I know some of y'all are reading this great book about Xavier's current crop of students so I thought it deserved it's own thread. Here are some topics to get thread started: What do you think of the Laurie/Josh/Rahne situation? Do you think David & Sofia will be as effective as Dani & Sam were as co-leaders? Do you think Dani will be inclined to treat Jay differently then the rest of the squad since he's Sam's little brother? Do you wish Noriko would lose the baggy pants so she's be less likely to trip when using her super-speed?

I like this series quite a bit, though it's not quite as enjoyable for me as the previous one.
--the Laurie/Josh/Rahne situation? I prefer Rahne in MADROX, to be honest. The writers' take on her hasn't thrilled me. I like Josh, though... and Laurie.
--David & Sofia as effective as Dani & Sam were as co-leaders? Different, eventually effective. Sam oughtta be in this book over the crappy X-FORCE. And where's MAGMA!!!???
--Dani inclined to treat Jay differently then the rest of the squad since he's Sam's little brother?
Nah- if anything she'll be tougher on him.
--Noriko and her baggy pants
I just want a few more scenes between her and Cyclops. Otherwise, she doesn't do much for me.
I want to see more Sophia... and all those other 'teams' (esp. Northstar's! And Polaris's! LOL! Now there could be the seeds for some screwed up X-characters!
I'm a little perplexed by the most recent recruit. I sort of wish it could have been Doug Ramsey's ghost...

LOVE this book. Stuck with it through the crappy artists and title change and everything. D&W do a great job writing these kids believably. And after the artist round-robin, I'm happy with Clark's work. Still miss Randy Green's art, but at least he's still doing covers... Regarding the points made by AL: *What do you think of the Laurie/Josh/Rahne situation? Honestly, I wish they'd set up another threesome. About my only nitpick with D&W is their handling of Rahne. *Do you think David & Sofia will be as effective as Dani & Sam were as co-leaders?Better. It took Sam and Dani much longer to develop their leadership skills; At ther start, Dani was too afraid of misusing her powers and Sam was such a bumpkin! David and Sofia are very coolheaded, and David's a natural leader, while Sofia has the interpersonal knack needed. At this point in their schooling, they're much further along than Sam and Dani were. *Do you think Dani will be inclined to treat Jay differently then the rest of the squad since he's Sam's little brother? It could go either way... she could be harder on him, as ML said, because she expects more from him as Sam's brother... or she could show some favoritism, for the very same reason. *Do you wish Noriko would lose the baggy pants so she's be less likely to trip when using her super-speed? Nah, I'm just happy she's being drawn with tanktop sleeves... it used to look like the cutins were passing over flesh, which should have meant a nipslip or two... I was also happy to see Nuri "adopting" the ghost-boy from this arc; her father disowning her is brutal. Nice to see her trying to build her own family unit at Xavier's.

(No artist called Clark (first or last name) has worked on NM or NXAX) The current regular artist is Michael Ryan. And the merry-go-round is going to spin one more time - we get Paco Medina for a two-issue fill-in for 10 & 11 At least Ryan should be back for #12. And to twist this into another question, rather than answering any of them just now - how do you think everyone else'll take it (as individuals, I mean) when this comes into the open? (For the purposes of this question, assume they are NOT in pheromone range of Laurie ).

Eh. I was thinking of Matt Clark... he's the guy who drew the INHUMANS series awhile back.

just picked up the 1st trade and i didn't like it -- passing it on to my nephew
i'm not big on teen-heroes right now (as i'm in my 30s) as a genre (still enjoying Runaways, Street Angel, Demo), but nothing jumped out at me as particularly sharp, interesting or new about this view of the X

Which isn't a bad thing. It could be good for developing both characters, but I hope stay friends. I'm enjoying this series, but I'd like to see the teachers get a chance to cut loose for awhile. They're so busy being responsible that they don't seem to have any fun.

