Well, he would if asked, according to his interview in THE LEGION COMPANION.

As he is the guy who had Black Canary de-powered, I don't think I would want him as writer but I wouldn't mind him having a stint as co-plotter/artist.

And if Grell *did* return, would his 3 Legion co-creations-- DAWNSTAR, TYROC and Cosmic Boy's BUSTIER-- be far behind...?

One man's bustier is another man's nightmare....

But it would be interesting to see what Grell would do with the Legion years later. WOnder how his perspective might have changed. Any clues in the Companion interview?

There's a picture in the Legion Companion drawn by Grell in 2003 showing the Legion fighting the Fatal Five. It looks just like his work twenty-five years ago, only better.

I think that makes sense.

There's also several shots of what appear to be paintings by Grell of several of the gals-- Jeckie, Imra, Nura, Violet, and Grell's barely-there 70s costume for Night Girl... *hubba hubba!!*

{ Well, he would if asked [...] }

Geez, Lash LaRue, don't give me a heart attack like that!

I'm not sure he'd do better than Batista at storytelling, but I'd love to see his sexy take on the Legion again, especially the women.

I really disliked his "Iron Man" work -- I haven't seen his recent Legion stuff in the "Legion Companion", but I'll check it out (as soon as it comes in to my friggin' store already!!)

Thus far I count Grell, MINDY NEWELL, TERRY SHOEMAKER and of course Dave Cockrum & Steve Lightle have *already* returned. I liked that Dave mentioned his support thread on the DC Board.

Good Lord-- Shoemaker's art has gotten, like, GOOD good. I mean, REALLY GOOD good and based on what he submitted for the COMPANION he loves the reboot characters! Batista is good and all, but Shoemaker is better. And he WANTS the book...!!!

I'm really enjoying the COMPANION...

As I was reading the Companion, I was very interested to find so many of the creators say how they'd like to come back. The Legion is so LOVED!

I loved Grell's work on the Legion overall, but he should never have been allowed to redesign costumes. Just because Cockrum was a great costume designer, that doesn't mean every Legion artist is. I could never understand Grell's fixation with making the Legion virtually naked. Aside from Cosmic Boy, he removed the arms and legs from Cockrum's Colossal Boy costume, gave Projectra that "slit down the front all the way to the pubic region" suit. And of course Night Girl's piece of black dental floss. Karate Kid was spared nakedness, but suddenly got a foot shorter with giant gold lapels. Dawnstar is the only Grell-designed Legion costume I liked...

It would be great to see him come back, as an artist at least. Not sure about as a writer...

Cheryl Lad (BEST Legion-ish message board name EVER, by the way):

Actually, KK's gold lapel costume was a Cockrum creation, it appeared once then was gone until Grell brought it back (iirc, it debuted in the Duo Damsel story-- "War Between Nights & Days", I forget the issue # -- S/LSH 193 maybe?).

Projectra's costume was also a Cockrum creation (it debuted in S/LSH 199, iirc, maybe earlier).

I kinda liked Lydda's sexy cutaway costume.... and Rokk's bustier looks AWESOME on photomanipped models!

I have issue 199... so much for my memory, I guess. In my defense, it does seem like Grell drew the waistline of Jeckie's costume substantially *lower* than Cockrum did.

As for KK... issue #193 is one of the two Cockrum issues I don't have. Didn't Dave draw KK in his original costume in issue #201, or is my memory faulty again? Wonder why he designed a new costume and then reverted to the old one? And it WAS Grell who made KK a foot shorter, wasn't it? As for the gold lapel design, well I guess even Dave does not bat .1000 in the costume design field.

I'm pretty sure it was # 193, and yes Dave reverted it back to the traditional orange in # 201. I dunno why.

But Grell must have liked it!

Me, I kinda liked the orange. I liked the lapels with black undershirt too, but there's not enough heroes wearing orange in my opinion...

OVER MY DEAD BODY!

I hated Grell's Legion work! It was the pits! Especially following on the heels of Cockrum's awesome artwork.

Karate Kid's costume was awesome! It's my favorite Cockrum Legion costume, even ahead of Lightning Lad! C'mon people, he was fighting crime in his pyjamas before then.

I read somewhere online (I think) that he just didn't like it, so he went back to the original.

It's interesting to note that back when those new costumes were introduced a lot of Legion fans didn't like them. Then (as now) Legion fans are resistant to change.

We may now add KEITH GIFFEN and DAN JURGENS to STEVE LIGHTLE and DAVE COCKRUM as past Legion creators who have recently returned to the book.

So when's Grell & Shoemaker's turn?
