Did anyone else get this? It was a great first issue. Man did a lot of stuff happened!
Click Here For A Spoiler The new force of July is called Freedom Rings. Monolith is in the issue. We get a new Firebrand. We meet Father Time and the begining of the new Freedom Force. And we get the retun of the Atomic Knights? Now that came out of left field for me.

actually the last time we saw A**** K***** was in Outsiders series.
Freedom Rings do not mean anything that related to gay freedom?
anyway, can't wait to pick it up soon.

This series totally lost all interest for me once I learned that the Ray in the Freedom Fighters miniseries to follow isn't Ray Terrill at all - if you can believe Dan Didio. I'll get the next issue to see how it goes, but I'm not sold on this one at all.

I'm also pissed that Ray Terrill isn't the Ray.
But Father Time? That's pretty cool! I've only just learned the extent of the Quality cadre of characters, so I wonder what other concepts might be revived.

Guys, you forgot this:
Click Here For A SpoilerWe see the new Human Bomb as a result of government testing and the radiation from the Chemo Drop.
And it was great to see the new heroes, specifically, F*********. Always was a fave but I wished they had kept aspects of the original costume.

I finally just read this and I think its really pretty cool! There's a lot going on and different concepts being shown all over.
So we've got Firebrand/Monolith/protesters outside the walls, villains breaking into Bludhaven, the Force of July (suddenly can't remember their new name) patrolling the streets, heroes attempting to help, Father Time arriving to take control of the military operation, radioactive citizens of Bludhaven about to become the new Freedom Force, the [new] Atomic Knights appearing...I feel like I'm out of breath!
Re: the Force of July people. Are they all new? Also, did it look like all but Major Victory were dead by the end of this issue?
Graypal kicked ass on this issue and you could just feel Grant Morrison's hand on this in the background. Very cool.

I liked this issue quite a bit. Firebrand and the Atomic Knights were pleasant surprises. I'm not too upset about The Ray substitute yet-- let's see whether what happens in IC #7 changes that.
I kind of think that when Uncle Sam shows, he'll be tailoring the group more to his liking. Or he'll lead a group that opposes it. I'm betting Ray Terrill will be included. Eventually.
Wonder if an Atomic Knight or two will be in the new Freedom Fighters? Or whoever's left breathing from Freedom's Ring?
So, Father Time *is* an old Quality or DC character, then? I couldn't find anything in a brief search. If so, coolio-- a nice continuation of what the writers did in HAWKMAN with the GA Hawk-villains (though I still wish they'd included that centaur that lived in a volcano!!!). I thought an updated Firebrand (miss the puffy sleeves) and Atomic Knights were the nods to the past.

i know nothing about the atomic knights but i thought some of the insignias on their armor was reminiscent of the legion monitor board sysmbols. lightning lad, saturn girl, kid quantum, and a bit of a streatch polar boy.

Father Time appeared in Seven Soldiers : Frankenstein #3 as a bald-headed black guy! Don't know how he's suddenly switched to a long, white-haired white guy but I'm hoping there's a better reason than artistic error.

I have a feeling that Father Time will end up being one of those beings (like Uncle Sam) that really has no actual 'look', but changes his form all the time. In other words, he is beyond 'having a look'.
I feel like this is Morrison's interpretation of the New Gods too. Its all in how we (normal humans) percieve them.

Can one of the moderators put 'Ray fans check here' in the thread title for a few weeks? For Wayne Click Here For A SpoilerSo here's what the latest rumors are, and we'll nkow soon enough. These 'new' Freedom Fighters are really nothing more than government mercenaries right now...but Uncle Sam is preparing to make his return and reclaim the 'Freedom Fighters' moniker as a pro-civil liberties/anti-oppression group. This will take place both here (initially) and then 'Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters'. It will be very political, and the new Firebrand will come into play, etc., etc. BUT, more importantly, the rumor is that when Uncle Sam reappears he'll have his own group helping him, and its there that Ray Terrill will be found, reclaiming the mantle of the Ray (and battling the new Ray). Somebody on Newsarama passed this on to me, so take it for what its worth, but it sounds kinda cool...

I only read through the first page of discussion over at Newsarama, but there didn't seem to be many positive comments posted so far regarding the Freedom Fighters preview. Of course, it's hard to just the value of an entire issue based solely on the first few pages, not that people don't do that all the time

Something else else about comics fans and the internet.

#4's out!
Loved the cover! Particularly Robin and Dream Girl- oops- I mean Wonder Girl. Not so wild about Kid Devil there, but he's new.
The Nucleur Family! I'd all but forgotten about them! It was fun being reintroduced to their unique family dynamic.
I like large casts, but this *is* getting a bit crowded. Whoops! There goes another Lady Liberty... so not *quite* as crowded. Guess there's a replacement waiting in the wings.
We know Phantom Lady and the Human Bomb wind up in FREEDOM FIGHTERS (at least, I *think* we do). Who else should make the cut?
I'd pick Monolith over Big Foot. One surviving Atomic Knight. The Ray (the *real* one, as in Ray Terrill, but apparently that's not an option). Firebrand. The next Lady Liberty, perhaps? Major Victory?
I'm still curious about Father Time. Hope we get more of an idea about what he's really up to before this mini ends.
What do you think of this trend of mini-series leading into more mini-series? I'm of mixed opinion.
