The LSH #39 cover is gorgeous.

For a minute I thought Rainbow Girl was Vi. Ah, well. BTW, is the first issue of that story going to be reprinted? It was sold out in 2 days at my comic shop.

It was always a treat seeing Barry's stuff in-progress, so yes, thanks to Francis for continuing that tradition and sharing his developmental work steps with us!

The LSV as 31st Century Justice League was also standing in front of a Superman symbol or two a couple of issues before this new Action cover... so that doesn't necessarily mean the "Rejects" are on the side of angels (but I'm hoping they are).

I was worried they might be bad guys.
Me too. Frank, while I prefer his art to many others out there, tends to make his faces (mouths and eyes, in particular) look pretty sinister. He'd draw a *fantastic* Joker, I'd imagine, but a person who *isn't* supposed to have a maniacal grin and wide staring eyes ends up looking a little manic...[/b]
So the Squadron Supreme weren't actually evil? I saw the coves and always thought they were evil! (jk, i read some of it and THEY WERE evil)

A return to Orando! Wonderful - and beautiful cover. I wonder if the unexpected ally was someone (or something) was left alive there.

It's interesting that the Subs are now officially the Rejects. Wearing their status proudly - or just stuck with what other people call them.

I don't think I've been so excited about LSH stuff since the advent of the Bierbaums/Sprouse LEGIONNAIRES and DnA/Coipel on THE LEGION.

Between the ACTION arc and S&M on LSH, I'm having excitement overdose!

I don't mind that.
It was hilarious when Giffen used them for comedy but the characters were defined by their ineptness forever afterward. In fact the Keith Giffen defined Subs are the ones we see in the cartoon because they're so darned funny...and cute.
I'm happy to see someone dare to use a set of characters that Giffen did so much work with in a way that treats them as serious people again.
The Legion of Substitute Heroes were a serious group at one time (and the butt of endless jokes at others) and it's going to be fun to see them in a tale where they're slick and effective and kick nass...oh yeah, they have new outfits too!

YK, I agree. I don't mind them being used to kick-nass at all. Infact I usually would prefer it. Though I love the Giffen/cartoon versions. Even in v4 when they were kicking nass they had a softer side to them.

The crazy eyes through me off. smile

I thought the SUBS found some redemption after Giffen's "BWAHAHAHAification" (back in the 1980s) with their underground military efforts V4, under the leadership of Jacques Foccart and Troy Stewart. They were capable, effective, and fighting the good fight against the Dominion when even the Legion had disbanded.

It would be a nice nod to that time if Johns portrays them in a similar fashion. smile

Both you and Matthew hit the nail in the head. The latest cover worried me a bit. Is this a Levitz type team or a v4 team? smile

I like the art but don't love it. They certainly look rough. I know they are suppossed to be on the run so it's ok.

Well, it's a team on the run in a dark world, so looking weary and tired seems right. I hope it's just for this storyline, not a permanent thing.

I really don't like gore anywhere, and -I know I'm digressing a little - I'm still amazed how so many people all over the world object to a little nudity but take blood and gore and ripped-out arms and legs in stride.

Violence is necessary for dramatic/storytelling purposes but excessive and gratuitous violence offends me.

Anyway, back on topic. The preview pages and solicitation text show the League of Rejects that seems to be the "lawful" team on Earth.
The cover of #862 shows characters we know as Subs. Could the solicitation text refer to Spider Girl, Earth (Absorbancy Boy) Man, and the others, but NOT the Subs and Rainbow Girl? wink

Fire Lad, Stone Boy and Chlorophyll Kid are all established 'aliens' (Mardu, Shwan and, uh, somewhere else-not-Earth). Assuming that Rainbow Girl is also not from earth, then these 'Subs' wouldn't be eligible to be members of the Rejects 'no aliens allowed' club.

So they would likely be 'good guys,' part of some resistance group to the xenophobes.

The Subs were great as Subs, and they were great as SUBS in 5YL - those characters are just made for exploring. The fact that they stood always on the sidelines (except for Polar Boy later on) made them so damn interesting when they were actually featured as "stars" later on. They could do excellent comedy (Ambush Bugs visit anyone???), but they showed that their power were way better than what people thought...

So I guess they rather establish those new/old Subs as the last reserve when everything looks down for the Legion - "who you're gonna call? Subsbusters!"

I think the idea with the disgruntled Legion rejects is not new, but kind of cool. To look up all those characters in the Archives alone is pure fun smile

As for the Squadron Supreme... off topic... that's totally complicated. The current ones are meant to be good guys. The classic Maxi-Series by Gruenwald made the frontiers between good and evil disappear, a rather philosophical/political approach. In classic Marvel stories, there were the original good Squad guys, and the clones/copies/whatever bad guys made by the Controller or other villains. Kind of difficult to keep track.

Watching the cartoon, I remember seeing Color Kid throwing 'magenta' or whatever at Superboy and it being completely inneffective, and thinking, 'Good thing they aren't outside. Turning the yellow sunlight to red would really suck for Superman...'

I'm just really happy that the fallout of Projectra losing her homeworld will be explored. Waid did have that one scene where Starboy checked in on her, but then he spent the rest of the time focusing on Supergirl, thus leaving a major unresolved issue out there.

So more reason for me to be excited about Shooter's run (plus I like Projectra, as long as she doesn't faint)

It will be nice to see Projectra turned around and made into a serious character again, instead of the Paris Hiltron-esque 'money but no talent' portrayal we got from the threeboot.

There was a certain on-the-nose quality to having a 'Lester Spiffany' in the Legion, highlighting how this Legion was so much lower in standards than the ones that came before it, that they'd recruit a member and play along with the idea that she's 'one of them' (while keeping her safely tucked away) just to soak her for cash.
