I'd bring back the Beanstalk with a pouchful of magic beans. Super-growing-beans, exploding-beans, boxing-glove beans... heh.

Nyola also appeared in All Star Squadron...just before #50 - a member of Monster Society of Evil, as I recalled.

Whoa! Big news from the Philly Wizard Convention! In September's HAWKMAN 44... spoiler space spoiler space spoiler space spoiler space spoiler space spoiler space spoiler space GOLDEN EAGLE assumes the role of HAWKMAN! Notice they say 'Golden Eagle', rather than Charley Parker... does Carter assume the role of Golden Eagle prior to #44? Guess GE isn't as nefarious as I thought-- or is he? I hope this doesn't hurt the title at all!
I'm going to assume that maybe Golden Eagle takes over while Hawkman's in space in the Rann-Thanagar war?
Lash, your fears are very understandable. This is the typical time for him to be offed. Maybe, just maybe, because we've seen that done to death over the years, that the writers will do more than off him.
I'm am literally CROSSING MY FINGERS that Hawkman's title remains in tact, with the same creative team, well after Infinite Crisis. DC *needs* a Hawkman, Green Arrow, BoP, etc. cadre of titles.

HAWKMAN # 41 SPOILER

WHOA!!! Now we know who is in that casket from last issue-- and it's *not* Kendra!
This storyline isn't getting much 'larger' attention-- but it should be. The villains are up to no good--- and are succeeding (apparently) and, what's more, they're fresh... they're not the 'same old' villainous faces that turn up again and again. Big plus.
Then, the Thanagarian man-hawks are added in-- to great, almost mythological, effect. Poor Carter-- his 'final' splash page was... as dire an image as I've ever seen in superhero comics. Visceral. Prometheus-on-the-mountain gore.
And then *that* gets followed up by Charlie's suprise (*never* saw that one comin') announcement. Though I wonder if Charlie meant Carter or Katar when he said 'he's my father'...
I have *no* idea where this is going... much less how it's going to tie into Rann/Thanagar and JLA, etc.
But I can't wait to find out...
Best book of the week, for me. Well, that or KLARION-- they're so different, I can't quite compare them. Not that ranking matters much.

OMG!!! Gotta hit the CBS Saturday, don't even care that LEGION isn't in yet. If someone had told me, say, even 6 months ago even, that HAWKMAN would soon be good enough to get me to go to the CBS when LSH wasn't out yet, I would have been all like this and stuff: HAWKMAN has gotten that good that quickly.

Hee-hee... maybe THE BEANSTALK can follow Kendra or Charley or Carter everywhere they go, sighing with unrequited love. He or she can be the Hawks' Harelquin-- staging crimes to get his beloved's attention...
... though that *wouldn't* fit in with the current storyline's mood. For *this* run, THE BEANSTALK would have to carry a machete, and have some sort of 'killer bean' power.

I read # 41-- WHOA!
Okay, so now we know why and how Charley will be taking up the mantle of HAWKMAN...
I would guess that the upcoming 1-year Gap will see Carter returned, in some form. That whole reincarnation thing...
Great book, has become one of my top titles.
I noticed my CBS had some reorders in on #s 38, 39 & 40. Dare I hope sales of this book have picked up a tiny smidgen?

the final pages of 41 were so shocking !! can't believe CARTER is dead !! although we know he WILL return !!
has it been mentioned before how soon a REINCARNATION takes place ??
i would have thought CARTER would return before the "INFINITE CRISIS" begins ??
Matthew.

And where does RannThan War fit in? Before this current arc, obviously.
Preorder sales DID pick up a bit for HAWKMAN # 41, I noticed elsewhere... here's hoping people are catching on to how good this book has gotten.

... featuring the return of another villain from the golden-age list on this thread's page 7!
I was surprised that it was *that* particular name reintroduced... though it made sense given the character's revealed origin.
Hawkgirl gets lots of play (appropriate considering the cover art), and Golden Eagle *looks* great, if not really doing much of anything... unless that's him in a new guise.
I'm loving seeing these golden oldie one or two-shots dragged into the 'present'. Since HAWKMAN is now Carter Hall, it's only fair and right that *his* villains appear, rather than only the more familiar (to us) SA/BA/MA ones. I've read criticisms here and there that the villains are being thrown in without much development.
I *so* disagree. Have readers forgotten that comics are a method of *sequential* storytelling? The villain that makes a splash can be expanded upon in later storylines. What's wrong with that?

