What nonesense is that, LASH? Did Grell do another GA/BC story arc in addition to the first one he did?

Grell did the LONGBOW HUNTERS and then a long run of Green Arrow for years, iirc.

And the nonsense is all the nasty crap he did to Black Canary. The rape, the depowering, all of that. Don't spit on Black Canary. I cheered when she got thrown into te Lazarus Pit and the Grell crap was washed away! I have fond remembrances of Grell on S/LSH, but I didn't like his Green Arrow stuff.

I found BC to be a complex character....

First she was supposed to be a member of the Justice Society, who left the group after Larry Lance was killed by Aquarius....

Second - it turns out that someone monkeyed around with her memories and that it was her mother who had the Earth-2 career and not Dinah II...was i confused or what?

Was anybody confused?

Honestly, I didn't really think about her much. I liked her okay, I guess. What she did and all that jazz. And I like what Oracle can contribute now.

The thing that I don't like about Barbara is how she shits all over Nightwing. But I'm a big Dick Grayson fan from back in the day, so I guess that's part of it. PovertyLad

I liked her best, though, in the Elseworlds JLA: Created Equal. She became the Green Lantern and I was just really impressed by what she could do and stuff. It was nifty.

I loved Longbow Hunters and Grell's run on the regular series...but that stuff was very tied to its time. And like I feel about Byrne's Superman, I think its time has come...and gone.

It came from a grim and gritty time, which is no more relevent today than is the campy Batman of the '60s. But it's still great stuff (imo) when taken in the context of the period it came from.

Having said that, I am extremely happy every time I see a trick arrow now, just as I am happy to see Kal-El have a cousin, a dog, and warm Kryptonian parents again.

It's been a big topic of debate for years because it wasn't actually shown or even explicitly stated (not at the time anyway. I don't know if it was stated later on). She was shown bloody, tied up and her clothes were ... undone. The rest was left to the readers' imagination. "something" happened to her, but like I said, they didn't say at the time what exactly.

What about the "romance" with Ra's al Ghul? I didn't read those issues, but didn't she and Ra's have a .... "thing" of somekind?

I agree with Southtown Kid. At the time the story was great but now I see it too dark and glad Black Canary is back to normal. smile

I also think the JLA is splitting up somehow. Count Batman out...count Wonder Woman out. I see Superman, Flash (Wally), John Stewart (GL), Atom, Nightwing, Tempest as members. Maybe Donna Troy and some other girls. But people not involved in the whole brainwashing thing atleast.

Werent Steel and Vibe killed by Professor Ivo's androids in JUSTICE LEAGUE (vol. 1)? I remember distinctly that Vibe's corpse was discovered (on a splash page) wearing a mask....
Yup, I was misremembering the two stories. Thanks to you and Lash for clearing for reminding me.

LAM- Caliente answered your BoP question and yup, Krypto has been back in continuity for about four years or so.

Drake- thanks for clearing that up. In a similar fashion, there has been a long-standing arguement that the Joker may have raped Batgirl when he shot her through the spine too. This is another one that was never outright shown or not. Personally, I don't want that to happen to any of my heroines, 'realistic' or not frown . I remember Chuck Dixon, who has often put his foot in his mouth on other issues, making a strong and IMO very classy crusade to stop the rampant sexual abuse of female heroines in the grim and gritty era, particulurly after his own creation, Spoiler, turned out to have been sexually abused by her father Cluemaster when growing up (another writer did this).

Like Lash, I cheered for her too when she got her cry back and all that stuff was symbolically washed away.

Oh, and her 'trist' with Ra's lasted an issue or two, so I don't know if anything ever really happened with it. She just joined him on a cruise somewhere.

Thanks for clearing up the Krypto question for me, Cobes....altho thinking beyond the reboots and realigned timelines and zero hours and crises, Krypto would have to be a very very old hound dog by now...

I can't remember when his last appearence was before John Byrne started his artistic run on SUPERMAN....

Next thing i'll find out is that Streaky had been resurrected over in SUPERGIRL...

Cheers!

I'd love to see Streaky!

