Name four Legion rejects, pre-boot, who were clearly created as jokes rather than as serious characters.

Plaid Lad, The Mighty Macaw, X-Bomb Betty and... Barbershop Boy (the one with the scissors for hands)?

Blacula got two of the ones I was thinking of - Macaw was post-boot, and X-Bomb Betty had a genuinely useful (if limited) power, and more so, her tryout was important as a long-term plot point (the favoritism based on looks).
I don't think Infectious Lass, Double-Header, etc. really were created as jokes. I could be wrong of course, and I suppose some of them were used to humorous effect, but it didn't seem that the creators were engaging in mockery of the process, as with Barber Boy, Plaid Lad and the other two I'm thinking of (hint: they did not appear in the Legion's own book).

Those are the other two I was thinking of.
Since Blacula was first with his two, though, I'll give him the next question.

Were Arm Fall Off Boy and Estimate Lad from the Secret Origins (of the HQ) issue? I was trying to think of who was in that comic but couldn't get my mind past Fortress Lad.
OK gimme a minute to think of a question.

Preboot, which Legionnaire was also a part-time actor?

Hi Chaim
Ultra Boy? A part-time actor? In which era was this thought up?

Would that be Sun Boy from the time just before the reboot? I didn't read the Legion then, but wasn't he a holovid personality at least?

It's probably Chameleon Boy, who had to interrupt filming of his role as a movie monster once to answer a Legion call.
As I recall, two of the Legionnaires (Violet and Gim, unless I'm mistaken) were also shown playing themselves in a movie before they were captured by the Scorpio gang.
And of course Ultra Boy was revealed by TMK to have been into theater before joining the Legion, which facilitated his pretending to be the "dumb jock" throughous most of Legion history. I don't believe, however, he moonlighted as an actor while a member of the Legion.

Oh wait! It's Supergirl. She was in a soap opera. Yes, yes. it may not be who Blacula was thinking of, but here's proof The next change will be in SUPERMAN FAMILY 208 (July 1981) when Supergirl moves to New York to be an actress in the TV comedy "Secret Hearts" untill she will miss her student life and will go to Chicago to the Lake Shore University when she will stay till the last adventure in SUPERGIRL 23.

It was indeed Chameleon Boy I was thinking of, as was revealed in Adventure #338 in the scene Eryk describes above.
I think legionadventureman was the first to guess him though so next question to him.

The first Lesla Lar story features a mind-wiped Supergirl in the Bottle City of Kandor being hired to star in a movie about herself!

Who knew so many Legionnaires had aspirations of movie-stardom!?! Next time I'll research my question a bit better!

Come to think of it, Pete Ross's first appearance features him convincing Clark to portray Superboy in a school play...
