You're up LL. It was the classic Eno-Cale-Nico-Ayers album I was after.

Here's a fun one. Name the band that took its name from an adult toy mentioned in the William Burroughs novel "Naked Lunch."

Name two lead singers of Wainwright's Gentlemen who went on to bigger groups.

OK, clue time:

One of the singers was in one of the groups mentioned in my previous trivia question. The other was a member of one of my recent ingredients in the "Rock-n-Roll Alphabet Soup" over on The Anywhere Machine.

Second hint: They're both British.

Third hint: One is still alive.

Brian Connolly who went on to Sweet (Ballroom Blitz!) and I think the other was Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, among others.

You win again, LL! Brian Connolly, of course, passed away several years ago.

Didn't he have the reputation, before his death, as the man who had survived more heart attacks than anyone alive?

Anyway, I'm getting ready to head out from work so it'll be a bit before I post the next question.

I hadn't heard that. But then, my knowledge of The Sweet ends about the time they broke up in 1981. I remember hearing about guitarist Andy Scott forming a new version of the band a few years later, and then, out of the blue, came news that Connolly had passed away in '97. He was followed two years ago by drummer Mick Tucker.

A sad end for a band that recorded some of the catchiest bubblegum rock in history: "Little Willy," "Fox On the Run," "Love Is Like Oxygen" (recorded after they ditched the bubblegum label) and, of course, "Ballroom Blitz."

What Detroit band was named after a 1942 novel about a Brooklyn street gang and featured a real madman on guitar.

That would be The Amboy Dukes, which featured the "Motor City Madman," Ted Nugent.

Now where were we? Oh, yes ...

Don't Shoot Me -- I'm Just the Bass Player!

Each of the following played bass in a band that went on to become famous, but left or was sacked before enjoying the fruits of their labors. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to identify the bands that Pete Bested each bass player:

a. Bob Brunning
b. Bob Harvey
c. Harry Kakoulli
d. Andre Cymone
e. Ron McGovney
f. T.B. Player

Eight hours and no takers? Maybe it's clue time.

One of the above is a metal band.

Two first became famous in the '60s.

One is a backup band for a usually solo star.

Two are British.

One doesn't really exist.

f. T.B. Player - Doesn't this stand for The Bass Player?

Well done, Scott. Four out of the six are correct, which makes you the default winnah.

Andre Cymone was the original bassist of Prince & The Revolution.

T.B. Player was the original bassist of The Wonders, the fictional band in "That Thing You Do." His name is never mentioned in the story; it's only seen in the "Where are they now?" feature at the end. (See how sneaky I am? wink )

I wouldn't have counted ol' T.B. in the scoring, if it had come to that. I just wanted to see if anyone recognized him. laugh

Never saw That Thing You Do so I would never have gotten that one.

Okay, what famous trio does Gary Lee Weinrib belong to?

I would guess that to be the real name of Geddy Lee of Rush.

(P.S.: Surely somebody besides me has seen that Wonder-ful movie!! It's a hoot for anyone interested in '60s rock.)

And you would guess right HWW. Back to you.

BTW, Caroline and I are probably the only two people in UT to have not seen that movie. Very big here in Happy Valley. Probably because it wasn't rated R.

OK, here's another toughie: What band poked fun at people who look for secret messages in rock music by recording backwards a phrase found on the U.S. dollar bill, and on what album did they have this little bit of fun?

OK, here's your hint: The album in question is a concept album about rock 'n' rollers being persecuted by right-wing, religious zealots.
