Uncle Sam recruited (I believe) Magno, Neon the Unknown, Invisible Hood, the Red Torpedo, Miss America, Hourman, and the Red Bee as his first batch of Freedom Fighters, all of whom were killed in their first adventure except Hourman and Red Bee (who later died at the hands of Baron Blitzkrieg. This is correct, except that Red Bee actually went over in the second group, with the Ray and Black Condor and all those guys; this second group was captured and chained up (with the only survivor from the first group, Hourman) and only the Red Bee got away; he was killed rescuing them. Also in the first group were Midnight and Doll Man, who got separated from the rest and had to fend for themselves. At the end of that story, only Uncle Sam, the Ray and Black Condor remained in Earth-X. The others returned in a later story, as did the original Firebrand.

Well, that wasn't bad considering it's probably been twenty years since I read the story.

I have to say while I liked a lot of stuff Roy did in All-Star Squadron the retcon that the Earth-X guys actually came from Earth-2 never worked for me...one of the many things that I'm kinda glad the Crisis did away with...

If only Crisis hadn't done away with them coming from Earth-X as well...

On the FF:
It's stated in the article that FF is spinning out of the events in the Battle for Bludhaven. The cover of that special shows the Force of July....so the new FF may not be who we think.

The Pulse article mentions the Ray, Phantom Lady, and the Doll Man, so I think we can reasonably conclude that it will be something like the classic line-up.

Maybe she's going to start wearing a sweater to cover that gaping sword wound between her boobies...

The silicone filled the wound; she's down to a b-cup, though...

Maybe she'll be like a living stone... as in THE SWORD AND THE STONE. She could walk around with a sword protuding from her chest, which she'll pull out and wave around, hacking her opponents to bits. "Excalibra!' can be her warcry.
OR- a character like GYPSY could take over the 'mantle'. More likely, a new character will take over the name and costume... a la BLUE BEETLE.
I'm disappointed that they are leaving Ray Palmer in limbo... I really don't want to see someone else take over his name and/or costume. I've liked Gail Simone's work on BIRDS OF PREY and the LEGION, though- so I'll give it a try. My heart won't be in it, but I'll give it a look.
I AM looking forward to FF, though. Hopefully Damage'll show up there, too.

Jamie In the solicitation for Battle for Bludhaven #4 it says "When a door-to-door search uncovers the body of a comatose hero, things suddenly become more complicated."; I know some people have speculated that this may be Uncle Sam (last seen face down in IC) and may be how FF ties into Battle for Bludhaven. I was a bit thrown by Justin Grey saying something that implied the new FF wouldn't have any connection to the old Quality characters, but then after further information about a new/revamped Phantom Lady and Acuna talking about Doll Man, PL and The Ray it made me realize that what Justin was saying was that they new group wouldn't be adding any "new" Quality legacies in the group and that I'd just simply misunderstood. That said Gray also said no plans for Damage (of course its been heavily theorized that Grant may end up the new Human Bomb, in which case it'd be accurate to say that there are no plans for Damage and still have Grant in the book). And if they stick the Force of July into the Freedom Fighters, I at least hope they have the good taste to tell us that Lady Liberties torch is actually the same (or modified) torch that USA, the Spirit of Old Glory used in the Golden Age.

I'm kind of excited about the Atom. He was always one of my favorite Silver Age heroes. THe DC Atoms Archives are two of the best. What was great about the Atom was the inventive ways he used his shirnking ability to foil the bad guys. I hope the writers keep that in mind. Of course, some thngs may have to be updated. It might be kind of difficult for the Atom to travel thorugh the phone wires when one of the callers is on a cell.

Check it out here . Scroll to the bottom and you see the cover tease on the new Freedom Force. Ray front and center. A new Phantom Lady. A new Doll Man. A guy in a black suit that I presume is the new Human Bomb. Uncle Sam. And two other characters. One looks like he could be Silent Majority.

Wowie! Thanks RTVU2! Ray looks ace! Not sure who those four riflemen are or the big guy at the back? Could the blacksuit figure be a new Nightshade?

Yipee now it's working....Phantom Lady whoa......looks so daring and threatening....Uncle Sam mellowing down? hmmm....Ray is that the same Ray II we know? Where's Damage? Doll Man? I was hoping for Living Doll from KC...nope. But who is Doll Man? no Black Condor? no Firebrand? Regardless, I am definitely going to buy that series!

That cant be who I think it is.
<span class="spoiler_containter"><span class="spoiler_wording">Click Here For A Spoiler</span><span class="spoiler_text">The Monitor?</span></span>
But that pose is identical to the panel where that particular character introduced himself to the DCU.
