Wow, cant believe i didn't see this happening last year and this. 'Course, it was kinda hectic on my end, lol. Anyway, i will be seeing if i can find the tpb's of this. The guys here have very discerning tastes, and from what little of the previews i saw here, it looks very good.

Hope you won on your nomination by the way. If not, i didn't type this. wink

What else ya' got coming up? Your colors always stand out to me. Beautiful work.

Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!

Jillikers, how did I miss this?!

*choke*

If you just happen to have one lying around and desperately need to make room on your coffee table, I'll take one Ronda! laugh smile

If not, I'll hunt one down at the CBR, since I've been doing a lot of that lately. I'm a big fan of the 'every present I buy someone at Christmas, I buy an extra comic for myself' idea (which incidently, I just made up).

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOkay. "Came to the party" is my theme for today, as I finally--FINALLY--got around to checking out Atomic Robo. Long story short, 2008 was a pretty busy and at times sucky year, and I was lax at expanding and enjoying my comic book hobby. That all changed in the final months of the year and now I'm trying to check out everything I always wanted to.

So I missed out on the first AR mini-series, but hopefully will be able to hunt that down. Either via TPB or with actual issues, as I'd prefer to do right now I think.

But I did pick up #1 of the second mini and it was pretty cool! Very fun! Its coincidentally happening when I'm on a bit of war comic kick, so that also heightens my enjoyment, and I of course love the 'advanced science of the WWII era' high concept, so that is cool too.

A fun, cool series.

And of course I must say the coloring is quite genius and awesome, Ronda!

I'll be sticking around for the long run now, to pick up new issus and hunt for the last mini-series.

SHADOW #1 was excellent all-around! Brian C's explanation for the Tungusten event was inventive and interesting in how it tied together such disparate historical figures as Tesla, Lovecraft and... that other guy, whoever he was. hug

I figure Robo either pulled off a nifty escape, or he gets rebuilt by Tesla, like the Metal Men were always getting rebuilt. Odds on the first option.

It was sort of funny to see him treated like a teenager. I can't think of any other robots who "age".

I've finally caught up on the latest Atomic Robo mini, Shadow from Beyond Time. Wow, I've got to say, this series has really picked up even more! I never read the first series yet, and I liked the second, but the third one is even more fun than the second.

One of the things that captured my interest immediately was the idea of Robo being alive for 80+ years, and this mini really captures that, giving us different time periods each issue. The idea in #3 of Robo trying to halt the coming arms race before it really gets underway is fascinating with hints of tragedy since he obviously is unable to do so.

This series just has everyhing: awesome lead, fun as all hell, crazy science, cool appearances by real life people like Tesla and HP Lovecraft, and one of the great colorists in comics!

Robo SBT#4 was awesome for so many reasons... Sagan, and Robo's interaction with him, was awesome lol But I really love the final splash page... sets up next issue's denouement very nicely! Awesome job by everyone involved!

I've got to say, the conclusion to Atomic Robo SBT is one of the most satisfying and fun I've seen in a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed this mini-series!

The way the meeting of the various Robos was handled was complicated yet simplistically laid out to the readers--and made it incredibly fun to read.

Pov & others--dude, post some thoughts on the FCBD issue and the latest mini!

Vol. 4 #3 features "Why Dr. Dinosaur hates Atomic Robo" and is one of the grooviest stories I've read in awhile. Dr. Dinosaur might just be my new favorite comic book villain! Absolutely hilarious and I immediately want an ongoing bi-weekly Dr. Dinosaur series focusing on every aspect of his daily routine. He should be totally battling the Heckler and Ambush Bug!

What's great about Atomic Robo is every issue stands alone as well as being part of a larger miniseries. So you don't need to pick up #1, you can just pick up any issue off the stands.

I never got the FCBD ish, but v4#3 had sooo many great bits of dialogue I've been too busy rereading it to post about it here. LoveloveLOVE Robo!

"That is for me to know and for you to die!"

"That's not even a sentence."

"The simple mammalian subject and predicate were both represented! I challenge your claim."

lol

You've gotta post the panels side by side!

Brilliant! Could this comic be any cooler?

Groovy article on usage of time travel in Atomic Robo: the Shadow Beyond Time!

I actually brought this on vacation and got the tri-fecta to read it: both brothers and my sister, and they all loved it! Each one is harder and harder to sell comics on, preferring every single comic have the level of quality that Sandman has. They were all very impressed.

Great article on Atomic Robo artist Scott Wegener! In it he also has huge compliments for Eisner-nominated colorist, Ronda Pattison, who cool LWers know is a big part of the LW community.

When I was on vacation a few weeks ago, I had my brothrs & sister check out Atomic Robo--and they absolutely LOVED IT. I had them read "Shadow Beyond Time" because its my favorite, and they want to read more. While one brother is pretty into comics in general, the other two siblings only have really ever read Sandman, Preacher, and some other "best of the best" selections, so their endorsement is a good one!

Atomic Robo’s latest series (after reading #2) continues to remind why Atomic Robo is simply one of the best comic books on the market these days. It’s so far beyond the vast majority of the market that it’s almost criminal so many still haven’t jumped on board!

This latest miniseries takes place during one of my favorite times in Robo’s history, when Tesla was still alive and Robo was still relatively young & fresh. It just so happens to coincide with the golden age of American organized crime *and* the pulp era of fiction, so that makes for some pretty awesome Atomic Robo stories set in a pulp / sci-fi background. The creative team delivers exactly that, introducing a pulp hero known as Jack Tarot, who is as cool as you think he’ll be (complete with his daughter as a trusty helper, who happens to be sweet on Robo). I actually wouldn’t mind a Jack Tarot miniseries!

I like how this issue subtly addressed the origins of the vampire dimension too, which was a dangling plotline from the last miniseries. The creators continually tie things together like that so well.

The creative team of Brian Clevinger, Scott Wegener and Ronda Pattison is firing on all cylinders at this point. The original Robot miniseries was utterly fantastic and they’ve only gotten better since. This is a 5 out of 5 review, the highest recommendation I can give, and anyone who complains about modern comics is a bull-faced hypocrite if they haven’t tried this title.
