not sure if anyone has already asked this question, but how long do we think, each issue of new series will feature 40 pages !!!???

for the first year ???

or maybe only the first story arc ???

or will we have 40 pages [ for the rest of it's run ??? ]

I definitely can't see this lasting more than a year unless the sales are spectacular.

We've had previous Legion artists that had trouble with deadlines on the book. I loved Jim Sherman's Legion it was stunningly beautiful artwork but he's said in interviews that he was such a perfectionist that he couldn't keep up.

I have no problem with fill-in issues or backup stories to take the pressure off the regular series artist once in a while. In fact, I really miss backup features.

Over the years some of the most important characterization moments took place in backup stories featuring solo Legionnaire tales or small teams stories. Duo Damsel's split color costume debuted in a Cockrum backup story, TimberWolf's addiction was first brought to light in a backup feature and so on. I like multiple stories in a book.

A fanboy can hope. Right?

Hi guys - It's only 30 pages of story for me to draw..which is still a lot, but not quite as daunting as 40.
I'll be doing my best to keep up! smile

thanks for getting back to us, Barry !!!

is there a plan, though ??? with regards to 40 pages per month ???

is it just the first 6 - 12 months, or a longer period ???

or is a case of ... we'll just have to see, with regards to sales, etc ???

btw are there any other monthly books out there with 40 pages .....

I think it is a new price point strategy from DC. Note that Detective Comics is also going to 40 pgs @ 2.95.

It should last at laeast until TPTB @ DC make a decision on rather is is halping, or hurting, sales.

I like the back-up feature. In 'Tec, we've had some great detective stories. Gotham Knights use to have b&w Batman stories. I still think Action should do the same thing, using a back-up to feature a member of the Superman family.

Flash could have a montly mini for Bart.
Grean Lantern could have a story of the Corps as a back-up. With a regluar back-up for Kyle, I'd actually buy the book.

Isn't that how most of the characters got to be popular?

I think Barry's post is about as close as we've gotten.

i like the backup feature concept too
Waid could easily keep up with that (and i'd wager he'd even be eager to have some kind of medium where his side-ideas can emerge - he does have a tendency to enjoy showing off that encyclopedic comics knowledge he has)
and it lets other artists play in the field

Is there any hope for text pages? Informational ones about the Legion, the UP, the characters, planets, etc. and/or character bits like entries in journals... 'letters' between characters... prose short stories?

I always like the Omnicom text pages they used during the TMK run. They often added some nice insight into the stories. I'd be in favor of seeing something like that come back in the new series.

30 pages is still ALOT. I think it makes all the difference in terms of rounding out a story (from the traditional length that is). In "The Sandman Companion" Neil Gaiman said a few times he was dissatisfied that he didn't get to express certain things he meant to get to in an issue (or visual elements), and it only took a few extra pages in the HC/TP collections to correct this.

And we have to assume there's ads. This isn't a special event, it's a monthly series.
