No problem - my career plunged downwardly years ago. wink

Does anyone know if Weber was somebody in particular, or just a name taken at random? All I could turn up in a search was grills and carburetors - no statesmen or political philosophers.

Well, there is Max Weber (not to be confused with Max Webster ), but I think it's more likely that the name was just picked to sound good.

I always took the name as a total tribute to Max Weber and his work on bureaucracy. Weber's World was the bureaucratic center of the United Planets.

Can anyone verify the information Cosmic Teams posted about Echo?

Micro-Lad: The original or re-boot version (not the renamed Gim Allon)... anyone remember if he ever had a "real" name ?

Under Levitz/Giffen he was a wannabe' revolutionary and kidnapper-brainwasher. In reboot he was the guy who murdered a rival in competition for a space with the Legion. In either version, did he have any kind of backstory ?

Thanks.

Micro Lad was Lalo Muldron. Not familiar with his backstory in either version.

Regarding Echo, as posted at Cosmic Teams , they don't give much information, but that's how the story played out. He fought Cosmic Man one-on-one in that Adult Legion story. I don't think he was seen again.

Well, he was seen as a Legionnaire in that 5YL issue where Sun Boy's life flashed before his eyes. (Hero History)

And he was in the Superman/Batman story, and he's been in Lo3W.

Wow, I guess I already know about as much as I know. Thanks though.

I'd forgotten about the Superman/Batman. That 5YL appearance is a bit baffling, since Echo was a villain in the Adult Legion story, which I guess just emphasizes the fact that the Adult Legion stories were indeed imaginary. We get to take our pick whether Echo was a legionnaire, or a legionnaire turned villain, or maybe Sun Boy was just hallucinating.

Tell me what you know about transuits. I remember that they protect the wearer from the vacuum of space, but...

Do they work against inclement weather, too ? If you're wearing one when you fall into cold water, are you protected from hypothermia ?

Who invented the darn things ?

Etc.

I think his hero history, FC, said something about him being against the Khunds. Because they were the ones who fused that oxygen mask on his face, or something, and that's why he became a Legionnaire when he did.

My impression re: transuits (I'm not sure if there's a source to back this up) is that they are primarily designed to work in vacuums, but are fairly limited in general in regards to adverse atmospheric conditions. I'm pretty sure, for example, they won't protect from the extreme heat on Tharr. One would assume they would have to have at least some temperature regulation as part of their ordinary function, however, so they might protect you from an ordinary Earth snowstorm for at least some time.

Or a villain turned Legionnaire, like Blok. That's how I read it. Like, he was misguided and once separated from the LSV's influence he turned out to really be OK and eventually, a Legionnaire.

Many of the LSVers were retconned into being mind-controlled through the use of drugs 5YL.

He was a villain im the 60s Adult Legion, but a hero by late 80s/early 90s.

Therefore it was his time with the Bunnymen in the 80s that reformed him. wink

I believe its spelled out in detail in the LSH Mayfair Games Sourcebook (written by the Bierbaums), though there may be references to it in the text features on Mekt's rehabilitation as well (around #12 or so).

It was used to excuse a number of characters, like Spider Girl, Ron-Karr, and Saturn Queen from the more murderous aspects of the LSV's career.

Oh. Thanks. I was wondering. If they do indeed start a Legion comic after Lo3W, I wish we'd see more insight on BB and Echo. It's funny though. With Echo's mask looking like Ferro Lad's somewhat, you'd have thought the reboot writers were making a reference to him and BB with Ferro and Inferno's "relationship". But that's just me.

And I have another question. I've heard that FYL, the Dominators got hold of Wildfire's brother, Squire. It looked like they made him into their Wildfire, yet a Legion FAQ I read said his powers were "object animation". What's up with that?

Object Animation was Quislet's power. For a while, Quislet was tutoring Wildfire on the advantages of being an energy-being, so maybe for that time, Wildfire was able to do that as well, but certainly he didn't maintain that ability long-term.

Then did the Dominators manage to duplicate that ability for his brother? Or is that the closest I'm gonna get to an explanation?

Squire Burroughs was never adequately explained. Maybe it was one of those things the Bierbaums planned to but couldn't.

We can only presume the Dominators played some role. At that time, DC was big on making anyone who had meta-powers to have a gene that facilitates accessing powers; if you and I were both bitten by a radioactive Hyena, and you had the gene but I didn't, you might get powers but I'd get to die. That gene was the reason for the Dominators' attempted 20th C Invasion (see the big x-over of the same name circa 1990), and we saw in TMK Annual 2 the Dominators continuing to try to exploit that.

So if we assume that Drake had the gene, which is why he was transformed into Erg-1 rather than just being incinerated, then his bro could have ehad the gene too - and it would just be a matter of duplicating the experiment.

The whole premise relies on very cartoony ideas about genettics in the first place.. but it was an attempt to offer *some* explanation where there had been none (regarding why things that would kill you or I gave other people powers).

Ah. Thanks. I really wish the Bierbaums had more time to explain the rest of those plot threads. Maybe if we're lucky Geoff might...

As long as Garth is not Proty and there are no more Legion clones or else MARVEL'S GOT A NEW ERRAND BOY.
