Personally, I'm ready for Carter to retake his titular spot. Golden Eagle, Schmolden Eagle.
The only consistent feature of all of your dissatisfying relationships is you.
Don't judge me!

Here's something our Boston gang failed to mention. Chris Batista will be doing the pencils (don't know about the covers) on an upcoming 3-issue arc of Hawkman that will tie directly into Infinite Crisis.

I read # 45. *CHOKE!!* I learned more about Charley Parker than I think I wanted to know. I'll hold out hope for him. I liked how Dr. Fate fit into Hawkman's "death". What good is having Dr. Fate for a son if you aren't going to make use of him? This has been one kick-ASS arc of HAWKMAN. More than deserving of the TPB treatment.

Haven't read it but I'm sure I will like it. Re: Golden Eagle. Ya know I was first introduced to him during Titans Hunt. He looked so cool drawn by Grummet it sucked to see him die. But I'm over him in this series. He's no Hawkman. Dr. Fate? YES! I've always really liked Dr. Fate...but Hector as Fate I think is the coolest thing since sliced bread. Love that Hawkman is his dad! Chris Batista? One of my favorite artists. Loved his Spaceknights and his Legion! His JLA rocked and his Hawkman will as well. Hope he gets a regular gig after the One Year Later...my hope is JSA. A new look for an old team.

Should that read "the pre-ZERO HOUR Hawkman being Hector's dad"? Coz reading it as is written implies that the current Hawkman is Dr. Fate's dad, and i dont think Carter is old enough to have fathered Hec. Sorry for being picky, Jorg-Em...

But this Hawkman calls him son...and Hector calls him father. Plus this Hawkman is only maybe a 1 year old. He was "born" an adult.

what an amazing final issue to this year long arc !!
i've loved this current storyline, it's been one of my favourite books month in, month out !!
the Cloak of Cagliostro would be a cool addition to HAWKMAN's collection of weapons !! although i don't see CARTER continuing to use it, i guess it would make him too powerful !!
do we know what book JOE BENNETT is moving onto next ?? i think his work on this arc has been AMAZING !! although his INKERS have had a big part too, [ i've stated before that i don't rate his BIRDS OF PREY work as much !! ]
but .... i'd love to see these guy's do some LEGION fill-ins !!
Matthew.

I *knew* Charley wasn't 'right' from the first scene he appeared in!
Still, I hope there's a positive future somewhere ahead for him. If he survives emerging into the Rann/Thanagar mess, maybe he'll learn a few life lessons, get the muck out of his head and work towards some redemption. I can wish, anyway.
I'm more upset about Shayera, honestly. Now *there's* a character who'll leave a big hole, even though she hasn't been featured in storylines for a long time.
Kendra just doesn't do much for me without the prospect of Shayera existing out there somewhere, for me. I liked the idea of a Thanagarian hawk paired with an Egyptian-based Earth hawk. Ah, well.
I've really enjoyed the last 6-8 months of story in this title. Here's to more updated GA villains-- Fresh, but With History! Not over-used like Luthor, Joker, Vandal Savage, etc.

HAWKMAN creator Justin Gray wrote a bit more about how he views Golden Eagle at the following (scroll down to post #6 for Justin Gray's comments): http://www.comicbloc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12560 A bit of hope, perhaps, for those concerned about Charley Parker.

Wow o wow! This has been a hell of a year for Hawkman. GrayPal have made this my must read DC title. It's not as clean or pretty as Superman or TT, here's where real action takes place. And BENNET is incredible.
This guy does two books a month, regularly on time, and looking damn fine. Begging Barry's pardon, but Joe is my favourite penciller. Watching Carter and Charlie go at it, that fight may have been scripted, but Joe made it happen.
Why isn't his work getting more hype? DC has some great artists working for them, and not on their top tier titles.
Just spouting off.

I've given up trying to figure out why good titles don't sell. And why some crappy ones move like hotcakes.
Marketing? Wizard? The internet? Who knows? I don't think even the pros know.

