...or should this have been published as GREEN LANTERN 4.5?
Still, I enjoyed seeing reserve member AIR-WAVE, who's apparently going to be playing a role of some sort in INFINITE CRISIS. It would've been interesting enough if the use of cell-phone tech disrupted the character's powers... I don't know that much about AW-- wonder if he'll be a supporting cast-member for Hal's series? If he makes it through IC.
THE RETURN OF DONNA TROY'S unfortunate lateness affects this issue. Apparently, she'll be moving New Chronus around gathering heroes. Donna's the MONITOR and HARBINGER in-one!
The Alan/Hal 'family' moment was nice; it's juxtaposition with the Fate/Fury cliffhanger, hinging on the words 'needs a father' was quite thought-provoking.
I would've liked more of the JSA-- heck, I would've enjoyed seeing more of the discussion about reservists. I'd like to see what the members there thought of the various characters they might 'call up' and just which ones they'd settle upon.
I think it'd be a mistake to let the Atom-Smasher storyline, in particular, simmer for long. I think he took a real step up, character-wise in the last few issues and it'd be a shame to see that development halted. He needn't be the focus, but his subplot should proceed.
And we really need to see more SAND and HOURMAN.

I agree with M-Lad. I would like to have seen more JSA. I would really love to know who exactly are the reserve team? Most of the ones I think of are JLA reserve members. Be cool to have some of the old Infinity Inc members join up, even some of the Freedom Fighters would be cool.

I've got to say, I've a real soft spot for B-list heroes and Air Wave has real potential. So this didn't bother me in the least because it also gave Alan some much needed screen time.

The JSA reserves were shown some time ago. I think it was in an OUR WORLDS AT WAR tie-in. Here's the list of reserve members appearing there:
Air Wave III S.T.R.I.P.E. Nemesis II Power Girl Shining Knight Vigilante III Black Condor II Ray II Iron Munro Jade Damage Patriot Phantom Lady II Dr. Occult Manhunter Mark Shaw
Take out Freedom Fighters, characters that have joined either the JSA or other team full-time, or been killed, and you're left with:
Air Wave III S.T.R.I.P.E. Shining Knight Vigilante III Iron Munro
Clearly, the JSA reserves need some beefing up.
I guess Rex Tyler, Jack Knight, Obisidian and Black Canary might be considered reserves. GA Harlequin, maybe?

I believe Rex is also. In theory Jack could be, but he gave his rod to Stargirl when he retired. Obsidian is currently without his powers. Molly Maynne Scott, the original Harlequin, to the best of my knowledge, no longer has her spectacles. They were stolen 'way back in Infinity, Inc.

I thought there was a line about Obsidian slowly regaining his powers? Right now, I don't remember where I read that line, though.
Molly briefly received nightmare powers from Neron during UNDERWORLD UNDLEASHED. Apparently, she gave them up when rescued from the underworld by Alan Scott
I REALLY wish there'd be a storyline focusing on the GA Harlequin. Or at least a subplot. I think her role as a nonvillainous villainess that snagged the hero is unique and fun.
It's all up in the air, though, when you're discussing a character whose schtick is illusion. Literally *anything* could be shown to be true (or not).
Who knows, maybe she is still a young woman physically casting an older woman's illusory appearance over her own body? Why she'd do that would be a storytelling problem.
I find her much more appealing than Phantom Lady II, who gets lots more play, or her latter-day pseudo-namesake, Harley Quin. Guess I'm in the vast minority...

I remember that there was a line somewhere where Dr. Mid-Nite said that Obsidian had asked him to help in getting his powers back, but, because they are magic-based, Mid-Nite said he would not be able to help.

What happened to the original Phantom Lady, Sandra Knight...was she Ted Knight's (Starman I)relative or has that connection been retconned since ZERO HOUR????

The connection has not been retconned to my knowledge.
It's likely she simply retired.

Sandra Knight last appeared delivering a eulogy at her cousin's funeral near the end of the Starman series.
Well the latest issue has me full of dread over the "fate" of some long-time members of the current JSA. However it fills me with hope that we may be getting a young Johnny Thunder back in some way. I love that goof-ball.

We meet Cei-U and his whole family in 5th dimension in this issue. One of the retcons that Geoff Johns makes through his inker who wrote this issue is quite interesting. (Come on you think Keith Champagne scripted this outside the watchful eye of Geoff Johns? That said KC does a good job.)

Was it Keith Champagne's arc that was supposed to feature two JSA characters who'd 'never be seen again'? I believe 'never be seen again' was the phrase used.
Hank and Lyta? Lord, I hope they're not the ones.
Shazam and Nabu? Fine with me.
Jakeem, Johnny Thunderbolt, Cei-U, Peachy Pet? Any of them wouldn't bother me *too* much.
Sand wearing Fate's helmet *does* have me concerned. Wasn't his absence after the 'Princes of Darkness' story enough? He's had next to no attention since his return!
Nice art and colors, here. Loved the moment where Mr. Terrific flew on two of his T-spheres. They're like the forerunners of the Legion flight rings!

This series is just impressive. Love it. I have loved all the covers that have been using 1 character at a time. Does anyone know if they will be in a poster like the JLA was?
Enjoyed the latest issue. Not to keen on the Peachy character. Had no clue Thundebolt had kids.

Is the Peachy character a ret-con of Johnny Thunder's adopted kid Peachy Pet? I hated that whole story. If it is, it can only be an improvement.

Don't know, but given everything going on, my guess it's Jakeem and the Thunderbolt that don't return.

It's kind of scary. I like Jakeem and can't imagine what would make him turn out like this. Then again, Mordru IS on the loose.

Oh my memory is going - what is Peachy Pet's connection to Johnny Thunder? Is she his daughter? Niece? What?

JSA 79

I didn't like the Jakeem storyline the first time I read it in LEGION LOST. Of the concurrent storylines, I'm much more interested in the Mordru/Nabu one. The art in the Fifth Dimension (wait- sixth? Is therein the plot?) story *is* pretty with nice colors. I like Stargirl's new costume (though I think I'd prefer red goggles...) The blood as liquid thing was kinda cool.
Back at Dr. Fate's tower, it was great seeing Sand and Wildcat take it to the big M. More of these, two!
Any theories about Hector and Lyta? Whatever happens, I hope that Lyta gets to meet her mother, the GA Fury- whose continued existence looks doubtful, given her prominence on an upcoming cover of INFINITE CRISIS. It'd be rotten if the pair is *never* shown together.

I'm not rushing to read this one. I love the JSA, but from what I understand happens this issue I am very unhappy.

I read it, and it seems fine to me. Nothing major awesome, but nothing terrible. Jakeem turns out to have been possessed by Qwsp. Saradin exorcises Qwsp and imprisons him in that vial of blood. Nabu, with some help from the returning Jakeem, defeats Mordru. And Lyta and Hec, or at least their souls, are brought to the realm of Dream.
