To escape him she fled into the waters of her river where she pleaded the gods for help, and they changed her into a reed. Disappointed at her escaping from him, Pan cut the reed into pieces of gradually decreasing lengths, fastened them together with wax and thus produced the shepherd's flute, or "pipes of Pan", upon which he plays.
Which venerable space am I talking about and who sang about it?
A sacred space is a temple and Syrinx was the name of the water nymph who Pan chased. As 2112 is a fairly seminal rock album I was sure at least one of you would be up on your classics and know of the legend of panpipes and put the two together. Guess I shouldn't base my q's on Guardian cryptic clue formats in future :0

I'll get back to you later with a question. I'll try not to make it too obscure this time maybe

Oh Bother! I knew I'd forgotten something. Oh well, the only question that springs to mind is an easy one, and if no one gets this quickly I'll be handing out homework Which song is reputed to have been written on a napkin in a burning casino in Montreux, Switzerland? If you guess it just ask a question, you shouldn't need me to tell ya!

12 sprockin' minutes later!!!!
correct LL
I thought it was pretty cool that he was really into the band, always praising them and then finally performing with them. They wrote some songs together, at least i believe it was written with neil young, an ep MERKIN BALL, or something like that. I will have to look that up later.
Youre up

The original frontman for this great Prog band had a one word name. Name the band and the singer.

Wow. I actually thought that one might take longer. I don't remember anyone bringing up Marillion before so I thought it was a safe one.
Over to you Mr. Ester.

Oddly enough, I posted the lyrics to "Heart of Lothian" in another thread a week or so ago.
I'm a little bummed because I just missed Marillion's first American tour in forever.

The director of one of the business divisions I work with took a few weeks off and followed them around to a few cities. He's planning on doing the same when they go to Canada.

While we're on the subject of Fish, he was originally scheduled to record a rock opera based on a classic work of American literature with one of his prog idols, but was dropped from the project because their voices were too similar. Name the idol, and the title of the work.

I not only missed Marillion, but I had to miss the Nektar/Caravan show as well, even though the place they were playing was about 10 minutes from where I live. Happy the Man are doing a reunion show here next month, and I hope to make that one.

Like I wouldn't know that one Eryk. That was supposed to have been with Peter Hamill on one of most favorite author's greatest works, The Fall of the House of Usher. I think that Andy Bell wound up replacing Fish.
