Got mine (I think) but I haven't even had time to open the DCBS boxes for the last few weeks. Doesn't look like I will either until a week from this coming Monday. But I will post a pic with the tee and book. Caroline has volunteered to take it.

Thx Pov - the CBS has reserved one of the next batch of #1s for me - and succeeding issues. They seemed kinda surprised that it had sold out so quickly. Word must have gotten around!

Ronda, you guys are putting out my favorite book right now. Honestly. Knocked The Walking Dead down a notch. Just absolute fun, something the market, and I, needed. Thanks!

Thank you so much guys! I think that's what I love about it too: it's just plain good fun, and there aren't many comics like that out there any more. The script always has something to make me laugh, and Scott Wegener's art is deceptively simple. It might seem cartoonish at a glance, but he has such a gift for body language and facial expression, you almost don't need words to follow the story! If anyone is interested, Heavy Ink is interviewing Brian Clevinger (writer) and Scott Wegener (artist), and is inviting people to submit any questions they'd like to ask.

Issue #4 was another winner.
Funniest book I read this month. I nearly choked on my soda when I got to the payoff of the space trip.

I've read the first 2 issues now, and wow, it's just soooo good. The whole creative team accomplishes so much in such an economical way. It's not minimalist, because there's so much depth and subtext, but it's...I don't know, efficient. The first issue blew me away, the manner in which Scott introduced the whole vril/coming race/NAZI thing in a few lines of dialogue. You can't even call it exposition. And the page between Robo and the Army dude. The dialogue, lines and color all create this rich mood that tells so much story in such a brief way. And I loved, loved, loved the scientists bickering while Robo fights the giant ants. The bit about cars being the accepted weapon of choice for smashing giant bugs was amazing. You'd think at first blush this kind of scripting would be too arch and postmodern, bordering on cynical, and yet it somehow comes off as pure and refreshing. I think maybe because Robo himself really is such an authentic character. Ronda, the color work is just outstanding. Do you use a "historical pallate" when doing the scenes in the past? It's nothing short of stunning when you think about how far comics coloring has really come in the last 20 years, even the last 10. I'm so grateful your participation on this board led me to pick up this book. I am terrible about seeking out "independent" books, but this has been a big plus.

Well it's been a while since I plugged this book; time for an update! Thank you to everyone who's read it for their support and positive responses. I do believe there is something really special about this little book. Issue #5 (of 6) will be in stores next week. All the reviews of the title have been almost entirely positive so far, many of them glowing! This one is a new favorite: http://www.rackraids.com/?p=1329 We have been green lit for Volume 2! Also, there will be a TPB of Volume 1. And look for a Robo story in a FCBD anthology from Red5 Comics.

Doublechinner:
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful "review". I have passed it on to creators Scott and Brian.
I do do a lot of research to make sure I'm using accurate colors. For the WWII scenes I also desaturated the colors and added a grainy texture to identify the flashbacks. The original idea was for those scenes to suggest gun camera footage. I don't think that idea is very obvious, but those scenes do have their own feel, which is the important thing.

Scott W. mentioned on his blog that he's finished the art for the AR FCBD story and is starting on the art for AR vol2#1. Yay!

Does everybody else here read Russian? Did I miss the footnotes somewhere? I suppose Rasputin was just saying some variation of "Die Robo!"
It's impossible, but after reading #4, I was thinking how great it would be to have an Atomic Robo/Planetary crossover.

From the FCBD website:
ATOMIC ROBO & FRIENDS—FCBD 2008 EDITION
by Various
Beloved Atomic Robo is back! It's 1961 and the Russians have built a bomb capable of destroying the whole planet. Only Atomic Robo can enter the heart of Communist Siberia and take on deadly Combots to save freedom! An all-new 16-page adventure by Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener! Then, in an all-new Neozoic adventure illustrated by J. Korim and Jessie Lam, a telikos — the world's largest meat-eating dinosaur — is snacking on the PDL horses... and protege dino-hunter Lilli Murko doesn’t like that one bit! Plus, catch a glimpse forward at 2008 adventures of Red 5 favorites and new faces!
They also have a pic of the cover, in the Silver sponsors section, about 2/3 of the way down the page.

Ronda,
Issue 4 was just...glorious. I never imagined anyone shared my conviction that Carl Sagan and Steven Hawking would make great comic characters! Seriously, I was laughing so hard I woke up my wife. I so glad you all worked in Thomas Edison's vendetta against Nicola Tesla, too. I am in awe of this creative team. Either you're all polymath brilliant, know a lot of trivia, or fake it like master con artists.
It's taken me awhile to figure out what Robo really is: He's a machine soul. He doesn't die, but he doesn't have an off switch, either. He clearly has feelings, ambitions, he experiences boredom, but he's metallic. He's NOT Pinocchio, he's NOT Data, he's NOT that annoying Sixth Sense kid in "AI: Artificial Intelligence." He's a learning, thinking, feeling, adventurous machine. That rocks.
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

Ronda, any word yet on a trade? I'd love a copy for my bookshelf to go along with the individual floppies.
