the last few answers seem to be drifting farther from the question, so I'll repost:
What specifically do pre-Crisis Kal-El and pre-Zero Hour Tinya Wazzo have in common, family-wise?
to recap guesses relevant to families so far, two people have noted cousins, and one guessed ancestors in general.
The issue of cousins is in the right vicinity, but I'm looking for something more specific than that - lots of people have cousins. The correct answer would cver a situation that would exist no matter what time period any relevant family members found themselves in.
Hints thus far:
Kara Zor-El does not factor into the answer

and... at least 2 TV characters have had similar situations.
