Just read this month's JSA. I think Dale Eaglesham did the BEST art I've seen on this book in some time (at least since Jerry Ordway filled in). In particular I LOVED his depiction of Courtney, who too often just hasn't been "cute" enough since she joined this team of has-beens! (heehee)

It was also nice to read a coherent story again, though I could have done without the INCESSANT flashbacks. Isn't there some other way to do things like that without continuously interrupting whatever action is currently going on?

I need to read this and the DOV Special asap. smile

profh011, we have similiar tastes. I've become a huge fan of Dale due to his Villains United mini! (though his legion back up was just "ok)

Also think Ordway JSA arc is what the JSA should look like all the time. Didn't know Dale did the latest issue...must have it.

I liked the issue just fine, and the art was a step up. VERY nice to see Liberty Belle in action (sort-of), as Todd stated.

Am TOTALLY excited about the Levitz arc... he was responsible for those excellent 70s All-Star issues that helped make me such a huge JSA fan.

Never even MIND Perez on the atrwork... who could ask for more?

I remember a story (in ALL-STAR SQUADRON or an annual) which explained how most of the JSA remained relatively young (including Joan Garrick and Lois Lane), but I don't recall if Liberty Belle was part of that group who was given the "eternal youth" treatment, so this might relate to Mystery Lad's comment...

A couple years ago in JSA Libby said that super-strength was what kept her young. "Nothing fights wrinkles like it!"

Just read latest issue. Liked it. Now that i know Star Girl is based on Geoff's sister that passed away I have more of a soft spot for her. (though I've always liked her) I love Alex Ross covers and I did a search on Geoff's sister Courtney and you can tell Alex used her likeness for the cover. Anyways, no more sad stuff.

Great issue. I never read Stars & STRIPE or Starman. Who is this new Shade guy? He's dressed like a magician of sorts. Courtney's biological father lived in Opal city do we know who he was? Is the Shade guy related any way to Courtney? Is the last Starman related any way to Courtney? Is the Shade guy related to Starman? Sorry for the questions.

Loved the focus of sorts on Liberty Belle. Since Golden Age (Robinson) I've really dugged her.

Jorge, I can't answer most of your questions (indeed, I don't know if the answers are available to us yet), but I have to say this: you need to get Starman ASAP, and reread those back issues! It is by far Robinson's masterpiece, on par with the Golden Age.

Shade is the Golden Age villain of Jay Garrick Flash, as well as the Silver Age villain of Barry Allen Flash, and has had countless other DCU appearances over the last 60 years. In Starman we learned *tons* more about him, including a 150+ history and some insight to his true motivations. He's truly loves Opal City more than any other. (No time at work to go into detail).

Anyone who hasn't read Starman has an enormous treat out there waiting for him or her. Best comic book of the 90's? I can't really think of anything better, except maybe for those of us who loved TMK...but even that was rebooted early in the decade, and it's best two years were in the 80's.

The only consistent feature of all of your dissatisfying relationships is you.

As previously mentioned, Shade does love Opal city and he's not really new. I just wanted to point out that he showed up during one of the Obsideon-evilness arcs in JSA. He was with Alan who was separated from his weird heart thingy and I think he ran into Courtney and Billy. He was also in Green Arrow because Ollie asked him to do some last request sort of things. So, yeah. Shade's kind of an anti-hero, I guess... not evil but not... good either.

We met him in the last issue of Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. but I think Courney summarized their meeting just fine in this issue of JSA. We knew very little about him-- about as much as Courtney, really. Which is, I believe, part of the point.

Not that we know of.

Nope. He gave her his rod thingy, though, because... well, for a few reasons that I don't want to spoil anything. The only issues of his series I've read are the last ones but, if they're any indication, the series was awesome. It should be noted that Courtney's cosmic belt thingy was, I believe, made by or improved on or... something by the original Starman, even though whats-his-face wore it.

Not that we know of. But the last Starman left Opal City in his charge when he headed out west.

I could. Specifically, I could ask for the Ross covers to continue until every member of the JSA gets that treatment.

We need Ross covers of Doctor Mid-Nite, Sand, Doctor Fate, Wildcat, Power Girl and Atom Smasher!

JSA 82

Maddening teases alongside fun, old-school adventuring. I have to be honest, I don't really want to see GA Supes, Bats and WW reinstated as JSA backbones. I liked the team and it's history the way that it was. Ah, well... I'll try to keep an open mind.

GENTLEMAN GHOST seems a different character every time out, lately. I love this grayish villain. I wish he, THE SHADE, BLACK ADAM and some other DC line-straddlers would get together for an adventure or two. Probably not as an ongoing team, though. GG *has* been presented as an out-and-out bad guy since his reintroduction in the current HAWKMAN. I still like to think of him as having some honorable impulses that aren't part of his sick manipulations of the Hawks.

I'm a bit over all the POWER GIRL attention. Where are SAND, HOURMAN and Dr. MID-NITE stories?

