JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA: 80-PAGE GIANT 2010 #1: Featuring solo tales starring Cyclone, Doctor Fate, Jesse Quick, Mr. Terrific, Obsidian, Sand and Tomcat... but with a whopping price tag of $5.99.
Still, though Sand and Obsidian in their own tales? Don't think I can pass this one up.
There's also #1's for KNIGHT AND SQUIRE and RAGMAN that look interesting. Oh, and lots of batcentricity.
What stood out for you?

I'm hoping that Andreyko is writing the Obsidian story.

I'll say it again... DEATH!
..and still, no emotional response from Titans OR Teen Titans.

A new day dawns for the Teen Titans, brought to you by the dynamic duo of J.T. Krul (GREEN ARROW, BLACKEST NIGHT: TITANS) and Nicola Scott (WONDER WOMAN, SECRET SIX)! Starting right here, the team finds itself pushed in new directions and brought to new heights while also rediscovering its roots. But if they discover the truth behind the Feral Boys, will they be able to stand together to face it? Find out here as the new era of the Teen Titans begins in this perfect jumping-on-point issue!
...
I am so tired of both Raven, Beast Boy, and people repeatedly attempting to try and cash in on the line-up Wolfman and Perez started. Could that actually try something different?

They keep trying to pour the same ingredients into the old dish, to recapture the magic that made it so successful in the past, and failing miserably, because all they are doing is putting the appearance of something fondly remembered over stories that lack the heart of the stories that made us love those characters in the first place. They are pissing away what goodwill the older fanbased has towards the Perez/Wolfman lineup with each cheap attempt to recapture that success, IMO. Squandered potential.

A few things stick out among DC’s solicits:
When there are that many Batman one-shots, I’d rather just skip them all and get my usual monthlies.
The Spirit back-up is by Richard Corben—cool!
Supergirl annual features the Legion & Satan Girl—groovy!
JSA 80-Pager, at $5.99, is something I will wait for others to review before I commit. There is some good potential but also some bad potential.
Ragman gets a one-shot but I wonder why? Is this just a story they had lying around?
Vertigo’s Luna Park GN looks pretty cool and with rave reviews. I’m already very curious about Revolver which I believe is coming out this month.
The Unknown Soldier is coming to an end which is too bad, but it seems like it’s going out on its own terms. A series that powerful would be difficult to come out every month anyway.
I don't even bother reading the Titans solicits anymore.

Oh, did I forget to mention they're practically BEGGING people to buy Titans #28, telling BD fans to tune in for the Osiris element.

8 titles in October - this could be the smallest amount of new comics I've bought in a month since... forever? DC is just doing so little to interest me anymore. All the JLA, JSA and Titans comics barely even rate a glance in the solicits now and I've never been one to buy any of the multitude of Superman and Batman titles other than the core one or two. And the few new titles that do interest me (like Ragman and Time Masters) are $3.99 for 32 pages - and that's a line I refuse to cross. It's just as well though since I just spent $200 on a veritable treasure trove of about 100 old back issues and it will probably take me a few months just to get through all of them!

I see from Image\'s solicitations that the trade for Pax Romana is coming out. I never gave it a look before but now that Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. and FF series has confirmed for me that Jonathan Hickman is a GENIUS, I think I might take a look. The solicit sounds pretty groovy! Not much 'new' coming from Image in Oct but I'm already planning to pick up a bunch of their stuff in the next few months. Bulletproof Coffin and Turf have already been good enough to get me committed and I'm curious about Nick Specner's Morning Glories, as well as giving another issue of Jack Staff a try.

PS - Blacula, I'm the same now: I don't even read solicits for Titans, JLA or JSA related comics anymore. I'm that fed up with the crap I've been getting from them.

I didn't realize Hickman was an artist as well (as he's solicited to be for Pax Romana) as a writer. I wonder if he's good? A lot of popular writers today started off as writer/artists (or just artists). Many of these people never realize ever even drew! Some that come to mind are Bendis, Brubaker and Willingham. (I refuse to include Matt Wagner on this list as his artistic body of work is reknowned!)
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

Looking at IDW\'s Oct 2010 Solicits , I'm excited beyond words to see the new Darwyn Cooke adapation of the Parker novels on the schedule! That's a must-buy, must-read immediately. Two things I noticed that made me curious: (A) has anyone tried Locke & Key? It gets rave reviews and (B) I guess their reprinting the Topps Jurassic Park mini from 1993 with art by Gil Kane and George Perez--sounds groovy, and I never realized it existed. Probably not something I'll buy but I wonder if anyone else ever did? If you're looking for a cool new comc book title, Blacula, try Mystery Society by IDW! It's really great! (And there's a thread on it here at LW). From the Dark Horse Oct 2010 Solicits , I'm thrilled to see another Hellboy one-shot (as they have been awesome), this time teaming him up with Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson's Beasts of Burden, which I haven't checked out yet but now will. And of course, I'm thrilled to see Turok return in Turok: Son of Stone, the original title he had back in the 50's.

I know he's really talented at designing labels and logos and such; he's been used by other series to design their logos over the years. He's very big in symbols, layouts, structuring the page and such. I read a groovy interview with him a few months back but can't remember where it was (online).

Loved him in SHADOWPACT so I may get the RAGMAN 1-shot. Originally posted by Blacula:

I hate it too, but I heard (on a thread here) that it won't be long before all DC titles jump to $3.99. I'm cutting titles like crazy already and thinking hard about what I'm keeping on my pull list.

Hold the phone.
Are you telling me that a FUNNYBOOK is going to cost TEN DOLLARS... and it's not from, like 1951 or something???
Shut the front door! While holding the phone!

10 cents a page... don't know if that's 100 pages of story, or if there are some ads thrown in.

I refuse to believe a single issue comic book costs more than...lunch?...a movie?...a night out at Huskies? (that reference for Pov only ).

Proof positive that Marvel still has a sense of humor: AVENGERS VS. PET AVENGERS #1 (of 4) Written by CHRIS ELIOPOULOS Pencils & Cover by IG GUARA Basic Truth: It’s very hard to protect the earth when you’ve been turned into a frog. The Pet Avengers Return! Good thing, too, cuz dragons have decided that it’s time to take over the world and oppress the silly humans once and for all!!! And since Captain America, Iron Man & Thor are all green and hopping about, here’s hoping they can get used to their new flippers in time to fight alongside Earth’s Mightiest Pets!C'mon DC. No Legion vs. Super-Pets miniseries? You could even have Batman guest-star with Ace. The gauntlet has been thrown.

I also see comics geniuses David Lapham and Kyle Baker have teamed up for a DeadpoolMax miniseries. I love both creators quite a bit and have always been impressed by them--but Deadpool isn't exactly my favorite. Probably an impulse decision in the store, but Lapham and Baker will probably get me to at least buy the first issue.

Lapham and Baker on anything will at least get me flipping through the book at the store.
I need to dig out Bakers Shadow issues...such fantastic artwork in those.
Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

Marvel: The original Alpha Flight is reunited in a spin-off from CHAOS WAR (which is one event I'm actually looking forward to). Also, a dead Avengers book spinning off from the same event.
