Depends if the self-contained Contest of Champions mini counts as a "mega-crossover" or not, I suppose.

CoC is considered the first of the Mega-Crossovers in my thinking, Reboot.

And while I can't absolutely SWEAR to it, I do think the occasion I have in mind was a bigger gathering than that Avengers story.

Remember, this was a huge gathering of heroes AND villains.

Another Green Lantern question from me (what can I say, I'm brimming with enthusiasm for Hal's return!):
Part of the wildly inconsistent portrayal of the abilities of the GL ring over the years includes its ability to speak. In one issue, Hal explains that the ring was never actually able to speak on its own - he only thought it could. What was his explanation for where the voice came from?

There's no real way to hint at it, so I'll just give the answer -- he explained that it was his own subconscious that was giving voice to the ring (which has been retconned since then).
