OK, you reminded me of this one with Lincoln:

Mary Todd Lincoln
Jack Kerouac
Brian Wilson

All suffered break downs and were placed in asylums/mental hospitals?

Mmmmm... well... OK, close enough. Basically, they all suffered schizophenia. (I hedged a bit because I don't think Kerouac was ever institutionalized).

Next round to Quislet.

They were all first domesticated in ancient Egypt?

I don't know if they were all domesticated in ancient Egypt or not. Regardless, that is not the link I was going for.

You are digging too deep. This Triad was inspired by a Far Side cartoon. I'll give it one more day.

Exnihil, you were close enough with your first guess. All are animals that were introduced to North America.

technically not. The horse did exist in North America long, long ago but died out. The Spanish reintroduced, not introduced, the horse.

but I don't intend that to derail Exnihil's question.

The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

Perhaps it would help if you identified Walter Pratt. Is he the hockey player or someone else with that name?

Just a guess . . . all were or were suspected of being gay.

OK: Walter Pratt is DC comics character, the father of a superhero, but, also, more significantly, the son of one, as well.

Walter Pratt in that case would be son of Al Pratt (GA Atom) and father of Manhunter (Kate Spencer). I'm sure he has (or possibly had, I have a feeling he's dead) powers and murdered Kate's mother but I can't think of how he connects to the other two.

Ah, no, of course he's not. It was thought he was but he's actually the son of Iron Munro and Phantom Lady (Sandra Knight) but was adopted by the Pratts. Still no idea what the connection is though.

No, Shrinking Violet isn't an orphan. How about a top of the page recap? The Triad, again is:

Salu Digby
Pre-boot Jan Arrah
Walter Pratt

Significant facts revealed so far:

-"It's a family affair"

-Walter Pratt is a DC comics character, the son of Golden Age hero, "Iron" Munro.

-Shrinking Violet is not an orphan

-And a new clue: The reason that it's preboot Jan is that the postboot writers must not have read Superboy #211.

They all had a father named Arn.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!

Yeah, that's the commonality. Arn Digby first appeared in the "Dagon the Avenger" two-parter, Arn Arrah (later Tarn Arrah in the reboot) in a flashback in Superboy #211, and Arn "Iron" Munro in the "Young All-Stars".

Next round to HWW.
