Yeah, if you wanted to be strictly respectful to relativity, all time travel stories would have to be causal loops. No paradoxes, no alternate timelines, no refugees from horrible futures which have to be prevented. Just depressing "I've caused the very thing I tried to avoid" stories ala Animal Man.

Did I say that? PLaying around with the future, or creating alternate realities is one thing. Wiping out the past while the "wave won't hit the 31st Century for anotheer 45 mins" is quite another. It's THAT sort of thing I find utterly inane.

My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hey, I didn't say causal loops were *bad*. I loved Animal Man. :-) Just saying, "effects without causes" includes interactions between alternate timelines, and pretty much any instance of changing the past. They can make for great stories, but do have that weakness from a scientific perspective.

The "wave won't hit the 31st Century for another 45 mins" thing, on the other hand, I would class as absolute nonsense--not merely scientifically iffy, but too meaningless to even have value as a story. I don't even know how I'm supposed to *feel* about the "ongoing destruction of the past", although I gather that it's bad.
