Gag For Justice...

Cannot wait to get The Shade.

Truth be told, my DC list is shrinking a lot. They have 6 months on the books I am getting from the DCNU to grab me (or however long the first arc is. That includes the Legion stuff and Flash.

Just like I think 52 #1's isn't a good move business wise, I think its an even worse move to have even more #1's the next month. If Huntress #1 or My Greatest Adventure #1 came out randomly, I'd probably get both without blinking an eye, just to sample them. But since I'm already giving a whole slew of titles a chance for their #2's, I'm going to just have to pass on them and forget they ever existed (unless I suddenly hear they're a modern day Fantastic Four #51 or something).

I will squeeze in the Shade though for the artists and to see if Robinson really does still have it. And Legion Secret Origins is an absolute buy for me.

In an entirely geeky mood, I took my CBS up on their special offer to buy all 52 #1s at a discount. It's a long time since I read a war comic (except for Unknown Soldier); there's a bunch of other titles I would not normally read, but thought it could be fun to overdose on DC (and maybe discover a hidden gem).

FC, I like the idea of buying all 52 #1s but just can't bring myself to spend the bucks. And I haven't noticed my CBS offering a discount.

I've looked at the previews, and in addition to the two Legion books I'm starting off with 11 others.
Justice League, Justice League International, Captain Atom, Mister Terrific
Action, Superman
Batwing
Green Lantern: New Guardians
Swamp Thing, Stormwatch
Teen Titans, Legion Lost, LSH

That's the most DC I've ever bought in a month. We'll see if it lasts. Of course, I may pick up others once I see them on the rack.

I'm trying to maintain my discipline and only buy the ten books that I mentioned on another thread. However, the previews of the artwork for some of the titles that have been released the past few days have me tempted to add more. Specifically, Nightwing, some of the Bat books, Aquaman, both Superman titles, and I, Vampire now have my interest. Must be strong. I have bills to pay.

You should post one review each day until you run out of books!

My comic shop is in such bad straits right now that they only buy ordered books, no rack stuff!

Yeah, and I don't see the digital end of the relaunch helping the comic shops.

Maybe a temporary boost, but while people may try things out digitally and pick up hard copies of things they like that they wouldn't have otherwise bought, they're also trying out the digital medium, and I really think that more will decide to go all-or-mostly digital than those who will buy more paper editions because of sampling the digital version.

And they really don't need to lose too many more paper readers to make printing economically unfeasible.

Random thougths about DCnU news:

-So they're going to make Clark Kent a single lovelorn loser and Superman is now less trusted by the public ... is Superman tuning into Spider-man??

- The Atom is Ryan Choi?? Wow. I didn't have such a strong reaction when he was killed, (even though I dismissed it as a cheap stunt) but I find myself enthused that he's back. Needless to say, Lee wanted a bit of asian diversity and that's a good thing. Makes me wonder what's up with Ray Palmer - will he be Ryan's mentor? More of a Reed Richards type? It's wide open...

- "Lady Luck" is the mysterious female JLA member? The name doesn't pique my interest.

I really am not feeling the incorporation of Wildstorm characters into the DCU. I find myself resenting them quite a bit. And I don't particular dislike any of them. Maybe someday I'll think of them as a valuable part of the DCU, like the Marvel family or the Charlton characters or the Quality characters.

Trailers for the new 52

While I'm glad they're actually engaging in an ad campaign, it's not really appealing to me.

I will be borrowing a copy of the 2 Legion titles from a friend and deciding whether or not to purchase them after reading them. I won't be purchasing any of the other titles now or ever. If I decide not to purchase the Legion titles, then I guess I am done with DC until the next Reboot rolls around and I will have a gap in my Legion collection for the first time since their original appearance.
