Nope and nope. Here's an extension to the analogy that should provide a hint. Michelangelo:Giffen::God :Adam:???

RJ Brande?
your clues still could make any human male an appropriate choice.
The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

Matthew can explain his own reasoning, but here's how I interepret the clues:
The commonality is opposites. Michaelangelo was a more realistic or conventional artist; Giffen is more abstract. God is, according to most faiths, the Creator of the Universe and a benevolent diety; Darkseid is an evil deity and destroyer of many things. Adam was the first man on earth and progenitor of the human race; the Time Trapper is the last being on earth and, as a force of entropy, the end of everything.
Of course, I could be grasping at relational straws.

I can't really see 'opposite' as a commonality. Giffen may not be naturalistic as a renaissance artist, but does use representational imagery. A complete abstract artist would be closer (if one accepts the rather dubious premise that naturalistic and abstract are opposites. I would suggest someone anti-art entirely would be a better choice, or even someone clearly lacking in visual expression). There is no clear consensus on what any god or God is, and the capitalization suggests the Abrahamic god... as described in the old testament, he is hardly an opposite of Darkseid
if Adam is a first man (even in terms of metaphor), he is generally first mortal human (as opposed to animal or angel), and the Trapper isn't really mortal.
my interpretation has been chronological; one precedes and influences the later, which is why I see it as very vague. My interpretation clearly lacks a clear solution for the Adam clue, but if "opposites" are indeed the commonality, I would suggest the entire clue structure is problematic, if not incorrect.
The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

Good points, Kent. I'll defer to your understanding of art. As for God and Adam, the connections are, admittedly, loose, but since we're trying to find an answer that relates to the Legion, I'll stick with the Time Trapper for now. Just for the sake of argument, though , I don't see how Adam "precedes and influences" R.J. Brande. Depending on the continuity, Brande was either a Durlan or (possibly) a Martian (unless the threeboot did something different with R.J., of which I'm not aware). I suppose R.J.'s role in founding the Legion could be compared to Adam's role in starting the human race, but the matters of scale and method seem troubling to me.

After researching Michelangelo, I have an alternate answer:
Validus.
The commonality would go something like this: Michelangelo depicted God in "The Creation of Adam"; Giffen depicted Darkseid, who created Validus.

These are some really interesting guesses. None of them correct, but nonetheless intelligent guesses for all that.
HWW's most recent post comes closest to following my thinking, but doesn't include my final one or two steps.
I'm being much more literal than you guys think I am. Your reasoning is much more abstract than I am being.
And the answer is *not* a human male. Nor is it any creation of Darkseid.

That's got to be it! I feel like Agent Kujan in "The Usual Suspects": the truth was right in front of us all along. Good puzzle, Matthew!

Going with the notion of "In thy image," the answer would have to be the planet Daxam, and his "tools" were the Daxamites...

OK, dovetailing off of Matthew's question, and using a similar example, complete this analogy:
Jesus:Lightning Lord::Judas:???

No, not Nemesis Kid, though from a character trait standpoint, that would have been pretty clever.

Neither Sun Emperor, Neutrax, nor Zymyr.
Hint: It's not so much the role of the individual that completes the analogy as the placement.

Nor Mist Master.
As with Matthew's E's original example, allow me to extend the analogy:
da Vinci:Giffen::Jesus:Lightning Lord::Judas:???
