That they did! Okay, a few random things: (1) Arachne-- I so saw you post that same thing at CBR's thread! About Dani being written out to make Sam look better, that is. (I was always of the opinion that the New Mutants book was a bit Dani-centric when Claremont wrote it and that Simonson didn't really know what to do with that, so she got rid of her.) (2) VALKYRIE! FINALLY! Although, I want to know why everyone keeps SAYING SHE STILL IS ONE when she hasn't had death powers in years and was KICKED OUT of Asgard. (It came up when she guested in Avengers: The Initiative, too. Crazy ol' Skrully Thor Girl was all weird about her having been one.) (3) Sam, you're kind of all over the place, dude. Letting Dani punch you all the time (he's so her b*tch) and bouncing around all over the place. Not very cohesive in your ability to command, dude. I'm kind of getting the vibe that Scott thinks Dani will be the next leader-- which would be a hilarious throwback to super early NM when Brood!Xavier was all, "Dani could be even better than Scott... if she doesn't go crazy." (4) Um, are we ever going to see Rahne/Wolf Prince interact with the rest of the New Mutants? I only ask because it's starting to really piss me off that they're so separate. Especially since freaking Hela can show up in both books! HELA! WHO IS ASGARDIAN AND A PLOT DEVICE! I'm just sayin'. (5) In a similar vein, the NM were all, "Yo, Xavier!" before Necrosha hit-- when will they be like, "Yo, Mags!"? Cuz, y'know, he was their teacher for a long ass time and stuff. And now he's kind of Scott's b*tch, so... yeah. He's around. Letting his creations terrorize the Young X-Men a lil' but mostly behaving, I think. (6) WTF, Zeb Wells, why must you INFER so much but not outright SAY hardly anything at all? I keep feeling like I'm missing things. Like-- did Dani drop Sam out of hte plane on purpose cuz she's still pissy? Did Doug come back right? And how can anyone understand him if he makes a language up? Since when does Roberto like Amara? Why is Illyana so effed up? THE LIST GOES ON, MAN. I swear, if this gets canceled before I get resolution, HEADS WILL ROLL PEOPLE. That said, I'm actually quite enjoying the series. It's fun to see them together again and as adults and stuff. I do hate how Emma's acting like their n00bs in this last issue tho and keeps saying they shouldn't be a team. UM, THEY PWND YOU A FEW TIMES WHILE YOU WERE EVIL, EMS. JUST SAYIN'. Mayhap someone is holding a grudge..?

Huh? She still had her death sense in X-Men #102, long after she came back from Asgard. Do you know what issue it was with Thor Girl? I somehow missed it. Sam's a bit out of character, but I've got no problem with Dani finally getting some spotlight. Actually, I always thought Dani would replace Cyclops and Sam would replace Xavier. Wolf Prince is gone, I think. Maybe Dani will see him in Hel next issue. (5) In a similar vein, the NM were all, "Yo, Xavier!" before Necrosha hit-- when will they be like, "Yo, Mags!"? I don't think Dani dis that on purpose, but I agree with the rest. That said, I'm actually quite enjoying the series. It's fun to see them together again and as adults and stuff. I think Cable's in the lead now, but some people think he doesn't qualify as "beloved".

so...i dropped the book but, picked-up the latest cause of all the crazy hope-messiah tie ins
the art was unclear regarding: Click Here For A Spoilershan's leg? was it stabbed or cut off? brutal.
the teams starting to kick butt. not sure i liked hodge ripping sam a new one: Click Here For A Spoilerabout how he can't maneuver or be invulnerable while stopped. when he fought gladiator several years ago he overcame this problem. i appreciate the history of teh writer knwoing sams historic limitations but not sure. i think it's better for sam to have moved on and contrlled his powers better.
one thing: how come magma dosn't just bury them all in lava? she's being underused or toned down for the plot. she used to have a lot more sass.
oh and: Click Here For A Spoilermagik is gone?? whuuu
more spoliers: Click Here For A Spoilerwasn't warlock taught not to eat humans by doug and crew. hmmm this came full circle.

