I think I liked Batista's Supergirl more than any rendition I've seen since she was reintroduced.

Good news for Batista fans-- he mentions some of his plans for after the JL story in this interview... (You'll have to scroll down the main page to click on the interview).

You're right, DrakeB and Stratum, the Earth/moon distance and atmospheric friction was glossed over (to put it mildly). We see it all the time in comics. Once in awhile, the offense is so blaring it takes the reader right out of the story.

Good thing (I guess) that those points usually don't occur for all readers at the same time.

I hope J'onn doesn't join the ranks of the dead... I always liked him. Maybe he could lose some of his powers in a cataclysmic fight with Despero (and Aquaman?)?

Hmmm- he should keep the shapechanging, and at least some super-strength, I think. Anything else can go, IMO.

Then again, if IC involves the breakdown between 'life' and 'death' (my current 'theory'), maybe J'onn, if killed, would return even sooner than most superheroes (with Shayera?).

Is "jumping into hyper-space" still a term used in Sci-fi? If it is, then that would be the explanation for J'onn J'onzz and Despero's short jaunt. Or else maybe the writers have personal access to "wormholes" of their own?

Awesome, awesome issue. Loved everything about it, and I hope whoever is the creative team for JLA in the future follows in the footsteps of this arc.

Aquaman's entrance to the storyline kicked total ass.

And good to see Zatanna taking an active stance here, and making sure her decisions were on her terms.

I think Tamper's right about Catwoman, and I'm glad she's here in the story. I'm hoping Red Tornado wakes up and rejoins them too before this arc ends.

so who will be Despero's Queen, Bishop, and Pawns? He got Batman as his Knight, Manhunter as his Rook, and Aquaman as his King....I bet that Green Arrow will be his Bishop and Dinah *shudder* will his Queen? (or will it be Oliver QUEEN?)

The chess analogies are a cool nod to his past classic appearance. I imagine the SSV were his pawns.

Read it, loved it.

Best JLA tale in years.

Zatanna SO needed to do that. Was thrilled when she told 'em all to frag off and quit.

Issue 119 Out Today!

Wow! Not going to spoil anything but this has been a GREAT story! From the initial build up in Identity Crisis (still really annoyed that Sue had to die...argh!!) til the ending of this latest chapter I've been hooked. DC is making me feel like a kid again!

I have no idea what's next, but I'm in for the entire Infinite Crisis ride and we'll see how the League stands at the end.

You mean, aside from Steel and Vibe's mortal passage in the pre-Zero Hour Justice League?

from JLA #119, there is a death of a JLA member....can't tell you who the member is....You will have to go read that book and judge to see if that member is really dead or not. To me, death is there.

I doubt the character in question is dead. I just don't see that happening. It seemed like an obvious cliffhanger where the hero is alive in the end.

IMO MM needs a complete rehaul. He's a green Superman sometimes. Sure he's much more than that...he's the soul of the League but they need to make him more unique.

Bring him back. But with new look, more alien, and just call him the Martian.

Ohwell. I've thought MM needed a rehaul since 1989. smile

But what was wrong with just calling him J'onn J'onzz?

Who do you guys think precipitated the cliffhanger. I don't think it was superman. MM's face seemed to show surprise in seeing him, so it wasn't a stranger. The guy has a red cape though.

Told you that Catwoman was there to humanize Batman a couple of weeks ago, right? The denouement in this issue does make the last few months of his sulking a little easier to swallow.

This story was really good. DC should find a way to get Heinberg and Batista on regular gigs. This was so much better than JLA has been. Though Johns got co-credited, I think Heinberg's influence on the product is clear.

I called it a "death" is because of almost at the same time that MM is leaving the JLU (yeah cartoon show)...makes me think that DC is planning to do something to MM... maybe a major haul or have him resigned from the league and place him on a "sabbactical leave"?...(MM is conspiciously absent from the future JLA covers issues)

Is it still written (given the fact that J'onn was a guest at Duo Damsel and Bouncing Boy's wedding pre-Zero Hour) in his biog that the MM is a virtually-immortal being?

Letting Morrison reboot MM might not be a bad thing? He might be able to inject some weird alien sci-fi stuff into him. J'onn can be bland generic alien superhero sometimes.

well I am enjoying Morrison's writings on Seven Soldiers - it's fascinating so far....I would be more curious on his taking on MM and how he writes him...would be very fascinating. Loved his Doom Patrol and Animal Man - still one of the best readings ever.

Morrison wrote a nice chapter that is kind of a parody of Wile E Coyote...I laughed aloud but good story. I think it was Animal Man #7.

frown This issue was so bittersweet. The League... no more, I guess. Kinda.

*sigh*

Y'know, I've always enjoyed JLA because it's often times dumb or campy and has no real continuity in a lot of ways because it's more of a subsidiary to the solo books (as opposed to Marvel where the teams reign supreme).

But this arc... this was something special. Really left me thinking and concerned and stuff. It was kind a crazy. I just don't know what I think anymore. Other than I love Geoff. But we allll knew that. wink
