They're modelling their universe after Crapuation Day, with Plot Hammering galore.

What do you think?

Well, the latest issues of Blue Beetle have been pretty good!

Cool Superman appearance, but the next issue with Traci 13 and Eclipso was even better. The writer seems very aware of how this new Blue Beetle has come into being, and pays outright respect to Ted Kord, and the next issue to Ralph and Sue Dibny with a heart-breaking scene with Traci. I love the idea of the Detectives all having a little group, which floats over from 52.

Jaime has gotten more interesting, as have Paco and the rest of his cast. The potential is definately there.

All that said, I don't know how long this title will last. History suggests otherwise, but we'll see if it can make it to the 40's. Jaime having a mother and father generally means that (1) they'll be murdered, (2) he'll have to graduate and move on to college or (3) people won't find it as compelling. Not saying its 'right', just its what generally has happened to comic books.

I was laughing like a hyena throughout the last issue.

"Say 'I wish for a Porsche' before it wears off!"

This title might, in my opinion at least, sometimes slack off a bit in the story department, but I usually don't even mind these instances since its protagonists are so well-developed and likeable and the whole thing is so adorably wacky. I mean, motherbox mishaps, attack penguins and, most of all, the glories of a career in the dental profession - what else could you wish to read of?

This title shows how to write snappy dialogue without hindering any emotional moments with it. Albuquerque's art is also great; I especially liked that look of happy cluelessness on the baby this issue.

Let's hope DC's being daringly different for once and won't have Jaime suffer through their usual repertoire of 'edgy, realistic' calamities, and that this title stays around as long as possible.

The dentist moment was absolutely hysterical and caught me off guard enough to garner an actual laugh. It really felt like a Buffy/Joss Whedon moment when he's 'on the money'.

I agree about dialogue and art. Its hit its stride and really fits with the title, giving it a unique voice.

Lol, it's funny reading old threads. Wasn't planning to pick up BB but heard good things about it and picked up issue 14, and the trades, and now its on my pull list.

This is just a really enjoyable comic. Jamie and gang are funny and likable (which is more than I can say about certain characters) and the adventures are just fun and wacky. I really hope DC doesn't do anything bad to poor ol Jamie, I think he really does work as the average kid without issues.

Good stuff.

This has been on my pull list since the first issue and I must say, I've really enjoyed it. The characters are all well developed and seem really believable. Jaime's sister's reaction to him becoming Blue Beetle that first time at home was perfect (and him getting in trouble for scaring her is exactly what I imagine would have happened had this been someone in my family laugh )

There were a few rough moments early on but I think this title has begun to hit its stride and I look forward to each issue to see what happens next.

The latest issue was pretty funny as others have commented. I hope the creative team is able to keep this going for a long time.

Anyone know how well this is selling?

I was buying this one from the start and yeah, it did have its cool and funny moments, but...
After DC's treatment of Bart Allen, I don't have it in me to support another new young hero. What, I buy another 5 years of comics to get a crapulent editorial mess and a savage death instead of a resolution? I don't think so. wink
I just wish there was some way to really let the editors know how they're totally turning me off comics at the moment. At that hurts, as I really love comics! I guess cancelling titles is the only way to go about it, even if it is a totally mixed message at times.

Issue 17 was outstanding! If you haven't given this title a chance, this is a great issue to pick up for a taste. Jaime is really coming into his own as a superhero and showing that he is resourceful and intelligent.

All the Ted Kord fans (and I count myself as one) will appreciate the reverence with which he is treated in this series. Kudos to the creative team for that and for some compelling and emotional writing.

Pick it up and give it a try. This issue brought tears to my eyes and it will to you as well.

I didn't see any Blue Beetle threads--sorry if I missed it--but I think the John Rogers series is one of the best monthlies currently published by DC. It's pretty great.

I'm also a fan of most other Blue Beetle action, so let's talk about the old stuff too!

I have to catch up with the new Blue Beetle. I read the first 10 issues or so but haven't caught up. I read a friend's copies.

I'm a hardcore fan of Ted Kord! Doesn't mean I don't like the original or the latest.

I will try to catch up with Blue Beetle and post my thoughts when I do.

I've been extolling the virtues of the new BB series since it's launch. The writing has been impressive and the characters likable (even Peacemaker!) I'm particularly impressed with the nods given to Garrett and Kord throughout the series. Great care has been given to recognizing the improtance of their stints as Blue Beetles as well.

Glad to see that there are other fans around. I would hate to see this title dropped.

I've been enjoying it too. My comments are elsewhere on this board (pretty sure there's a thread for Blue Beetle somewhere around here), but I'll echo some previous thoughts: love the supporting cast, love the sense of fun, and I especially love the respect and homage show to Ted Kord. That last thing is something both Blue Beetle and Atom have gotten right, which they absolutely need to do in order to survive (opposed to the treatment of Hal to lead to Kyle).

This isn't a perfect title, but its continually improving and seems to be picking up steam. What it really needs now are some new and recurring antagonists (multiple ones, not just La Dama).

Loving what they've done with Peacemaker. Break-out supporting character of the year.

So I'm catching up on 4 weeks of comics and the surprise of the month so far? Blue Beetle. Read the latest, #24, and it was hands down the best issue so far, and one of the best any company had to offer in the last four weeks!

Very nicely done! It was super-hero comics as I remember them back when I could rely on solid super-hero storylines. Great wrap-up to the huge plot, Jamie Reyes shines and the Scarab finally starts making sense and acting cool, the supporting cast have great moments (really enjoying Paco, Brenda, Peacemaker and Jamie's parents), and it had some really great action and tension, which I sometimes think comics have forgotten how to do.

Plus, it had what I consider the greatest entrance of Guy Gardner ever. Guy has come a long way these past few years (making me a full-time fan in the process) and he shined here.

But even more, so did Booster, Ice and Fire. Seeing all four of them with Jamie was great. The spirit of Ted had never once left this comic and it was seen here, both with that reunion and in Jamie's battle on the Reach mothership.

For those of you mourning the loss of Blue Beetle's monthly, Dan Didio just announced it's returning as a back up in Booster Gold this summer.

Here's hoping Matt Sturgis is still writing it.

I like this co feature they are doing. It's a bump in price, but the feature will be additional pages and not taking away from the main focus.
