My real introduction to DC's characters was through Super Friends. I guess without Hanna and Barbera I wouldn't be here now.

RIP

The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

When, in regard to his cartoons, he said
“The way to appreciate them is to see them.”
he summed it up perfectly.
As long as we - and the following generations - have the cartoons our world will be a better place.

What a career they had. SO many wonderful memories from my childhood are thanks to these two men. The Flintstones & The Jetsons, Johnny Quest, Tom & Jerry, Huckleberry Hound & Yogi Bear...wow!

Rest in Peace and thank you.

Holy moley! That's a long list! And so many wonderful memories on it.

I met Joe Barbera when he was in town about 8 years ago to do signings at an animation gallery. I bought a Scooby-Doo cel and wrote an article about the event for the paper. He signed one of his business cards and gave it to me when I interviewed him. He said if I ever wanted a tour of H-B studios, all I had to do was present it at the door. I never got to take him up on the offer.

He was such a sweet and genuine guy, in addition to being such an immense talent. Sure, Disney is more high-brow and classic WB had higher production quality, but animation wouldn't be where it is today without H-B.

This is definitely the end of an era. R.I.P.

Being a child of the late 70s and early 80s, I tend to gravitate toward the H-B shows that never quite became household names* -- Dynomutt, Jabberjaw, The New Shmoo, Drak Pack, and my favorite, Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels (I so want that one on DVD).

*The exception is the various versions of Superfriends, except the last one, which I've heard is the best (and tvshowsondvd posted an interview with people from Warner Home Video where they said they do have plans to release the 80s Superfriends. Yay!)
