Definitely not apathy. The NWOBHM just isn't one of my strong suits. If someone hasn't figured out a question of mine within a few days, I'll post a hint to see if that jogs some memories (or search engines).

Thanks OM. I had thought of that - but I couldn't think of any clues, which is why I resorted to giving the answer. Hadn't thought of the search engine option.
I'll try to come up with a (preferably non NWOBHM) question sometime today.

Dammit, wish I'd read this earlier I knew the Samson answers - guess growing up listening to your musical taste made an impact on me after all Ken.... Bruce Bruce indeed, didn't Giff call the Tasmanian Devil that in JLI? And Ken, while on the Samson/Mammoth train of thought didn't one or t'other of them do "Dont get mad get even"? I seem to remember you and Steve J banging on about how it was the most rocktastic album since sliced cheese...

Yep, Keith, you're right - "Don't Get Mad, Get Even" was in fact the follow up to "Before The Storm" by Samson.
Whilst checking up info / confirmation on my question previously, I found out that Paul Samson (and not Simon, as I first typed) died a few years back. I believe it was from cancer.

Anyway, new question:-
Name the only two Australians in the original AC/DC line up (I think the only two ever).

Phil Rudd and the one who wasn't Bon Scott or one of the Young Brothers. Do you want me to raid Alan's CD collection to get his name?

Well, that was kinda the point Harbi....
But, I'm so impressed that a big girlie like you managed to remember Phil Rudds name that I'm gonna give it to you.
To save you rummaging, the bass players name was Mark Evans.
The Youngs were born in Glasgow. Bon was born in Kirriemuir, Perthshire. (They do a pretty decent ginger cake there.) Cliff Williams is, I believe , from Manchester. BJ is a Geordie. And I've got no idea where the other drummer , Chris Slade?, is from.
Your shot, and none of your girlie nonsense.

Old Satchmo. Louis Armstrong. And I remember that from the Louis Armstrong Park tour on our visit to New Orleans.

Well done LL. However, I have to ask, Harbi, since when was Ol’ Sasquatch R’n’R? I refer you to the thread title at the top of the page. A damned fine horn blower, and he may well have known exactly how Xmas trees are grown, but the man sho’ wa’nt no R’n’f’n’R. He was in High Society for Gawds sake! With Bing and Frank. I think this q&a should be stricken from the records, and a decent rock ‘n’ roll question asked. If we let this past the censors then she’ll be asking us about bassoon solos next! Who played the timpani in the debut rendition of the 1812 overture? See what I mean about “girlie” questions? And you thought I was just picking on poor li’l Harbi. Blues/soul music has trumpets, latin american dance music has trumpets, big band music has trumpets, but I can’t think of a single “rock” band that has used a trumpet at all, let alone had one permanently in the mix.(Am I opening flood gates here?) Saxophone, yes – they’re sexy. Trumpet, no. I suppose he sounded, vocally, like Dan McCaffrey / Bruce Springsteen. Except smoother. That was his problem, he didn’t gargle with gravel chips! Anyway, I’ll get off my soap box and let you get on with the show – your shot LL.

Miles Davis. [/b]I must confess I'm not familiar with his oeuvre (or Dyson for that matter ). I'll take your word for it. But is it r'n'r?

Without Blues and Jazz we would have no rock. Without Dippermouth (another of Armstrong's nicknames) Blues and Jazz would have last one of the true greats who kept the music alive. Now on to my question, unless anyone has a problem with that. What frontman for two popular Alt-Rock bands was recently rumored to be up for the part of Lex Luthor in the next Superman film? And name the two bands he fronts.

I don't really know.
But I will offer up Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A Perfect Circle because that would just be really, really odd.

"Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."
Even the oddest is correct at times. Maynard is indeed who I was looking for. Back when the rumors of Beyonce playing Lois were getting started, Maynard (along with Johnny Depp) was being rumored for the role of Luthor.
Next to you OM.

Well, whadda ya know.
OK, hopefully this'll be short and sweet:
The relative failure in America of what single caused Phil Spector to announce his retirement from the music business?

Well, so much for short and sweet.
Hint time: The act that recorded the single went on to have several hits, including a big one with a cover of a John Fogerty song.

Another hint:
The act was a couple. They broke up. She eventually went on to massive success. He....didn't.

Peters and Lee Renee and Renatta oh gawd how awful where they? No, but seriously now folks, the only couple I can think of is Sonny and Cher. Please tell me it was the ugliness that was "I got you babe" that caused Phil Spector to retire - somebody needed to lose there job for inflicting that song on the world

I would love to tell you that Phil was driven from the industry after that single but, alas, that was not one of his. Nor are Sonny and Cher the act in question.
Good guess, though.

If no one gets by tomorrow, I'll give the answer since I'll be bailing for San Diego.
Another hint: The male half of the couple played on what many people consider to be the first ever rock 'n' roll record.
