I still can't believe Mal and Karen Duncan survived this comic. I was sure it was going to make me call a Depression Hotline when I saw that cover.

In retrospect, I wonder if Geoff Johns was just giving them some exposure in advance of his placement of them on his new Doom Patrol team (that I think he was at that point planning to write the ongoing book of).

A shame that that book never got off the ground but at least Karen, and hopefully Mal down the line, are still making appearances in Giffen's new Doom Patrol book - even if he has ended their marriage... grumble... grumble...

I'm sorry that the fears about Air Wave's fate turned out to be well-founded though. I always liked him too. An energy being being dispersed into space is such a wishy-washy way to go though so I'm sure any writer worth his/her salt could bring him back if they wanted to. I hope one does.
