And another hint: you might think the U.S. States of Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia might have to do with what these countries don't have in common, but, they really don't.

Close enough. More accurately, they are all countries that were formerly full members of the Commonwealth of Nations, though in Fiji's case, it's a suspension. Ireland and Zimbabwe have both officially resigned from the Commonwealth.

Airplane? What is it?

It's the correct answer to this Triad. But that's not important right now. You've got to supply the next three clues.

Laughton was Captain Bligh in Mutiny on the Bounty
Bakula was Captain Jonathan Archer on Star Trek: Enterprise.
Evans is the forthcoming Captain America.

After six months, I decided to have a look at this again. With some research, I see that these are three songs that are all based on the work of Mervyn Peake in his Gormenghast series.

Here's a new triad, if anyone is interested

Dinosaurs
Nazis
Shadow Demons

No, though I imagine they all show up there - but then so does just about every other DC character up to that point (except, weirdly, Hal Jordan). However, the answer does involve, in part, COIE (fairly obvious perhaps with the Shadow Demons there)