Well, they tricked me with this issue, but I think I'll be laying off NEW MUTANTS until all these Second Coming/Hellbound crossovers are over and done. Someone let me know if/when that happens, please.

Boy, was I disappointed in the Valkyrie-in-Vegas issue. I thought the art was a poor match for the story, that the tale suffered by Dani's lack of interacting with more 'major' Asgardians (other than Hela, and Tyr- who's not really a player of note in *Marvel* Norse storytelling), and that it was somewhat of a downer that she left the story with, once again, no superpower- or, more importantly to me, no Brightwind (I think).
The Valkyrie predecessors- now cannibalistic savage monsters- were sort of interesting... and it looks like they're going to continue to be used in THOR. So that's to the good.
Hela in Vegas was fun- if underplayed. They really should've gone for her having to earn her way at some low-rent casino as a Vegas showgirl with racks (on her head and elsewhere...) to die for...
The more recent issue was an installment in SECOND COMING- and once again seemed to focus on characters who aren't NEW MUTANTS more than necessary. But at least our little team is taken seriously and given what seems to be a vital task-- one they handle well.
Magma is seriously underused... her power could've wiped out that smiley-face army easily. She *definitely* continues to get shortshrift-- which needs to be remedied.
Warlock/Cypher had a great scene against Cameron Hodge (wasn't it?), showing how effective that duo can be.
I really like this title from month to month, though I wish the New Mutants would be the out-and-out stars of the title 95% of the time-- with little-to-no Cyclops and/or Emma Frost.

Depending on how this goes, could be a good jumping off point for me. Or it could reaffirm my reasoning for collecting the title.

I bought, like, the first five issues of NM. Knowing it was about to tie-in to Nekrosha took me off the fence and caused me to stop buying. One thing the initial storyline had going for it was being self-contained, and I felt that was being discarded too soon. If it's all been leading to what that teaser implies, I'm really glad I didn't stick it out!
Of course, the last Fall of the Mutants had similar promo art as well, and it's body count was exaggerated....

Leonard Kirk? Good, I miss his artwork.
As long as this FALL OF thing isn't an X-over with umpteen mutants mags I don't give a rat's ass about (read: ANY of them), I'll get it.

I just hope Cyclops and Emma Frost stay out of the book for a good half-dozen issues or so. I'm *sick* of them horning in everywhere...

This isn't a crossover. It's a plot-line focusing on Illyana and the future she talked about in an earlier issue, IIRC. Also, those weird soldier guys who came out of limbo are in it. Leonard Kirk really seems to like these characters, and he talks somewhere about making them look more like themselves. Ah, found the article. It includes a drawing of the New Mutants by Kirk.

Not being a crossover hasn't kept Cyclops and Emma getting more lines and panel space than Sunspot or Magma. In NEW MUTANTS.
And what happened to the bickering with the youngest X-characters? I liked that as a minor component of the series.

Comics have lost their way. Compare the first 10 issues of this book against the first 10 of the original. Just make comics GOOD again. Is it THAT hard to do??

The latest issue of New Mutants shows the biggest trouble with crossovers. Sam is out of the book, 'Berto gets a couple of panels, and Cypher has a couple of panels. In their own book...
Just spouting off.

I know. I'm so sick of this crossover. I think I'm four issues behind on it now. (I did glance through the New Mutant issue, though.)

I'm updating this since I just bought New Mutants Classic Vol.1, and I intend to buy New Mutants Forever #1 next week.
...
I didn't say this before, since I've missed the last two new issues, but since I've been buying this series since it started, I cannot believe this Cannonball is the same kid with the square head and the big ears.

I blame Liefeld. Have you seen the latest issue? Sam looks like Sam again. (I'm still pretty ticked off about who he's kissing, though.)

New Mutants Classic Vol.1 has NO Liefeld art. I mean, that Sam grew up into that adult, the same way somebody would go "Oh my, is that little [insert name]. He got so big!"

Well if no one knew about Liefeld beforehand, they would just assume he just grew up.
