Interesting mention of the Question in "JLA #1" -- Vixen is lured to a trap in Hub City by a note that was supposed to have been written by him and given to her through the grapevine. Of note is that she accepts his proposition for a date and she mentions that Firehawk calling him a pain in the ass means that he's good in bed. The Question and Firehawk?? Interesting and unexpected pairing.

I was a HUGE fan of O'Neil's Question; it's probably the last decent thing he ever did.

It was probably my favorite book at the time.

To me, he never seemed to be a character well-suited to big super-hero crossovers (although you guys make it sound like he fits well in 52); other than the Batman/Green Arrow three-part crossover in the annuals.

The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

They do manage to make Vic fit in nicely with "52" (a lot moreso than in "The L.A.W.") - partly because most of his stuff is with Montoya and has more of a potboiler feel than superheroics (though that's changing now that they've hooked up with Black Adam and Isis). The one drawback is that he's dressing more practically and has ditched the trench coat for the time being (and hasn't worn his hat *once* except for covers and his origin backup).

Greg Rucka was interviewed for the Word Balloon podcast. He didn't have too much to say about The Question, but emphasised that the key characters for 52 were very carefully chosen, Vic Sage needed more exposure and was well-liked by the writers.

He saw The Question as a very human character in the DCU - moreso than Batman - on a hero journey. A big fan of O'Neill's Question, Rucka claimed that he approached passing on the legacy to Montoya with a great degree of reverence and trepidation.

He also mentioned, speaking about comics in general, that if death becomes a revolving door for characters, it loses its drama - and that violence becomes meaningless if death becomes irrelevant.

I guess we won't be seeing Vic Sage with some miraculous Nanda Parbat-inspired revival. It might have been meaningless, but the Sage-Montoya pairing was probably my favourite part of 52, and I wouldn't have minded if there were two Questions running around the DCU.

What a load of Hooey! The Question may have been on a journey, but if anything it was a *neverending* one of discovery! I don't see how his character lent itself to dying and passing on his "legacy" and his part in "52" was all about him taking Renee on her heroic journey - I don't see how it gave closure to Vic's life.

I just hate hate hate that they killed him off...

I agree Drake. The Question is one of the coolest characters in comics. I was very excited to see him in 52. Instead of using this as a chance to promote him...they kill him. Renee? I won't touch anything as her as the Question.

DC/Marvel IMO do a real bad job killing off characters who are cool or are easy to relate with thus have a fan following.

Ted Kord, Jack Monroe (Nomad), Hawkeye, Firestorm (Ray), and now the Question. There are lot of loser heroes out there like Armadillo they can kill. wink But they have to do the ones we like. frown

Actually, Armadillo was killed in Punisher: War Journal #4. Dan Slott's promptly ignored this in Initiative though.

My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Nice image!

Has the cartoonverse been assigned an Earth out of the multiverse?

Good Question. wink

Seriously, which toonverse? Captain Carrot & the Zoo Crew? And the Legion in their own toon is decidedly different from the one shown in JLU's Timm-verse, as I imagine is Teen Titans GO!. I don't know that DC would want to commit that many of their Earths to their cartoon settings.

I would say that the animated Legion fits into the JLU Timm-verse (I assume that is the animated Justice League) so they could share one Earth.