After the excellent and twisty Golden Eagle saga, this was a bit of a letdown. Nice (if disguieting) Atom scene. I don't know how wise it is backing up into the now-history Rann/Thanagar War. Followed, no doubt, by IC catch-up. Straight into OYL 52-ville. I wouldn't have wanted to see the Charley Parker storyline compromised, though.

Given the number of people whining about how Hawkman could be in Rann/Thanagar War and his own book at the same time, an issue like this may have been inevitable even if it hadn't been planned from the start.
I thought it was OK. Nice cover. I'm looking forward to the next arc with Adam Strange.

OM, I dug that cover. The interior stuff was great, but not like Bennet. The story seemed rather thrown away, like it's sole purpose was to explain continuity. The seen with the Atom mirrored the end of IdC. It seemed a waste actualy tho', nothing beyond what Meltzer already covered.
Here's to more issues of GrayPal and Bennet.

First Hawkgirl thing...
Kendra was amazing when Johns first brought her out. And in the early run of this series, she was more exciting to me than Carter. With all due respect to GrayPal, they seemed to have limited her role here. She's not been more than a love interest in this book. I'm glad to see her get some spotlight, but I'm not sure it's worthy now.
Bully for Simonson tho'. I've never been familiar with Chaykin, but I'm certaily going to give him a chance.
Now, the creative team switch...
This bugs me just a bit. I like characters for their unique qualities. I'm a little worried to see this time split up and move on. Sure they may very well do justice wherever they land, but it may not be a character I'm jazzed about (ala' Hal Jordan.) And I've read my share of writers doing a poor job on a fav character (Moore just before Simone's BOP.)
I'm not changing my reading list due to any of the changes, but I won't stay on a book that isn't satisfying anymore. Bats and the X books have burned me there.
Just spouting off.

Hawkgirl thoughts? Well I'm a bigger Hawkman fan but I think this is interesting.
Why? First the creators! Two of my all time faves. I wouldn't mind their roles reversed though but I will gladly take this!
Secondly? Hawkgirl may have some popularity thanks to the JLU cartoon. Dwyane McDuffie has already said this is his favorite character to write. She may be getting more air time next season.
Third? Why not? Hawkman the series I love...but it's not exactly selling like hot cakes.
It certainly has gained my attention.

I'm not really a Chaykin fan at all. But as long as he's not writing, I may give this a try.

HAWKMAN #47
Wow. I didn't expect follow up on the GOLDEN EAGLE story this quickly. The appearance of GE's father was so sudden that it's instantly suspicious. Could the voice of his father, real or imposter, help turn GE on a more positive path?
Guess the storylines are getting cleared for the new creative team. I regret the current team's departure, as I think they've done some good work. I hope the new team continues the focus on updated Golden Age villains. That alone justifies the usage of the Egyptian Hawks, for me. I'd tend to prefer the Thanagar space-cops.
I'm sort of dreading the switch to HAWKGIRL, to tell the truth. Not sure if I'll keep reading.

I too hate to see the new team leave. The Golden Eagle/golden age villains saga was excellent.
Unfortunately, I am a MUCH bigger fan of Simonson's artwork than his writing. I am also a big fan of Chaykin's artwork (again, not his writing), so I will give HAWKGIRL a chance. The standard 3-6 issues.

Yeah, I'll give it a few issues, too, but I have to admit, part of the draw in this series was the MAN part of the title. Carter was an interesting character with a great setting, and most of the artists made him look mighty fine. And since the topic of this thread is Hawkman covers, I just have to say 47 was one of the ugliest, most garish I've seen. And it looks like 48 and 49 will be just as bad.

Well the cover was a bit flashy. I don't know that'd I'd say ugly tho'. The story was a nice slam bam adventure after the moody run of the past year.

Not being a regular reader of the title and also being extremely far behind in reading the Rann-Thangar War mini (I've yet to finish it), I have a question. Was this issue (#47) the first mention of Durlan bio-ships?

They've been mentioned in the R/T War mini, in the last issue or two. Nothing than the passing mention they received here. I had been meaning to ask folks if they were ever a subject brought up in LSH history.