The "Hawkman" in Rann/Thanagar War hasn't spoken much: I suspect he's Charley, and he's hesitant to let too many people know it, lest they try to take advantage of his relative inexperience or dismiss him like a total rookie. And in Hawkman 42: anyone else notice the license plate at the bottom of page 8 "WAK-R1"? Either someone's a 3boot fanboy, or they're trying to tell us that Mark and Barry are the same person .
"Gee, Brainy, what do you want to do tonight?" "The same thing we do every night, Bouncing Boy: try to take over the United Planets!!" They're B.B. and The Brain ...

Is Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman ever going to make an appearence in the Hawkman series? She was so much a part of Hawkman before and after the Crisis that it would be a pity to overlook her.
After Zero Hour, it seemed that she had just vanished...did she get killed or what?

Shayera was in Hawkman a couple years back when Geoff Johns was still writing the book. She aprehended a space criminal and went home to Thanagar after living years on Earth.
I have a bad feeling about what might happen to her as the crisis builds up. One of the covers for the Rann Thanagar war teases us about her fate but that's an old trick.
Oh BRM I like your Charley theory, Carter would never defer to Kendra in talking to Shayera like he did in the RTW #3.

I remember a version of the Hawks wearing space-suits and Hawkman had a strange looking patch over his right eye...from which era did this take place? It was after CRISIS but years before ZERO HOUR

Some thoughts on the latest:
- This series continues to impress and be awesome. I read in an interview with the writers that they wanted to make a tale similar to a "Hush" story for Hawkman, but one that played up on all of Hawkman's uniqueness. I think they have succeeded wildly, and I think I like this story better than hush.
- We get an excellent Kendra issue, with Speed having some good time as well! Yes, yes, yes. And the little bits, like Kendra strapping the mace onto her arm with a leather belt, show the artist is on the ball too.
- Golden Eagle is still around, and his story slowly develops. I think Todd is precisely on the ball--we're getting a lot of characters, but their stories are being deveoped slowly after their big bang initial appearance. I think this is smart and action-oriented story-telling, and I like it here. And I loved the line "he probably won't even survive the next big crisis". That right there makes me think the writers are too smart to fall into a cliche and Golden Eagle may still have a long history ahead of him.
- The villains are still kicking ass! Satana is interesting, and I like how she is a seperate enemy entity from Fadeaway Man and his crew. Fadeaway Man is interesting, and his plans of retirement after 'killing Carter' (yeah, right) show more depth to him. Can't wait to see my new faves Lasso and Hummingbird again. And the purple pilgrim being stricly a Hawkgirl villain is a nice touch.
All in all, the series is still kicking ass. I hope sales continue to improve, b/c DC is better for having a Hawkman title.
One more thing- I think the Hawkman in Rann/Thanager War is definately Carter. His comments/talk with Adam Strange in #1 seem to be too much Carter more than anything else. How else would he know Adam? I also think Adam would be able to see through it.
I also think (no one has said otherwise, but thought I'd say) that it's obvious that its Carter in the current JLA storyline too.

I read # 42!
I missed the regular guy but am going to be the last to complain about a Steve Sadowski fill-in.
"I'll wager that amateur doesn't survive whatever CRISIS comes along next". Ummm... theat couldn't be a way unsubtle hint, could it? *choke!*
Anyhoo, next issue is the big one-- the all-GOLDEN EAGLE issue!!!

If anybody wanted to do a movie about HAWKMAN, i would pick Tom Jane in the main role...his physique would be perfect with just the right amount of chest hair to set it off.
This same hot physique was displayed in the Punisher movie...with Jane doing most of the action stunts half-naked...He would definitely make a perfect Katar Hol/Hawkman...

I don't know LAM, he seemed like a pretty horrible actor in Punisher. I'm one of those people who could care less about the look of the actor if the acting is there, instead of vice versa. Unless he's done a good job in other movies, since I've never seen him in anything else. I'm sure their are plenty of hotties to play Hawkman and Hawkgirl

You might be right, Cobie, just find an actor with a hairy chest who CAN act...as for Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman, well, take your pick from any red-headed actresses out there...

If Clive Owen put on a bit more muscle, he might be a good Hawkman. Certainly intense enough, great actor, and hairy, muscular chest...
