But they're hardly the only ones.
Hint: it relates to the state quarters of these states.

They all have something on their quarters relating to flight: North Carolina has the Wright Brothers, Ohio an astronaut and Florida a space shuttle.

Close enough - They all have flying machines. In addition to the astronaut, Ohio also has the Wright Brothers' first airplane.
Take it away, Rockhopper!

Actually, two have. Thanks Quis and CJ! I've had company this week, so I've been a bit scattered lately. A simple one: Adelie d'Urville Ferdinand Magellan Alexander von Humboldt

Did they all not complete the feat they are famous for?
I know Magellan didn't go around the world, having died on the journey.

That's not it.
This is just the kind of question you'd expect me to ask.

They all had penguin species named after them? I recognized Adelie d'Urville's first name as Rockhopper Lass' name.

That's it, Seth. I thought Rockhopper Lass' first name would be a giveaway.
The species in question are: Adelie Magellanic Humboldt

No, though the student society building at Montreal's McGill University is unofficially named after Shatner. Officially, though, it's the "University Center".

Chaim -- don't know if that would include Shatner? But that wasn't what I had in mind.
Hint: This was an event all three experienced, though at different times.

Yeah, I didn't know if it would include Shatner either, but I figured since it applied to two of them, it would be a decent guess.
Guess not.
