I noticed the Question is definitely being influenced by his depiction in "JLU". I think I prefer this to the more zen-like approach, partly because nobody else would be able to do it as convinvingly as O'Neil and the Randian version was a bit too abrasive. This version seems more open for writers to be able to have fun with (he still needs his hat though...)

I thought #4 was the weakest issue so far. Not bad or anything... it's just nothing really excited me about it.

52 #4 is out.
Halo is in space with some astronuats, looking for the space-faring heroes from IC. She's been mumbling about a lightning bolt not being able to hit. When asked about it, she mentions "communing" with a Zeta beam that can't find it's mark. She eventually coaxes it to land in Australia, bringing with it some of the wayward heroes.
Not so much on the Ralph dibny story this week. He talks with WG and her cult. She explains that one of them, Dev, mentions an old Kryptonian legend about bathing in a river and getting visions. Ralph gives it a try.
Booster has a chat with Fire about the missing heroes. She invites him to help, he declines. She calls him selfish, and he explains that after getting kicked around for trying to be a hero all this time, he's finally doing something for him.
Renee and the Question get most of the time here. She's been watching the shack on Kane St for the last three weeks. Nothing of note while she complains. She badmouths the Question, who makes some witty remarks. When she finally does see someone enter the shack, she follows. The Question joins her and they scuffle with a big monster (nothing like shown on the cover.) After getting knocked around, she finds some alien weaponry stored in the shack and uses some pistol to bring down the beast.
The art has been great. I'm glad to see Bennett getting this high profile attention. He'll bring a lot of readers when he comes back to the Hawk-book. (crosses fingers)
This issue was more talk than anything. It advanced a few plots, but the excitement level was low. Understandable, since there needs to be exposition. Still, next week's will be much more exciting, just based on the last page of this week.
Just spouting off.

Nice analysis CJ! It was cool to see Halo, Geo-Force and the Challengers here (that was them with Halo I believe).

Cobie,
I thought it was the Chall's too. So it HAD to be them, right?
You guys forgot about the Steel spread. Something else else is happening here, was it contact from a certain Luthor? Or could SunDoller's coffee be at the heart of these.
I also expect to find that Progene Tech is the one behind the resurrection cult and they are the ones kidnapping the scientists.

52 WEEK #4
The Superboy cult is seriously creepy. Frankly, the fact that Wonder Girl gets caught up in it at all brings my estimation of her down a notch or two. Now, if she's *infiltrating*, I'll think again. Devem certainly arouses my curiosity. He *did* originally debut as a bit of a bad guy, remember.
I don't get why DC is sticking Donna in this role. She's *not* a solitary character. She's at her best when surrounded by people she can nurture. Is that too 'feminine' a quality to foster in a hero? I don't think so, but possibly DC does. Too bad. Her little space team had *such* potential, which has been all but squandered. I guess some flashback tales could remedy things, somewhat.
I *so* misread what the HISTORY back-ups were intended to be. They're 'catch-up' for whatever readers jumped on board with IC and have remained for 52. They're not meant to showcase what's new and different about the revised DC Earth we'll be reading about. Will the origins that succeed this back-up be more of that? I hope not.

I've got to say that there were a lot of interesting turns in the story. But suddenly shifting gears to these folks were a bit jarring and I felt disrupted the stories I am invested in.
Still five issues in and it's a HELL of a lot better than IC ever was.
Click Here For A SpoilerLuthor has isolated the Metagene? Wow.....big reveal/hint here, I think.
And I love how Buddy completely ignores that Kori is stark naked taking a bath right in front of him. You go Buddy!

What I found interesting is that there is no mention of Donna Troy or Hawkman. Where did they go?

52 WEEK #5

Finally, the wasted potential of Donna's space team begins to be addressed. This storyline is one I've been anticipating since she started gathering heroes almost a year ago (our time). Too bad whatever story there is will be told in flashback, and will be more of a 'what happened after' sort of deal. Whatever, I hope the stranded trio all make it back to newEarth alive. I doubt my hopes will be met, however.
I'm curious about Steel's changes and I appreciate Montoya's storyline. Booster Gold bores me. Shouldn't his LSH flight ring have all the snazzy, new upgrades featured in the current title? Or is he too dumb to access them? I miss Ralph's story- I'm *very* curious to see where it's going. We see now that the six 'main' characters aren't necessarily going to dominate every issue. That's a good thing, as the unexplored characters and corners of the DC universe are the ones I most want to read about.
Donna's little back-up plugs along in a familiar fashion, though there's now a mystery about how she transitions from Harbinger on New Chronus to her appearance in another title this month.

Just an example of comics making it mainstream...
MSN is reporting that ranking Al Quida member Al-Zarqawi lived 52 minutes after the airstrike that killed him.

So, enough with the Civil War spoilers. I want some info about a series I'm actually reading. What happened in 52, Week 6?

They are setting up Booster for a big fall, I think. It's mostly him and Skeets with a small spotlight on Magnus/Morrow.
John and Hal take on the new Chinese heroes.....interesting but not sure how it ties into the rest.
Click Here For A SpoilerBooster discovers Rip Hunter's base of operations only to find a destroyed time sphere and all kinds of notes/scribbles. But basically, Rip think Booster is to blame for time being "Broken".
And for some weird reason, I started wondering if the guy kidnapping the scientist is Egg Fu....

That chalkboard has to contain clues about the story to come.
Legion fans take note, there's a quote on there Click Here For A SpoilerDead by Lead? that probably refers to a character we've heard discussed.
So it's clear that 52 isn't just the title, there's a specific event or group in the story going by that name.

I can imagine Rip Hunter's scribbles being speculated upon as much as that diagram on the hatch blast door from "Lost" (the fact that there's a counter in Hunter's bunker with "00:52" on it doesn't help )-- lots of interesting things there.
I have no idea where Luthor's discovery with the metagene is going to go, but from the One Year Later books, it doesn't look like it's changed the world all that much. (has it been mentioned in any 1YL books?)
With Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman as well as The Flash, Hawkman, The Atom, Aquaman, J'onn J'onnz and Captain Marvel out of sight during "52" (so far), I'm disappointed that Green Lantern hasn't gained more prominance. That's just me because I'm a big Hal fan, but he's the biggest big gun currently active during this time and this appearance did nothing to show that.
