I knew just about everything but the guy's name, I guess.
OK.
When King Crimson were recording their second LP, their managers booked a singer to appear on the record. When Robert Fripp heard the guy sing, he decided his style was completely wrong, and cancelled the session. Who was the singer?

Yep. Elton got paid, too, even though he never recorded anything for the band.
Over to you, EDE!

Continuing with Fripp's opinions on vocalists:
What singer did Fripp describe as having done for the voice what Hendrix did for the guitar?

Aargh. I should know this one.
I'll take a wild guess and say Peter Hammill of VDGG fame.

God, I'm good. Name the band whose drummer was the stepfather of the guitarist/vocalist.

Spirit. Drummer Ed Cassidy was stepfather to the guitarist, the late Randy California.

Clue time: The band leader in question didn't actually go anywhere. He just changed his name.

In which case, I will guess Roger (formerly Jim) McGuinn of The Byrds. If memory serves, he even cut a CD called Back From Rio or similar.

You got it, OM. When Jim changed his name, the popular rumor was that he had gone to Rio and left his "brother," Roger, in charge of The Byrds. The title of Back From Rio was a homage, of sorts, to the rumor.

A Clue then: The song was performed at the Rolling Stones' Rock and Roll Circus.

Thanks! I just couldn't resist that answer. Things went okay but we are far from done. We still have a ton of stuff to move from the apartment and will probably work through the weekend to get it completed.
Name the ladies to whom these rock lyrics refer and give the band's name (I'm looking for two songs by two different bands):
"Catholic girls have thrown away their mascara, they chain themselves to the axles of big mack trucks, the sky is filled with hurt and shivering angels, the fat lady lives, children start your trucks..."
"And you will feel her love bullets when you look her in the eyes, there ain't no way to escape, and that's when her fever will materialize, but it ain't no unfortunate fate..."