I agree that Dani will not take the situation well and I really don't want her and Rahne's friendship to end. I think this happening will end up drawing a wedge between Josh and the rest of the squad yet again. Sofia will be one of the most angry of course since she's Laurie's bestfriend. I have a feeling Kevin will be pretty glad Josh is "out of the way" but abandon plans to try to get closer to Laurie when he sees how generaly hurt she is. This will of course probably lead to a fist-fight between Kevin & Josh as various tvshows have taught me.

And Dani and Rahne will catfight in the fountain while wearing elegant eveningwear, if memory serves...

Assorted comments:
I’ve loved this series from the get-go and am enjoying even more these days.
I think my favorite characters are Josh and Sofia right now, and that’s saying something, since they all seem likable. I really like how Josh is written—he seems very human and very susceptible to making mistakes, but he’s trying.
I’m starting to really like the character Julian. I’m glad to see he’s given a little more depth than the ‘popular class jerk’, but I’m also glad they just revert him to ‘jerk with a heart of gold’. There are a few layers to his character, and I especially like the unmentioned but definitely there possibility of romance between him and Sofia.
I’m a huge Dani fan, so it’s always great to see her. Like Arachne, I’d like to see the teachers cut loose a bit more. I like seeing Shan a lot, and appreciate the scenes that show her to remind us she hasn’t been lost in the mix. I really wish they could add Amara back into the cast as well.
The large amount of kids at the school, and thus lots of other characters we see every now and then, has become a really cool part of this read for me. I like the ever-expanding cast, as we see a few more students here and there (although not necessarily part of the main cast). I like how the destruction of the school had *real* effects on the students here (barely even mentioned in the other X-Books). Hopefully, we won’t have to see the school destroyed again anytime soon.
Maybe it’s time for the appearance of another villain/antagonist? I like the villains myself, but I want this book to stay unique among the X-crowd, so if a villain does appear, I’d like it to be a unique situation as well.

What do you think of Justin Pierce? He's supposed to be Dani's new love intrest, but he seems pretty bland to me. I'd like to see her with someone more, I don't know, glamorous? (That's not the right word.) Of course, I'd like to see her involved with Shatterstar so my opinion on this can't be considered anything but questionable. (But would a team-up really be so much to ask for?) BTW Hellion fans, it looks like the Hellions are going to get their own miniseries written by Wier and DeFilipps. Maybe someday Dani'll get her own mini too.

Anyone read the latest issue? #10, I think?
Weird stuff, going on. I don't think what seems to be happening is, in fact, happening. If it *is*, this is pretty clumsily handled.
The writers haven't dropped any major balls yet, so I'm betting that the hands are fooling the eye.
Too bad one of my favorite teachers, who has only had a couple of low-key scenes in this book, now apparently won't be having *any* scenes in this, or any, book for some time (if ever...) Boooooo!
I wish Emma's appearances would be more limited... she's being spread almost as thin as Wolverine.

I think we're both thinnking along the same lines re: #10. At least the writers get to do the memorial for the late teacher. We can be pretty sure that'll be well handled. Down with Emma! More Dani!

Yeah, this storyline has "reset button" written all over it. And Josh has gotta start being wary of #10 issues. My money is on we left strict reality when Emma went into David's head. Everything after that is a mental recreation, teaching David a lesson of power corrupting.
And Emma isn't really starring in too many books, like Wolverine. She has an appearance here, an appearance there. In the varied X-Books, and this one in particular, it makes sense, since she *is* the headmistress.

J Don't forget Dani was there too and her power to make an illusion of your greatest fear. In other words "A hoax, a dream, an imaginary story"

I was a little disapointed with this issue. The art continues to be lackluster and the plot didn't have any surprises. And Dani still hasn't had a chance to kick ass. :7

TMI was the worst arc this book's had, basically. Bad fill-in art (granted, on this book, it's got some competition in that dept.) and more than half the story Unhappening at the end do not a satisfying read make.
