From Mewsarama and Didio (exerpt):
NRAMA: Okay, the series’ main cast has now been revealed. In “Lightning Round” fashion, we’re going to throw out a name and give us a quick response about their role in 52 and/or their future……

The Question?

DD: Sets up shop in Gotham filling a major void.

NRAMA: Elongated Man?

DD: Rethinking his place in the DC universe

NRAMA: Booster Gold?

DD: Learns the true meaning of commercialism.

NRAMA: Black Adam?

DD: Finds a place he can call home.

NRAMA: Renee Montoya?

DD: Deals with more questions than answers,

NRAMA: Steel (John Henry Irons)?

DD: Sets out to prove the true mettle of a man.

THE QUESTION!?!? -- *YES!!!!* Love the Question! I literally sat up in my seat when I read that. If ever I had any doubts about buying this, they just went right out the window. I'm totally psyched about this now!

Newsarama also has some minor spoilers about the future and intriguing hints.

Aren't most of the characters involved in 52 supposed to die by the end? Thus the reason we don't see them one year later.

I think they've only copped to *one* of the 52 characters dying-- not positive they used the word 'dying', either.

I recall that the characters featured were supposed to encompass all the corners of the DCU. This list seems pretty Batman/Superman-centric, to me.

Who ties into the Titans, magical characters (Black Adam?), international characters, Amazons, undersea realms, Legion (Booster Gold? Gag, I hope not), outer space, etc.?

Comprising half the list, there's way too much focus on Gotham City and Metropolis.

I took that interview to be more tongue-in-cheek than an accurate accounting of characters.

Say it aint so! I dunno -- there could be a bunch of reasons why we won't see them in other titles during 52*. Mostly that they're B-listers who most people wouldn't miss anyway if they dropped out of sight for a year. I'm holding out hope that Vic makes the cut and won't be on the chopping block.

"Special low price" of $2.50 ($130)?

Gag.

My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

It'll only be a maximum of $1.50/issue for me with my discount (possibly even cheaper for the first issue or two) so I'm in. I've paid more for worse.

I can agree that a $2.50 price shouldn't be touted as "special"-- let's reserve that for $1.99-or-less books, please-- but it *IS* nice they resisted the ludicrous $2.99 price tag that's all the rage nowadays.

OTOH, I may have to rethink buying this anyway. I have absolutely no prior experience with this Montoya character, nor am I gripped by any strong urge to.

This just dropped from "MUST BUY" to "6 issue trial".

Anyone else think Black Adam aka Teth-Adam well replace Shazam in the Rock of Eternity?

Atleast by Dan Didio's clue I am guessing that.

Not thrilled with the price, but I suppose if it were $1 a copy, the quality would really suffer. It will really depend on the interest level of the stories - so I'm in for a 6-issue trial as well. It's pretty hard to turn my back on anything with The Question.

What are the odds are of DC maintaining that weekly schedule? They should publish the marketing post-mortem - I'd buy that for sure!

Hey, I was able to keep up with the Infinite Crisis preludes at about one issue a week. I can keep up with this. I spend my money on good comics, and if I get 52 issues in a year instead of 52 issues over the course of maybe 5 years, I'm in. Nevermind that it's like, going to be a key part of the DCU (in one manner of speaking, the only part of the DCU). And you know, I imagine when it's over, there'll be a monthly continuation of it.

Unless they have the first three months already in the bag, I give it maybe three months.

Of course, with the "special low price" of $2.50 an issue, that pretty much guarantees I won't be getting it. I was planning on at least checking it out, but I don't care about any of those characters, and I'd rather save the cash.

I'll most likely pick up a couple of issues, just to see what it is. However, depending on who is involved, I probably will end up flipping through issues at the comic shop and only buying ones that interest me. I'm not willing to spend $130 based only on the characters I've heard mentioned so far.

With preordering, I'd be committing to 8 to 12 issues before I even see this, but Scott's right that we'll probably see a further 1st ish discount to our regular 40% ($1.50 ea. ) with DCBS. And $80 for the run of 52 is basically an extra month's order for me.

I wish I was collecting Cable & Deadpool so I could drop it for this... tongue wink

Seriously, I get 20 to 26 books a month not counting digests & trades. This is like getting 2 months extra in books for less than the price of 1.

I should probably just hold off and wait for the 2007 trade.

But I probably won't.

The Pulse is reporting that Chris Batista has been added to the artists working on 52; he starts with issue #5. cool

I liked Montoya before the Gotham Central series. I don't care for the direction they took her. This new direction for her would actually catch my interest.

As for 52, I'll be picking it up each week. It's not a bad deal really; each issue only costs 25 Ramen noodle soups.
