Lyla was Harbinger. From memory, she was the monitor's Gal Friday. She was also an orphan that the Monitor raised.

Hint for the other character: This character, like Green Lantern was reinvented for the Silver Age.

Flash? He's the obvious reinvention. But I would have though he was inspired by... Flash. Same thing with Black Canary II being inspired by her mother (although I guess in a way she was inspired by all the JSA).

Also to make clear, the reinvented character was not inspired by Green Lantern, only the Golden Age version.

Ermm... I have a vague feeling that it might have been Johnny Thunder but I could be making that up completely. Either him or the original Black Canary, but I think she got into it because of her hubby and in fact started as a baddie or something.

I believe that Ted Grant just saw an issue of Green Lantern. Ma Hunkle heard Scribbley talking about Green Lantern when her daughter & Scribbley's brother got kidnapped. She asked who Green Lantern was, got a gleam in her eye, and soon the Red Tomato er Tornado appeared.