There's still a sourness lingering on my JSA taste buds over the treatment of Hector and Lyta, I fear. Hopefully, the OYL stories will dissipate the bad taste.

I'm with ME. JSA for me has nothing to do with the big three...though it was fun.

Though the fun did get old. A bit too wordy or something. The art was pretty cool but wish Perez didn't do the old school look as much.

I'm with ME also on Sand, Hourman, and Mid-Nite. And yes I am also very upset about Hector and Lyta.

When they "made" Hector into Dr Fate at the beginning of the series, they really seemed to make it like it was his destiny. Did he ever complete the task that was set to him? I honestly can't remember. It seemed like he barely got out from under Nabu's shadow and "BAM" (to quote Emeril) he's dead... all right he's in the dream dimension, never to return, yadda yadda yadda...

Lyta also never got any real time as a JSA member either. Really shoddy treatment of both. And coupled with Jade's fate, I'd have to agree with those who have said the Infinity Inc curse is back, in full force! frown

I almost forgot, I agree with you 100% on this CM! As much as I like the Levitz, Perez collaboration, they should have tried to get all the team done by Ross!!

I just noticed (updating my comics indexes yesterday) that JSA has changed EDITORS. Peter Tomasi (who's been in charge since the series began) has been replaced by Steven Wacker. Usually this means a general change in the tone or direction of a book, or in the creative teams. Anyone care to make predictions?

JSA #83

Gentleman Ghost is a favorite from the old HAWKMAN series (read in JLA reprints, I think...) and in BATMAN here and there. Every time he appears, he's handled a bit differently- which the creators might as well go ahead and make a facet of his character. I liked the scenes set in Jim Craddock's past... particularly the art in those passages. The 'haunting' of the JSAers was more problematic, for me. I liked the Mr. Terrific sequence, but JJ Thunder leaves me cold. I'd rather the Thunderbolt join on his own. Ah, well. I liked the Dr. Midnight scene, if only to see Charlie in action.

How did The Flash hear Joan's cries?

The ONE YEAR LATER aspect doesn't appear to really be a big part of this series, yet. I wonder about why the JSA hasn't been meeting-- and, of course, I want to know (now!) where Hourman and Sand, especially, are.

There was a bit in Green Lantern's dialogue that made me wonder about Molly's continued existence, too. I *really* hope she's still around. (And Sand).

The JSA has gotten a little distant huh? This seems more appropriate for a collection of heroes as opposed to a team.

It was cool to see Mid-nite get some spotlight, he's a favourite of mine. And Charlie!

Sand is my other favourite, so when we see more of him, I'll really be happy.

As for Flash, ML- there was a sot of her pressing a signal device to reach Jay. I missed it the first time too.

As for the Ghost... he's drastically different since his appearnances in Hawkman, or even JSA Classified. He's spooky, I get that. But his antiquated speech is tough to reconcile with the gentleman part.

Just spouting off.

I have mixed feelings on the OYL issue. On the one hand, I do like Gentleman Ghost and I really like seeing Dr. Midnite do more than just stand in the background for a change. I feel like he and Sand have been getting the shaft lately. Sand, where art thou!?! frown

I missed seeing Hourman and I would love to see Jesse just hanging around the Brownstone (assuming she's still working with the JSA all powerless-like)-- I like them together, what can I say?

I would also like to see Jakeem become a more fleshed out, 3-D character. He's one that I feel like could just use some more developing. Even when he's got a main role in an arc (that fill-in or the one where all the heroes were enslaved way back when), I still feel like he's not... complete, somehow. I can't really explain.

RE: Joan/Jay-- she did press a signal device, I think. That's what it looked like to me, anyway... on the second read through. A pendent of some sort. I found it curious that she saw the ghost, not Jay.

I was wondering-- the line-up of the JSA isn't supposed to change is it? Because Hawkgirl wasn't there either. I'm kind of on the fence for her sereis (more on the side of no), but I like Kendra and still wanna see her around...

If something had happened to Molly, wouldn't have Alan mentioned that Jennie and Molly were gone?

As for Rick and Sand, I sure hope nothing happened to them. I find them both infinitely more interesting than Pieter and Michael. Of course, Rick was an Infinitor and it does seem to be open season on them...

I've been pretty disappointed with Levitz's return to the JSA. I'm sorry, but my reaction to this Gentelman Ghost arc has been a big "who cares?"

And what's up with GL's insistance that ghosts don't exist and that they were all just imagining things.

Isn't his ring magical? How many ghosts has he fought/seen over the years?

The result of Day of Vengeance makes magic a mysterious force for even the most powerful and experienced mystics.

The days of pulling magic out like a Blackberry to send an email are done for a while at least.

And yes I was a little bit underwhelmed by Levitz' issues so far. Johns is coming back, but its been hinted that the Levitz issues will be the Yoko Ono for the team as it is now.
