My kids and I have been playing "Clue" a lot lately, and part of my really wanted to say something like "An Ryd...in the study...with the candlestick". (I know she was the victim in this case though, but I kept hearing it in my head).

Saturn Woman. She was saved when Superman, using a giant shovel, scooped part of the rings of Saturn and made Earth a ringed planet as "a tribute". However, as Superman suspected, something about the rings made Saturn Queen become good and Saturn Queen used her powers to incapacitate the othervillians and thus saved Saturn Woman.

I have to say that when I first read the question, the only thing that popped into my mind was the idea that the Legionnaires drew lots to see who would die in Superman's place (the winner being the one who got to die) I was thinking Chameleon Boy or Saturn Girl. Then I was in a comic book shop and glanced through the Legion Showcase and there was the story.

And it was a good thing it was something in the rings as opposed to the atmosphere or the planet itself.


Now a question:

How did Shrinking Violet keep from revealing the secret of the Concentrator?

The justly famous Legion Annual #1. 'Monster in a Little Girl's Mind'. The story features some old Computo circuits being implanted in a very sick little girl to try to fix what ails her. Unfortunately, this brings Computo back to life. He possesses the girl and uses some remarkably ill-defined but powerful abilities to seal the Legionnaires in their HQ and cut them off from each other; it is implied that once he's finished off the Legion he'll conquer the world. So, throughout the story, the Legionnaires are all separated off in different groups fighting different manifestations of Computo. But one group of characters is actually in the operating room with Computo and the girl.
