We all know we're here because of a love of the Legion, but many of us are just as (if not moreso) in love with other comic book characters that don't have a lovely place like LW to endlessly discuss the minutae of its mythos or create a community around. What other character(s) is as near to your heart as our beloved Legion?

For me, the Legion ranks alongside Hal Jordan, Green Lantern. The Question is close, so needless to say these next several months are very exciting for me

Probably my single other favourite group of characters is the New Gods of New Genesis, from Kirby onwards. I particularly liked the seldom-seen Lonar.

I also retain a rather goofy affection for the goofy Metal Men.

A more obscure and perhaps deeper affection is for the characters in a series called The End of the Century Club/Time Warp, by a British creator Ilya. I found I really cared about the people in that story and wanted to read more about them, learn what happened next. They weren't superheroes, just ordinary, down-and-out people in England who banded together in an odd mix of family, friendship and need to survive. Unfortunately, he hasn't produced any more tales about these characters. If a writer can really draw you into his/her characters' lives, to the extent that you feel as if you know them, and truly like them, even when they're behaving badly, that's pretty successful comic book writing.

The New Gods definitely hold a place in my heart. I was first intrigued by them in "Cosmic Odyssey" and wanted to seek out the original source material (sorry, for the pun ). I loved the Kirby stuff and it's unfortunate that nobody else has been able to recreate the magic that he did (Simonson came pretty close though I think). That's a property that I think needs to reincarnate itseld outside the DCU, because its ties to it has hurt the property, imo.

Your other selection is unknown to me, but it reminded me of possibly my favorite series of all time - Scott McCloud's "Zot!" I didn't include Zot in this thread because it's not any one character I love, it's the entire work itself and all the wonderful characters around Zot and Jenny - a wonderful assortment of teenage geeks and outsiders who dream of a better world.

Scrooge McDuck, protagonist of decades of classic globetrotting adventures, remains a favorite.

But let's talk antagonists .

My favorite villain had no super powers, but repeatedly fought the World's Mightiest Mortal to a standstill with nothing but brains, perseverance, and malice.

Oh, and a colossal ego: he was calling himself "Rightful Ruler of the Universe" over a decade before Victor von Doom was even a gleam in Stan Lee's eye ...

I love the Duck family -- especially Carl Barks's creations. Magica DeSpell and Flintheart Glomgold are terrific nemeses...

I'm also quite fond of the entire Marvel Family, especially Tawky Tawny and Uncle Marvel.

But my heart still belongs to...

As for Magica de Spell, I have loved her and Dasiy Duck since I was little, I go and find stuff on ebay on Magica all the time (Daisy is easier to find on the merchandise department, so I can just go to the store for her)

Gar Logan always ran a close second to Garth.

I also have a fondness for well written villains. Slade Wilson being my favorite.

On the Marvel side Black Bolt is on the top of the list. Always did like most of the Inhumans.

I had a soft spot for Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel, Binary, Warbird) but she's been transmogrified and personal-problem-ized too much, and I don't recognize her any more.

I fell for Alan Moore's cast of metaphysical wanderers and storytellers in "Promethea," but that series ends with the next issue.

I liked the 1920s take on young "Namor," more recently, but that fizzled after two story arcs.

I fell for "Sojourn" and Arwyn's fierce quest for vengeance and peace of mind, but CrossGen went belly up with the story line hanging.

I sense a pattern here *sigh*

Deadpool is the only other character that I feel a great fondness for.

Oh my! Where to begin?

*DOOM PATROL

My dedication to Cliff Steele and Rita Farr knows no limits, which is why I'm still buying the blase current series. My love for Doom Patrol characters goes all the way from the beginning to Arani Caulder's group to Crazy Jane and Coagula and the last series with Kid Slick and Freak.

*JUSTICE SOCIETY/INFINITY INC

Johns' current series is a JSA fanboy's dream come true.

*THE 70s revival of TEEN TITANS

I love anyone involved in this run, from Golden Eagle and Duela Dent on up the ladder.

*SECOND/THIRD-TIER MARVEL HEROINES

Polaris, Hellcat, Valkyrie, Moondragon, Red Gaurdian, Mantis, Medusa and the like.

