nope and nope.
Shiny, it is nothing with an obvious thematic name connection. Xben, it is not from Threeboot.

Nope. Again, see my note that it is NOT an obvious thematic reference. NO Dark, Night, Shadow or anything of the sort in the title.

I'm trying to ignore that. You seem to think the fun is in being right and not in making as many wrong guesses on the theme as possible. I was hoping to make them increasingly unlikely as I went along, but it turns out there aren't as many titles in classic literature on that theme as you'd think. So no gradual buildup to Dark Shadows.

keep in mind, 'classic' from Tasmia's point of view - not necessarily ours.

Keep in mind, not necessarily trying for the right answer!
And dammit! The ones I'm pulling from memory keep turning out to be plays.

Hint: she was discussing it with someone from the 20th century who had never met her before this story.

I have a hunch this is going to be one of those really ironic answers, so...

nope. this book predates both Harry Potter and Hunger Games, but by less than a decade or two (respectively). And has not been made into a movie (although there is an unrelated movie of the same name).

Kent has it! It was Karate Kid, trying to make a point to Ultra Boy in the early v5 days as you successfully recalled.

Who, in 20th century chronology, was the first Legionnaire to ever meet a not-yet-Legionnaire who used the name El (Superboy, Supergirl or Mon-El)?

Obvious answer (and therefore probably wrong): Lightning Boy/Lad.
