Yes Jim, it was Jim!
I saw him at a store signing back when he tried to launch Defiant Comics. Most folks were having him sign Valiant books or the new Defiant stuff. I dropped Adv #346 in front of him and asked for the sig.
He perused the issue and said he got to sign an Adventure era book from "time to time". His collaborators with Defiant, artist David Lapham I believe it was, teased him about some of the campy dialogue. Hey, whadda ya want from a thirteen year old kid?
I know Shooter has gotten a lot of criticism from folks for his editorial methods and decisions, but looking at him as a Legion creator, I have to have a lot of respect for the guy! He was what most of us wished we could be...a fanboy turned comic book writer!
Go Jim! (Gallagher)

Sorry I took so long. I've been away from my computer a few days. Here's a gimme to move things along:
While we're on the subject, who pencilled Adv. 346?

Okay, but who pencilled it AND got it published? And why on Earth did they use HIM?

I think Swan pencilled it, but Sheldon Moldoff did the inks. Is that what you mean, Jim?

Nope. Swan only did the cover. If you guys look at the issue it's obvious that it's not Swan's work.

Ok, did Moldoff do the pencils? Or maybe George Klein?

I believe 13-year-old Jim Shooter himself did the pencils on that first issue of his. That's how he sent his his "audition".

CMK is correct. Jim Shooter is the answer again!
I can't believe they used his art. Such a great story that introduced so many great characters and the art was crap. At least it had an awesome cover though.

Ah, the art wasn't that bad. Swan it wasn't, but it certainly wasn't (IMHO) any worse than Win Mortimer's. I kind of cringe at that Taurus Gang issue's art.

Oh, yes...I'm supposed to ask a question now, right?
Try this: When Universo outlawed the Legion, he had Superboy put in chains of Kryptonite and Mon-El in chains of lead. What did he chain Ultra Boy with?

I believe they radiated a special type of radiation that nullified Jo's powers.

The paralyzing thought that one day, postboot, he would have a hyper-aging child named "Cub"?

I'll give lancesrealm the next question, because the chains were described as being "radioactive." That doesn't necessarily mean they canceled out Jo's powers, though. There's no indication (other than that very issue) in Legion history that there's any form of radiation that actually cancels Jo's powers.
My pet theory had always been that by chaining Ultra Boy with something radioactive, they were effectively, not actually, preventing him from using his powers. He'd be forced to leave his invulnerability turned on, and thereby be prevented from swicthing to an offensive power that he could have used for escape.

Actually, unless I'm mistaken it was established that Jo was affected by "radiation" in much the same way Kal was affected by Kryptonite or Mon by lead as early as the Nero/Hitler/Dillinger story. Levitz also had him make reference to the fact that radiation could hurt him even when invulnerable somewhere early in v3 (I believe during the Lost Legionnaires follow-up to the LSH-LSV War).

Eryk, there's nothing wrong with your memory. I remember those situations as well. (All the while, chuckling at Craig's answer...wish I'd thought of it.)
Ok, here we go...
Who discovered/invented the substance used in the Legion flight rings? (Note: Across all continuities, there are 3 different answers. Name them all.)

Ummm... preboot Mon-El discovered/invented the material.
Postboot, Brainy created the metal, but it was Lyle who discovered the possibilites of what Querl thought of as waste.
That do?

I think the obvious ones are Brainiac 5 and Invisible Kid... and for the third I'll guess - Supergirl?

There is still one missing - I'll check out the exact issue tonight and post a hint, but there was a third discovery of anti-gravity metal discovered early in Legion history. Who discovered it?

Oh, yuck!! I can almost picture the issue you are talking about lance. I'm thinking it was Superboy, but it's partially poor remembery and partially a guess.
And quite frankly, shouldn't Cos have discovered an anti-gravity metal? Or Ayla during her "Light Lass" era...
