Originally posted by Dev Em: Snyder on Batman means that I am definitely getting that book. Yeah, I'm glad he's staying with the Bat and will definitely pick this up. The artistic choice of Greg Capullo is perplexing, though. Snyder's Batman stories have been more moody/noir-type pieces, and I associate Capullo with more garish, flashy superhero-y stuff like X-Force and Spawn. I was hoping his artist would be Francisco Francavilla who did a lot of Snyder's Detective Comics stories. Francavilla's art perfectly complements Snyder's writing and also boasts some of the most exciting, gorgeous and inventive layouts I've seen this side of J.H. Williams III! Just take a gander at 'Tec 875, which explored James Gordon Jr.'s backstory, for Exhibit A! I hope Snyder doesn't start telling more generic, flashier stories to suit Capullo. I'd much rather see Capullo change his style to suit Snyder's!

DC has been moving in the direction of the early 90's Marvel / Image for awhile with some of its comics and I think their making an effort to do it on the Bat comics.
I expect Francavilla (one of my favorites) will be utilized elsehwere. But I agree, I think he's the absolute perfect fit for Batman, particularly in 'Detective'.

Random reactions to what's been revealed: - JLA Dark. Milligan writing Shade the Changing Man again? I'm in! - Leifeld?!?! Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!! (sorry, Hawk and Dove fans) - Too bad there isn't a retooled Doom Patrol for their "dark" stable of titles. - I like how they're promoting diversity with heroes like Cyborg and Static shock who have a history and their own identities rather than simply having heroes of color taking on another hero's name or persona. - I wonder how DC's been able to use the "Red Robin" name when there's a food chain using it as well. (and now I have their jingle in my head...) - I still miss the gold in Wonder Woman's costume...

^Well, Red Robin as a series is done, so I wonder if that's why. Originally posted by Pov: Liefeld?!!! Their "3-in-the-can" is doomed. DOOMED, I tells ya... We'll have to create a thread taking bets on which artist will miss a deadline or cause a fill-in: Finch, Lee or Liefield. I'm thinking Lee. Rob is expected to blunder so he has everything to prove; Lee just doesn't give a f%ck about anything.

I think the B&R thing was more Frank Miller's fault than Jim Lee's.

Anyone have some intuition on where Blue Beetle (Jaime) is going to end up? Here you have a young, hispanic character who's been prominently featured in BBATB cartoons and "Smallville," but he's in Teen Titans, not in JLI. Solo book? One of the "other" JL members? Can't believe he'd be completely ignored given the stated objectives of the relaunch.

So I see Marvel spanked the crap out of DC again in sales with Flashpoint #1 getting beat out by the second issue of Fear Itself from Marvel (which like Flashpoint, ain't nothing to write home to Mom about).
Since they're part of a large conglomerate that cares only about market share, clearly, DC feels it has to do something.

(it will also be interesting to see sales of all other DC titles, since they're essentially "lame duck" books)

So far the one bit of truly depressing news about the relaunch is that James Robinson is nowhere to be seen. His JLA hasn't been much to write home about, but the relaunch seems like it would have been a great opportunity for him to build a character mythology like the one he did for Starman. Hope he's got something up his sleeve for later.

So it is very interesting to look at these in their entirety, to see what is and isn't important in the DCnU.
- Superman is again the 1st super hero, and I hope the benchmark against which all others are measured. One of the worst things since the first Crisis is that Superman felt like just one among many.
- As a result of the prior point, no WWII heroes, no JSA. A bitter pill, but probably necessary. I have loved the JSA since the early 1970s, but it just can't coexist in 2011 with a group of heroes where Superman is a just another junior member.
- a more general lack of obvious nostalgia, unless it's for the 1990s, and I hope that's just a coincidence of Lee's influence the limited art we've seen. No JSA, no Marvels, no Freedom Fighters, no red target or whatever. I imagine we will see them, in fine form, in Morrison's Multiversity. Maybe an occasional JL crossover? Probably too nostalgic.
- Superman may be the Big Dog again, but he's not totally alone in that brand space with Apollo and Captain Atom. I hope we will see some nice contrasts there.
- sadly, Batman still has had enough sidekicks to be investigated by child protective services, especially since the oldest still allows himself to be called "Dick."
- on Batman, I'm concerned, as much as I have loved Batman, Inc, that it's a concept for an older, not a younger universe.
- significant (?) characters we don't have a clue about: besides ALL the JSAers except Mr. Terrific, and the Marvels, there's the Atom, Plastic Man, Red Tornado, Specter, Question, Huntress, Beast Boy, Ravager, Donna Troy, Wally West, Miss Martian, Raven, Doom Patrol, Metal Men, Outsiders and Secret Six. Wow.
- it's not clear to me there ever WAS a Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans. Hard to wrap my head around that one. If Bart Allen is Kid Flash (and has been referred to as such by the TT artist), hard to imagine he's the grandson of Barry and Iris Allen.
- with all those missing, there feels like a lot of room to maneuver in the DCnU, which I hope is a boon to the creative staff.
- if the super hero space is freed up, the supernatural and covert space seems too crowded. So we have a UN JLI, SHADE, the Sgt Rock group, the Suicide Squad, Blackhawk, Stormwatch and Checkmate? Do we really need all those? That's ridiculous overkill. The coverts will be tripping all over each other. I predict an early Event will be a war amongst these groups with at least half of them wiped out.
- biggest pander to women who probably still won't read comics? Shirtless teenage vampire.
- worst name? Justice League Dark. Why not Justice Leauge Creepy? Justice League Twighlight? Justice League Shadows?
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

So, any plausible guesses how Batman can be de-aged and yet Damian Wayne still be Robin?
