I foresee another DC Implosion. I definitely will NOT be checking out Johns and Lee's JLA. I've come to despise Johns' writing, and Lee is the most overrated artist in the world. Plus, the Big 7 bores me. ^ Business as usual at DC's website, then.

This will almost surely guarantee massive sales.
Those massive gains in sales will be gone within 3 months.

i guess this type of stuff works to sell books .... since they've done it over and over at this point. just seems weird to me. can't i just buy comics with some regularity. It's pretty sad the state of comic book affairs these days, just a bunch of gimmicks, tricks, and comic book as advertising for upcoming movie. i'm kinda tired of the big seven too, didn't seem very exciting the first time, after reading the first 10-12 issues of the Authority, seemed more like a big rip off. especially since it was. heh heh i would be up for it if there was some reason for it ...or was interesting. dunno.

As I wondered in a similar thread I started in another section, what will this mean for LSH? Most likely the retcon will include the Legion - and just after we'd finally gotten Mr. Levitz back on the book and rescued most silver age continuity to boot. Damn!
If the meek shall inherit inherit the Earth, then I at least want Baffin Island - and a property manager to work for me who is made of sterner stuff than I.

' We have taken great care in maintaining continuity where most important, but fans will see a new approach to our storytelling. Some of the characters will have new origins, while others will undergo minor changes. '

is it SO hard to write stories, that everybody needs to constantly restart from scratch!?!?!

Not only restarts but a company wide reboot according to CBR. Changes to origins, ages and aspects of characters. So expect a single Superman and other things.
I think this could be a huge blunder for DC sales wise: a company wide jumping off point for core readers.
Personally I think it's utter crap but not surprising in the least. The DC editorial of this era is horrible and this more of the same. The lowpoint of DC's history continues.

Ps - dc readers, stop supporting this nonsense and buy independents! This forum has a plethora of topics featuring current independent comics that won't let you down the way the big 2 have.

I agree Cobalt, I think a lot of loyal readers like DC because it has a different vibe and history than marvel. also vice versa. I happen to like the two different 'atmospheres' of each company for their own sake.
Is this a pandering to movie audiences that might go for more pseudo realistic characters and settings rather than the old fashioned super hero type with cape and logo on their chest?

I think this could be a huge blunder for DC sales wise: a company wide jumping off point for core readers. I agree. Moreover, it is fiscally INSANE to try and do THIRTEEN LAUNCHES A WEEK! Seriously, think about that - how many people have the cash to preorder all those titles just to try them out? Retailers certainly don't have the cash to order heavily on fifty-two "new" titles. What I suspect will happen is that a few titles (like Justice League) will launch big, but their sales will be less than they would have been because of the insane signal-to-noise ratio. And lower books will launch a bit higher than their predecessors, and swiftly be gutted as they lose a big chunk of their previous core fanbase and don't have the influx they'd need to replace them (again, to do with the noise-to-signal ratio). And finally, if they're deaging characters like Superman & Batman, they're going to lose at least one whole generation of characters and a lot of the "texture" of their universe. Right now, DC has the Golden Agers, plus three-and-a-half generations of "modern" characters - the Superman/Batman generation, the Dick Grayson/Donna Troy/Wally West generation, the Kyle Rayner/Tim Drake/Kon-El generation and a half-formed fifth generation with Damien Wayne/nuKara/etc. Once you start wholesale changes in this way, you either get characters previously a significant age apart turned into direct contemporaries, or you get whole tiers of characters squeezed out entirely. This smacks of panic and desperation, and their ultimate best-case has to be where they are now a year down the line.

Would anyone like to start a comic book company with me? I predict by next year there will be a 30% void in the market.

We could go old school and put them in grocery stores so that people without driver's licenses could actually read them.

I DO like the idea of new costume designs. I love new costumes. I can hope that Lee, whom I like, usually, decides to update the women to something more modest and functional. But, probably not. sigh
A singin' and a dancin' along the way.

You've got to love the fact that they're relaunching to be all new and contemporary, and the Justice League is basically the same "characters who just happened to still be being published in 1960" line-up, minus the Martian Manhunter!
I mean... you'd think they would sit down and figure out who the really hip current characters are and then fill the rebooted or whatever Justice League out with them!

I've already said how I feel on this. I am DONE.
The only bright thing is that this really sticks it in James Robinson's craw by cutting his run on JLA short.

You'd think all the time they spend rebooting characters, destroying universes, and erasing continuities, that time could've been spent putting effort into writing good stories and fixing the mistakes they made.

Brian Hibbs\' reaction . Similar to mine, but at greater length and some extra points [I particularly like his reminder of how "One Year Later" went] Originally posted by Eryk Davis Ester: You've got to love the fact that they're relaunching to be all new and contemporary, and the Justice League is basically the same "characters who just happened to still be being published in 1960" line-up, minus the Martian Manhunter!

It's such a bad business decision that I'm laughing to myself thinking of the ramifications. A person who would buy even 20 new titles would have to have the $$ to do it, plus a pre-existing connection to DC in order to make that kind of commitment to that many new series. Yet, a person with a pre-existing connection to DC is probably the person who feels the most shit-on right now.

Thinking positive, this may mean that I'll finally be able to lay claim to owning Action Comics #1!

There's a good chance the number of existing copies of the two Action Comics #1 will be similar!

This could, seriously, kill DC Comics publishing. *If* they were going to insist on doing it, Bryan Hibbs had it right in that bit I linked above - to have a hope in hell, they HAD to stagger the #1s over several months, even if that it meant a September where they only published 8-12 books. As it is, the middle/lower end of their books are going to crash and crash hard by January.
