That's the answer! (Paul Kantner was the band member who wanted to use that title; he always did have a weird sense of humor.)
You're up, O Wretched One!

Excellent question, HWW.
Now for mine:
Who said, "The only black magic [his band] got into was a box of chocolates"?

I'm going to guess Santana ("Black Magic Woman").

After playing at the Monterey Pop Festival, Jimi Hendrix was booked as the opening act on the North American tour for this band. Jimi was booed off the stage in NYC during the 7th show of the tour. He decided he'd had enough, quit the tour and then started headlining his own shows.
name the band he opened for

With new lyrics, the Italian song "O Sole Mio" became what hit for Elvis Presley?

Right, I'm back. Sorry for the delay.
What is the name given to the group of session musicians who played on scores of hit records, including for acts like the Beach Boys, The Byrds, and Sonny & Cher?

A clue you have requested, and a clue you shall receive.
At times they counted Leon Russell and Glen Campbell among their members.

Clue #2: They share the name with a group of minor Marvel comics villains.

Though largely unknown, the late Robert White played one of the most recognizable guitar intros in rock 'n' roll history -- on what song and for what group?

Aaaargh.
OK, I know there was a Robert White who did sessions for Motown in their heyday, but I don't know which records he played on.
Assuming it's the same guy....I'm guessing "My Girl" by The Temptations.

That's one hell of a guess, OM. You got it!
The sad coda is that, shortly before his death, White was in a restaurant with the author of the book "Standing In the Shadows of Motown." When the waiter came over to take their order, "My Girl" came on the radio. White started to tell the waiter that that was him playing, but then changed his mind. Who would have believed him?
The author (whose name escapes me) recounts this exchange in the film, "Standing In the Shadows of Motown," which is a must-see for anyone interested in the musicians who actually made the music that made Motown famous.

I've really got to see that movie someday.
Guys like White, Earl Van Dyke, James Jamerson, and Benny Benjamin were such a huge part of the Motown sound. I think they could have been as big as Booker T. and The MGs had Motown promoted them.
I don't have a question right now, I'm afraid. I'll try to have something tomorrow evening.

Very true. Motown had every reason NOT to promote them, as they made the music for next to no pay and got absolutely no recognition. When Motown moved to Los Angeles in the early '70s, they were left behind, not even to be mentioned or invited to appear at Motown's 25th anniversary gala in 1983.
