He did another mini-series "Trencher", I think. Anyone have this? Or a Keith Giffen Checklist?

I have all of Trencher, the issues from Image and the short from Blackball comics. Don't like the art as much as on other Giffen books, and its much more in the darkly humorous ultra-violence vein [ala Lobo] than, say, something like PunX. There used to be a Keith Giffen checklist online somewhere, I'd helped add a few entries on it way back in my rec.arts.comics.* days, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Oh wait silly me, here it is: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~Sdarrens/giffenbib.html

Giffen's issues were the latter issues and were really close to his "Defenders" style in my eyes...

Nope its Keith Giffen that I remember, I checked it out when I sent the info into the Keith Giffen checklist [Giffen did pencils on 83-87]; dunno who inked him though, maybe that explains the Neil Adams look.
But what I remember being particularly Adams-esque was in 83(?) where Prof jumps into the water from the copter/plane/flyingthingy. I think it was 83 because that's also the first one with Swamp Thing in it, and I believe that story is also the issue where Prof dies for awhile.

Those CHALLS issues are at my Mom's in the "I won't sell these" box (I really *do* need to bring that box on home) so I will check 'em out when I'm over there next.
Dunno who inked the earlier Giffen issues of CHALLS but I remember the last couple of issues (featuring iirc Rip Hunter as well as Swamp Thing) having that distinct early-Giffen *zing* to the artwork, and in no way looking Adams-esque.
The answers lie in the "I won't sell" box! I'll post as soon as I can look at 'em!

They're at my Mom's somewhere, I'll dig 'em up. I don't remember liking them very much, but that may have been because Giffen was using that really LOOSE art-style that was always my least favorite of his styles. I much prefer the "heaviness" of his art style in PunX and the Ambush Bug stuff...

Okay, let me know. My challs issues are in one of 25-30 something boxes in my basement. If I get the time to look through them I will, just don't count on it. I used to be a big time Challs fan ever since I read the 60s issue where they fought a giant sponge man, so when I saw those 70s issues at a used book store years after they came out, I leapt on them but haven't read them in years. So maybe my memory is faulty...

...however I also might be remembering issue #81 with the Multiple Man cover which is definately a Mike Nassar one. :|

Question on Legion 31, is Keith doing solely artwork?

Igee, we really need to check with Oracle Lad to be 100% sure, but I think I did hear Giffen's issue will be with his ARTWORK only.
But I won't be surprised if he manages to sneak in some fun Legion "easter eggs" somewhere...

I remember liking Trencher a little bit, although no where near as much as his DC stuff. I don't know if this was do the fact that almost all of Image's stuff at the time pretty much sucked and this was just the best one, or if I was just craving something by Giffen.

My sources say that Keith is only doing the artwork for the issue. But Keith is known sneak in little surprises. We won't really know until the issue comes out.

Thanks for the info! I just hope his art's not gonna be all trencher-like. I'd much prefer the loose lines and Botox'd lips... ;-)

His most recent work on DOMINION was very reminiscent of his TMK Legion style.

His Saturn Queen in Who's Who in the Legion was lip-alicious!

From the preview to Legion 31, looks like we'll get our Giffen-dose of lips...it's like they're perpetually puckered!

I'm at Moms!
Amen, I've dug out the Challs issues. They are:
# 81-- art by Nasser & Wiacek
# 82-- art by Nasser & Rubinstein
# 83 through 87-- art by Keith Giffen & John Celardo (whoever that is).
If anything, the Giffen art has a distinct Jack Kirby flavor with that healthy dash of Giffen zing-- much like his DEFENDERS # 48-50! I'm gonna go ahead and take these issues home!

There was a return of the Defenders storyline which ran through all of the Defenders-related Marvel annuals in 1992, and Kevin Maguire drew the first part, which was in the Hulk annual. The four main guys were there, and it was written by Peter David, so as far as comedy and wise-cracking go, that's pretty close to Giffen.
Personally, I hope that they don't turn the Defenders into a joke. Larsen and Busiek tried it, and failed miserably. Those four characters are great separately - why should they be lame when put together?

Hmm, well I must have been remembering 81 rather than 83. I know we had both as kids [me and my brothers shared comics at the time, although all the challs stuff has found their way into my collection...heh-heh-heh]

Markisan Naso is keeping the rumor going in his latest All The Rage column at Silver Bullet Comicbooks : I hear that the Formerly Known as the Justice League team of Kieth Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, Kevin Maguire and Joe Rubenstein are going to do a new Defenders book for Marvel.
Sources say a gag order has been issued by the House of Ideas. No big surprise there.

I'm a-getting the feeling this is a-gonna be hap'nin!
My **only** hang-up about it is it could interfere with Maguire doing art for another FKAJL mini...

I'm really looking forward to this if it happens. Giffen has been on a roll since FKAJL came out, I don't want it to stop.