During the Peter David Supergirl series though, she did have a cat that looked just like Streaky, but this was just to tease the fans more than anything.

Comet was Biron the Centaur freed from celestial imprisonment by Supergirl's rocket as it travelled towards earth.

I think he had a thing for her. I think they'd best leave this one alone. Creepy.

And, also, I <3 my boy. Wally rules. Hardcore. laugh I'm so proud...

...oh!! And I liked the mention of Firestorm and what's happening in his book. Contrary to popular opinion, I'm enjoying the new take. Not that I didn't love Ronnie... just kinda fun to have someone new.

Uhm, yeah. I think that's it. ^_^ Good stuff all around. But, then, what else would you expect from my future husband??

Well, they now have a choice...and it's not a pretty one.

I also think that Despero's going to receive a major beatdown by J'onn. They've never really been able to completely cut loose before...and I'm of half a mind that Despero's going to bite the bullet in #119.

As for Wally, I have to say that I too like him a lot...especially in this arc and in Identity Crisis. I'm so glad that DC has matured Wally over the years and let him develop in to an excellent Flash. He started off so rocky after donning the mantle, he was a hard guy to like.

I think the main problem people have with Firestorm is that he was handled so disgracefully during and after Identity Crisis. Until that is fully resolved, I don't see a lot of old fans coming back to the new guy. You would think that they would have learned their lesson from the Hal/Kyle fiasco of the last ten years. smile

Haha. Well, I like Kyle a LOT more than Hal, soooo... PovertyLad

Seriously, though, Wally does own the Flash now. Not that I didn't love Barry -- I did, believe me!! But I think this is possibly the best instance I've seen of passing a mantle down. Seriously. I'm so proud. laugh *beams*

Although, I must admit, I also liked him when he was "unlikeable". But mostly 'cause I thought it was hilarious. I mean, really funny. Yeah, I'm mean. ^_^ What can I say? I love the character torture...

I'm really enjoying this arc. Aside from the fact that this is the JLA lineup from my childhood (just seeing Ollie, Dinah and Hal is worth the price of admission), it's an interesting story that while dealing with "Identity Crisis", a story I thought was really flawed in its concept, manages to overcome a lot of the things I didn't like about "IC" and keeps the Leaguers pretty much in character.

Yes, next issue will be interesting indeed. DC has been promoting something really significant happening two months from now though -- it fills me with fear and apprehenesion. Can't wait!

Btw, Batista is doing a really great job. There are only a few instances of his "skewed jawlines", but he's doing a superb job overall - especially on Despero and Green Lantern (I love it when the costume is *black* and green).

I am loving this arc myself, and like Drake said, it's worth it alone for the line-up. I love all the heroes being shown, and look forward to more. I want a larger Batman/JLA confrontation, but I want Superman to be front and center in the middle of it.

Very pleased to see Red Tornado having something happening, and I think it's nice that Batman is still showing him some loyalty, as he was not part of the group that mind-wiped him. I really wish we'd see more Aquaman, as I really would like to see his reaction and how his relationship with Bats would be. IMO, Batman needs another hero-ally out of the traditional League, as I really do feel bad for him, despite him acting like a jerk a lot. Glad to see Catwoman is included here too.

It's hard to say much without underplaying the fact that this story is where it's at right now. John's is the man, and if you want to know what's happening before Infinite Crisis, here is where you look. Can't wait for more.

Perceptions have changed a bit now. When Bats was the guy who had a way to take down the JLA, he was the paranoid control freak.

He still is, but with the mindwipe added, he's now a little more sympathetic. He's had a buried-in-his-subconscious reason to do it all this time.

No. Not at all.

In the past, he's been a genuine father figure to Dick Grayson and Superman's best friend. He's genuinely gotten along with his fellow JLAers, not just staying around to keep an eye on them. He's had girlfriends.

The obsessed loner Batman has been around for so long, though, it's easy for people to not know it wasn't always that way.

Girlfriends like Julie Madison, Vicki Vale?

Were he and Selina Kyle (Catwoman) ever involved or just friendly adversaries?