Where to begin is right:

-Spider-Man. My love and dedication to Spider-Man, Gwen, MJ, his classic villians, supporting cast and entire history is equal and probably even greater than my love for the Legion.

-The Atom (Ray Palmer), Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) and Adam Strange. My Silver Age DC Heroes.

-Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond), who has been a favorite since I first saw his cool costume when I was litt.e

-Wally West, who may be my favorite DCU character.

-Kitty Pride, my Marvel crush (funny how Tinya, the other phasing hero, is my DC one!)

-Nightcrawler and Colossus- along with Kitty, my favorite X-Men.

-Hank Pym and the Wasp- huge faves of mine that I believe should live happily ever after together, after all the terrible things they've done have been retconned away.

-The Black Knight (Dane Whitman)

-Crystal of the Inhumans

These are all characters that I can never get enough of and remain dedicated to through good times and bad!

I forgot to mention Hank Pym. I hate the way he's been treated lately, though, and just can't stand that he'll be left the shell of the hero I used to like. At least I still have my Essential Ant-Man books to re-read.

Well, first and foremost:
BLACK CANARY. Has always been my favorite character, always will. Gotta love Dinah.

Then:
I always liked the "Aqua-women" : Mera, Aqua Girl, Dolphin...

Also, TARANTULA, JOHNNY QUICK, LIBERTY BELLE and FIREBRAND from the old All Star Squadron.

BLACK CONDOR was one of my first superhero crushes.

She's not a superhero, but I love KATCHOO from Strangers in Paradise. Oh, and ENID from Ghost World.


From Marvel, SHE-HULK, NORTHSTAR, HAVOK, POLARIS, and BLACK BOLT (off the top of my head)--and because everyone loves a good bitch--MOONDRAGON!

Those Annoying Post Bros., I swear Cthulu (yes, the Elder God), Hiroshima (the Nuclear Mother Earth Goddess) and Ron Post (the really annoying homocidal little brother) are the best characters ever.
Hero Alliance was the coolest book on the market for a while.
Superboy who?
Doctor Strange..what can I say, Stephen's cool.
I used to just love Wonder Man.
Grips - Tim Vigil's first comic, short run but outstanding work.
American Flagg! Ruben is one of the most lovable asses ever written.
The Shadow, holy crap, from Kaluta to Senkowitz (sp?) to Chaykin, a wonderful comic.
The whole cast of Liberty Meadows rules.

Do you get the feeling I like indies a lot?

GREAT stories! I love re-reading the old Ant-Man stories in Tales to Astonish (bought by my Dad off the rack in the early 60's!). I think his Avengers apperances from roughly #49 to #62 are some of his best ever (when he, Jan, Hawkeye and T'Challa are the Avengers, then later the first Vision appearances).

*JOSIE & THE PUSSYCATS

I have often toyed with the idea of trying to collect the entire run of Josie comics. Right now I've contented myself with the great TPB that was released a while back.

There's just something about Josie, Melody, Valerie, Alex, Alexandra and Alan M.

The movie was kind-of "ehh", but every time Parker Posey's onscreen, it elevates to "Yeah!"

I'm *still* patiently awaiting a Josie & The Pussycats DVD set that collects their cartoon appearances.

Great choice. Concrete was the book that introduced me to the wonderful world of indie comics. I'm looking forward to the new mini.

Jack Knight/Starman - probably my favorite "hero who could be you" type or close to it, alongside Peter Parker.

Pretty much the entire "All New All Different" X-Men lineup from the Wein/Cockrum/Claremont era, with Kitty Pryde to boot. I'm with Cobie, she was my first character crush when I was a kid.

I really loved Travis Morgan, the Warlord as a kid too.

Hey Lash and Semi--glad to see your shout-outs for characters from the "Archie" comics!

Those were the comics I first discovered and loved before I discoverd THE LEGION and began reading super hero stuff.

I sold almost all my old ARCHIE, BETTY & VERONICA, SABRINA, JOSIE & THE PUSSYCATS comics years ago....Wish I still had them.

Alan M. was the first comic character to make me feel "tingly".

These are characters whose appearances make me perk up and take notice...
