David Coverdale, Northwinds? I can only think of one other ex DP member and I remember you raving about this Coverdale album many many ( ) years ago so I'll go with this first.

I phoned Keith and asked him what your answer was most likely to be - he suggested that or Future Shock by Gillan, I remembered you letting me listen to this album about 18 years ago! Proof that an elephant really never forgets! Anyway, try this (and Numf, not a single genius black trumpetter in sight with this band, mores the pity ) I'm not afraid to die I'm not afraid to live And when I'm flat on my back I hope to feel like I did

Well, a day later and no takers Here's a clue - it's taken from a song on one of the most popular albums of 2000, by a world famous British rock group. More lyrics for you too - Who's to say where the wind will take you Who's to say what it is will break you I don't know Where the wind will blow Who's to know when the time has come around I don't want to see you cry I know that this is not goodbye

U2 are Irish, not British. (Are they from Northern Ireland? I can't recall.)

British Isles maybe.....
You're right - I ain't really a U2 fan - but where there's a will, and all that.......
I just asked Sonnie - ha ha!
So, to my quote:-
"On the news today, Say we've got something to fear, All the experts down at the Ball & Wheel say It can't happen here.
Turn around, There's a few new faces here in town, And sometimes I look, and sometimes I wonder, Is that..........."

The chorus goes something along the lines of:-
"Won't you tell me is that ............ Won't you tell me, is that how the deed was done? Won't somebody tell me, if that what you do for fu-u-un? Come on tell me, is that ........"
Where the .........'s are the songs title.
Clue- the name of a 1962 movie that was the first to use the three-camera panoramic system known as Cinerama. And if that's not a bit obscure then I don't know what is.

Nice try, B, but not even close.
Think more along the lines of saloons (and not the hairdressing variety....) than Pleasure Domes (is that a euphemism or what?). Gregory Peck, George Peppard, Debbie Reynolds.
Maybe I should try for the more instantly recognisable songs in future, and not just ones that pop into my head. What'dya say?

"We dug in at the beaches And fell from the sky, Don't mind us dropping in this way. We're amassed on your borders for a sight seeing trip And if we like it here we just might stay"
"So misunderstood - It's not equality we want It's just complacency we're after......"
It's from an album that was released circa 1985, but has only recently been issued for the first time on CD under its original title and artwork.
There was a "demo + solos" version released a few years back, called Wilderness Of Mirrors, but this song wasn't on it. (and no, it's not Fish)
The band in question normally has at least two, and sometimes three ex-UFO members in it.
Keith might remember seeing them support Iron Maiden in their Power Slave tour in 1982, with a Glaswegian called Fin on vocal duty with what looked like a small duvet stuffed down the front of his trousers. Incidently, for sheer balls, they blew Maiden off the stage.
B - go and wake Keith up and see if he can remember. But be nice, make him a cuppa (if you've got any milk that is.)

Was it Budgie?
(and no, I'm not brave enough to wake up Keith, he's worse than you when he first wakes up!)

Good guess. I can’t remember who Budgie supported, but it might have been UFO….. Nope, in fact it was Gillan. Just remembered. Double Trouble tour I believe.
I actually looked up a web site about Iron Maidens Powerslave tour, and it failed to mention this band in its list of support acts. But it did mention Queensryche. They had supported Dio on tour at roughly the same time, and I was a bit concerned that I had got the two mixed up, so I had to dig further, and finally came across another website by an Aberdonian, who had managed to get to the front of the stage at the Capitol gig that I / we saw them at.
Anyway, I’ve used up most of my quotes, and obscure hints, so it’s time for the reveal:-
The song is called “How The West Was Won”.
The band is Waysted, based around bass player Pete Way, with both Paul “Tonka” Chapman and Andy Parker having had spells (Tonka’s still there, I believe).
The album that it is taken from is called “Save Your Prayers”, which I read on a website on my trawl through yesterday as being “UFO meets Survivor”. It feature Danny Vaughn on vocals, instead of the afore-mentioned Fin. Fin returns for their new album.
Most of the tracks (and a couple more – Fortunate Son amongst them) were released on a CD called “Wilderness Of Mirrors”, but they were the demo versions (with DVs vocals much less polished) but with added Tonka twiddly guitars (which they say were missed off the original when they ran out of time in the studio). The demo version of HTWWW had been lost or damaged, so wasn’t included.
There was a limited edition re-packaged version available from Pete Ways website called “Your Prayers Are Saved” which also included a couple of tracks from UFOs 1983 tour.
Very recently issued on CD with the original cover etc. but including the demo versions of Fortunate Son and a B-side called Fire Under The Wheels. Just in time to whet our appetite before releasing their new album in Dec (I think).
I hoped that maybe my mention of Waysted on the other thread might kickstart someones memory……
Is anybody still reading?
One of my all-time favourite albums.
Anywayz people – B’s at least been trying to answer, so I’ll give her the next question.

Here's an easy one for you all
Ev'rywhere I hear the sound of marching, charging feet, boy 'Cause summer's here and the time is right for fighting in the street boy But what can a poor boy do except to sing for a Rock'N'Roll Band 'cause in sleepy London Town There's just no place for ...................!

Ken I'm going to wait a day and if no-one else has guessed I'll post a clue then ok? This is such a seminal RnR song that I'm not away to hand out the clues yet. (and you may have got the U2 one but this time I checked it was a band you didn't like )

Is it "Street Fighting Man?" It seems so likely, yet since nobody guessed it yet I'm feeling kind of like I must be missing something.

Scooter nails it, though technically I think it might've been Wings.
I was actually going to go with something R.E.M. but decided not to. I figure if I ever get desperate, I'll just make something up and claim it's from Murmur.

Well, wasn't Paul McCartney AND Wings anyway? I honestly couldn't remember if it was a solo or Wings release. This is a more recent song, off of one of my current favorite albums. Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time
